Soulja Boy Credited On “Whip My Hair”

Believe it or not, Soulja Boy’s not completely off his rocker. Although he didn’t pen Willow Smith’s breakout hit, that honor goes to Jukebox, he does get interpolation credit for the opening line “Hop out the bed turn my swag on”. That’s right, a bad hair day only meant a SB payday.

  10. PPTheTruth says:

Ya credit for one line is showing that the music is no longer about the art form but about your lawyers(im guessing its some company that encompasses the law, publishing, marketing and whatever else needed) getting every last penny out of the music because they know that you havent created a sustainable brand and will be gone from anything on the side of making lots of $$$ in the next 5 years so they need to get what they can right now.. That used to be a form of flattery taking a line and inputting it in a song..

Same thing happens with “the verve” on the song they did and the rolling stones sued them for copyright something and basically ended the verve/the verve pipe’s career

However in almost the same type of deal Tom Petty and the heart breakers had no problem with dani california (by the red hot chili peppers) sounding so much like their last dance with mary jane.. Tomy petty has a great qoute to something of the extent why would i want to hinder great music? there song is their own take and its nice that a song we did so long ago can be revived in such a great way<== horrible job of paraphrasing anyways.. Tom Petty and the HB = something thats forever.. Soulja Boy and countless other acts that have come out form 2007 – on equal the new era of 1980's one hit wonders..(maybe three hits at the most.. that dance song he did .. "kiss me thru the phone" "turn my swag on" the rest arent hits and couldnt even get the demographic of thirteen year old female teens behind it.. )

So basically if your great music and know your timeless and arent full of yourselves(tomm petty and the HB) or not one of the biggest selling live show/records in the game(rolling stones) you won't sue for copyright infringement(cept for the rolling stones because they are so big the lawyers themselves wanted to get more money so they broutght forth the suit)
and if you are soulja boy you will want claim to your one line because you know you wont have many more for the rest of your life..

dont even get me started on vanilla ice and stings old band.. v ice just fucked up major on that one.

  36. justmyopinion says:

More proof contributing to a wack song like “whip you hair” (yeah i said it cuz no one in the industry will) is reason why he sold 13k-not that sales make the album-but Outkast said it “you only as funky as your last cut.” Soulja actually lasted shorter time than i gave him-i gave him 5 yrs-he lasted 3.
