’10 Disappointing Albums: #2 Gucci Mane The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted

It wasn’t supposed to be this way man. After being jailed before the release of 2009’s stellar The State vs. Radric Davis, Gucci Mane was supposed to further ascend to the top of the Southern rap game after his release last summer. Instead, this past fall, we got this uneven album that fell way short of expectations. Swizz Beatz’s golden touch was missing on the album’s lead single “Gucci Time”. A joint so sucky that Schoolly D shoulda sued. Although strange grooves like “Haterade” and “Weirdo” are admitted guilty pleasures, the LP was filled with far too many missteps like the cheesy, Ray-J-assisted “Remember When” and Wyclef’s god awful contribution, “ODog”. Is La Flare a menace to society? Time will tell. But it’s definitely clear that dude needs to get his life together before he can think of getting his career back on track.

  8. Belly says:

I was a big fan 06-09, 2010 was big let down, his career pretty much over with that 17 month bid coming up, shoulda never gave that nigga money cuz he cant handle it

  9. Crown says:

I’m sure many people didn’t have high hopes for album anyway so it didn’t disappoint me cause I knew it would suck.

oh my god Gucci album disappointing !??! lol you cant tell me you expected anything else…only kids with down syndrome were feelin his 1st album anyways because they can relate

  12. Mook says:

Nah RR y’all tripping “Remember When” was dope. The beat had that Noah “40” Shebib feel to it. I agree that this album should have been and could have been better…but I can’t blame Gucci…I blame the producers. State Vs. Radric Davis had big name producers taking their sound down south just for that album…on this album the big name producers just stick to their signature sound and in some cases work with guccis monotone…(see Neptunes produced “Haterade”) and in other cases fails (see Swizz Beatz produced “Gucci Time”) His lyrics have improved greatly on this cd…but it’s just a body of songs and not a album. Thats the biggest problem. Drumma Boy understands Guccis sound…and thats why songs like “What It’s Gonna Be” shine so easily with no effort.

  17. happy new year haters! says:

This album was also dissapointing. Every now and then I like to get stupid, back in the day it was triple 6 mafia, no limit albums, nore, camron, project pat, and the hot boys. Gucci was one of the few new artist where u didn’t have to pay attention to enjoy his music, his lyrics on the new album are on par with his other offerings, but his beats, adlibs, and hooks left a lot to be desired, thankfully wakka stepped up to deliever the kind of tom foolery gucci forgot to bring

  18. Sin says:

    ^^
    fuck u mean nigga
go listen to that hot boys guerrilla warfare dawg
if u dnt pay attention then u a sad excuse for a music fan. Put some headphones on

  20. Word says:

For an album to be disappointing, it would need to have high expectations right? That being said…this album was not very disappointing

  21. YUNG NATTY says:

Lets be honest gucci got lucky , if gucci was good he would have got on way back in the “so icey” days as the hiphop game was losing with less and less new blood , we got a lot of second and third string niggas coming to the forefront , gucci got lucky and if he has a brain in his head he will milk all the wealth he can and save , save, save , because there will be no long term career , no resurgence in 5 or 10 years what he and 1017 do now will be it .

whether he retires rich or dies broke and in jail by 40 is up to him.

  22. Yung Silv says:

gucci is not good im disappointed in anyone who expected anything from him
