This is good and bad. It’s good because of those numbers in 2011 are pretty impressive. It’s bad because when people buy the album they are going to be disappointed so when Lu finally decides to release a WORTHY follow up to The Cool then people aren’t going to buy b/c of the fail that LASERS is.

reaching a new level of popularity is exactly what “balance” needs in rap. lupe represents that, even with skylar rockin out and MDMA singin’ sloppy sappy hooks through and through. he’s reaching a new demographic. all the non lupe regular listeners are in love with this new shit. i think it’s funny, cuz it ain’t my favorite shit… but foreal my niggas.

Word, alot of people felt that way, but to me I never saw it. Outside of the Lauryn Hill jawn (where he’s talking about sending people from jail to Africa, among other things) the whole album was hard, WAY harder than Illmatic. It just wasn’t as “hip hop” as Illmatic, and people shitted on it, but to me it was always a better constructed album, more cohesive, & better lyrically (even though it’s all storytelling, but that was the shit at the time).
Now I ain’t saying Lasers is better than Lupe’s first two albums, but it’s not far off
