  1. Ice Cold says:

    Congrats lupe LASERS

  2. TVA says:

Question is will this embolden Atlantic to make him beholden to their ideas of what an album should be or will they take it as marketplace demanding Lupe product period…… Obviously it’s the former but one can hope

  3. Beezy says:

Wow! The first album that he DIDN’T like due to lack of creative control, yet the first album to make some serious noise on the charts…interesting. Maybe the folks over at Atlantic know how to make money.

  4. rahrahrah says:

    @TVA

The former? Did you mean the later?

  5. still best rite now!! says:

    @TVA

Good question…..but he still did go out & promote the album like he fully supported it, so idk?

  6. Dashing says:

This only makes the YN “You Played Yourself” even more hilarious…

But on another note, “Lasers” is by far his worst album. And Lupe would probably admit as much. And now appears to be the best selling…even at a time when record sales are worse than they were when he dropped the far superior “The Cool.”

The only thing longtime Lupe fans can hope is that he will take these newfound fans and make them embrace “his” sound on the next album, not Atlantic’s. If that means 1 or 2 poppy-dance tracks on the next album and the rest in the vein of “Daydreamin” “Kick Push” “Go-Go Gadget Flow” “Dumb it Down” “Little Weapon”and others, then that’s cool with me.

  7. Belize says:

Good for him. I didn’t care much for Lasers, but I respect his other work.

  8. DJ says:

Wasn’t his best album, but he deserves to finally get some respect.

  9. jeezy says:

HIS SHITTEST ALBUM SELLS THE MOST ..WTF .. VOTE WITH YOUR WALLETS …ATLANTIC WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH THIS SHIT MUSIC At this rate

granted .. lupe is dope but this album was ass ..compared to his previous attempts … they were much better … production makes all the differnce

  11. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

#1 album not bad at all Lupe. Atleast he aint lying about his past talkin about coke and drug selling Fantasies cough *officer ricky*

  12. wickwickwack says:

not his best album but …wonder who took the decision to hold the release of lasers this long …

  13. Dashing says:

^ Good music trumps bad music IMO and Teflon Don for all of it’s fake stories is a better album than Lasers.

  14. jimmy Dee says:

    Talk about bittersweet.

Congrats, Lu. Still a shit album.

  15. Thetruth says:

Lupe has always gotten respect. Having record sales doesn’t equal respect.

  16. seemoregan says:

Damn RR is corny with the hand claps.

  17. cain says:

Reakwons album Shaolin VS WuTang sold 29,148……. SMH

  18. Lupe Fan says:

MAN! this is crazy.. The industry is rigged.. I hope he makes music like “The Cool” next time around..

  20. Mam_G says:

Overall I give Lasers 4/5 I think people wanted to hear Food and liquor and the cool Lupe, I did also but once i got over it and really listen to Lasers its a pretty good album. So people stop hating. Lupe can’t stay underground forever.

  22. Lil Majer The Cartune says:

Sweet! Congrats Lupe! I’m proud to be part of its success! : )

  23. jeezy says:

Teflon don was a better album than this …

  24. naijon says:

I agree with every comment mentioned before my own. Lasers is full of “r&b-hook-heavy”, “radio friendly”, bubble gum RAP songs, that cater to the commercial pop market. Thus making it his most dissapointing album ever.

  25. Eskee says:

This is really a bad sign for Hip-Hop as a whole that this album sold this much, read my article on it http://bourgeoiscreme.com/blog/archives/1209

  26. Word says:

The album was decent enough for me. Hopefully, like the earlier commentor said, his new fans that were sucked in willl appreciate his OWN sound when the time comes, and not the sound of atlantic records. I’m kinda hoping thats what Em was planning too with the couple pop songs he had out, lure them in and then once they in they got no choice but to accept whatever else you put out.

  27. j says:

It was a radio album but the thing is we cant complain because they need to make money – cheesy radio tunes is where the money is nowadays.

Try being from the UK where we have to watch people like chipmunk make oopsie daisy radio songs when two years earlier he was talkin about guns and grindin. Also tinchy stryder and n dubz to name but a few. Especially when the Uk underground scene has some of the best artists i have ever heard – lyrically anyway – but they make no money which is what drives them into mainstream radio music.

Trust me Lupes album is at least 10 times as good as the crap that the UKs so called ‘hip hop/rap’ scene is producing at the moment.

  28. blv says:

no more alex the kid joints.. everybodys after that Will I Am money. fuck rap-pop.

  29. blv says:

Just the worst : Dr Dre – I need a doctor, Eminem – Love the way you lie, Bob – Airplanes, Everything started with Lollipop and Live your liife. And real hiphop doesnt sell records anymore.. Look at the last clipse album, teflon don and Raekwons new album.. PLEASE Jim jonsin and Alex da kid.. Stay away from Carter 4

  30. FUCK ATLANTIC says:

i hope atlantic knows that the reason it sold was cause of lupe not cause the album was pop…..it prolly would have sold more if they didnt fuck with it. how hell do u fuck with a albun that people been waiting for three years…….Congrats lupe not atlantic

  31. Donn says:

    CONTROVERSARY SELLS…

  32. FIVER says:

    Sweet justice..

  33. your pusha says:

well done lupe! it doesnt matter how the album sounds we made it to the top, now you got their attention, give them that raw super intelligent rap that we loved in the first place next time round, even if it goes over their heads.

  34. pienman says:

i am a diehard lupe fan…the ablum wasn’t his best at all! at least 4 songs go hard! but i am happy for dude none the least, i hope the record heads are happy cuz he had to complete sell out to make numbers that are grown to the fans petition to help out the ablum to come sooner and get this commercial success yet a fan disappointment

  35. ptone814 says:

    LUPE!

apologize 4 dumbing it, but look what has become of it, “all black everything” some old white southern woman humming it, took gaza strip’s politics and put them #1 & shit, took the myth that concious dont equal commercial and mothafuckin pummeled it!

    lupe the goat!

IM GLAD TO GET MORE MUSIC FROM HIM! POP OR NOT POP GLAD TO GET NEW MATERIAL TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION….HELL I’D BUY IT EVEN IF ITS IN GREEK

This album is hot cheesy hook filled garbage. People bought this because they are looking for something new besides the usual gun-toting killer drug rap that gets soooo much airplay. Enemy of the state Mixtape was epic too.

    However,

This is some fake ass B.O.B. dumbed down trash. Do not buy this record. i and tried to listen to it twice. i couldn’t it hurt my eardrum.
