    @ Pat foh & kill yourself

  3. CabriniGreeny says:

    Created the blueprint for the modern “M.C.” In a class all by himself. Classic & timeless. Your favorite rapper favorite rapper. Lastly, he was only 17/18 when he created the Paid In Full LP. Nuff said.

  4. RapCritic says:

    @ Pat your dumb Bitch to think that Emeniem is a better rapper than Rakim. You should never listen to music again. Rakim G.O.A.T. This is real hip hop. Im raps new critic https://twitter.com/#!/SlaughterJW

  5. MR RD says:

    Rakim started rapping how everyone raps now when no one was. The best will always change but the originator never does.

  6. sonar says:

  7. sonar says:

    i was directing my previous comment to Pat

    GOOD JOB U OLD GOOFBALL!!!!

    …..SALUTE TO RAKIM ALLAH!!!! THE DEFINITION OF HIP-HOP!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  11. Soul_Assasin says:

    I wouldn’t say his skills crafted the modern mc, cause the modern MC’s aint and will never be the level he is. of course with the exception of talib, black thought, nas, common, etc…

  12. Jonathan says:

    how can people say that Eminem better than Rakim?
    Rakim is the original G.O.A.T and always will be, and plus his internal rhyming flow is way better than Em’s

  13. Donn says:

    I’ve never listened to Rakim. He’s before my time but listening to this is helpful to the new generation of listeners like myself. Good shit RR

  14. DG says:

    Rakim is Top 5 Dead or Alive no matter what cuz the other 4 wouldn’t even be on the list if it wasn’t for Rakim. Btw this playlist is definitely missing some classics, Put Your Hands Together, The Punisher, The R, Guess Who’s Back and the bonus cut should be U.B.R. by Nas

  15. haq says:

    Bow down in the face of Greatness

  16. Jordan says:

    What about “No Competition” or “It’s Been A Long Time” & no unreleased joints like “I Get Visual”

  17. bbe4eva says:

  24. sway-z says:

    Fuck that, in 2011 it’s time to build!!! Where you at Ra?

  25. Mr.November says:

    Eminem is definitely a better rapper than Rakim, but even Eminem said that he was one of the MCs he studied to become better. Rakim is one of Em’s influences, so no one needs to spread the hate talk. Chill.

  26. a2z says:

    @Donn & @Word thats whats up. new heads taking time to know their history and respect the classics. thats what hip hop’s all about.

  27. jobu says:

    remember youngin’s when someone comes AFTER another — the first one is the root – the second is the tree. Cut the tree it re- grows for the root is undistrubed. The Golden era and RAKIM was the GOD MC of that era if you didn’t live during that time you will never know

  28. Pat says:

    Smh at the disrespect for Em. Fuck Rakoon or whatever his name is, Em is GOAT.

  29. Soul_Assasin says:

    @jobu nicely put!

    And to all of you saying em is better than rakim, I know your saying it just for the attention. Here’s a prime example of why rakim is the greatest; I take seven MC’s put em in a line, take seven more brothers who think they could rhyme, put seven more before I go for mine. That’s 21 MC’s ate up at the same time.

  30. puerto-black says:

    the man

  31. Devastation Inc. says:

    Anytime Nas makes a song about you, and
    your life. You are the the G.O.A.T. One of
    the few Mcees no one came after with a
    diss song. Because they didn’t want to be one
    of those seven Mcees.

  32. Soul_Assasin says:

    @devastation Inc
    Well EPMD did throw a few jabs, I wouldn’t of known if I didn’t hear Nas “UBR.” And I remember reading on the source that a misunderstanding from a Big Daddy Kane song spark Rakim to throw a few jabs at bdk. Nothing big follow, but shit can’t you believe how epic it would of been if rakim and bdk went at it?!

  33. Devastation Inc. says:

    @soul assasin thanks for the info. You are right
    it would have been epic. Now that you mention
    it I remember Freddie Fox taking some shots.

  34. Pauly Dee says:

    Pat is definately either white, a hipster, or an Eminem stan. I mean, I think Em is the best rapper alive in the mainstream but is he better than Rakim, the father of this shit?! That’s heavily debatable.

  35. Bronx, NY says:

    DAMN… Rapradar. Salute for the trip through memory lane… I grew up on the GOD eMcee. I remember when “I Know You Got Soul” dropped. It was non-stop on the radio all spring and summer. they remade it several times too. One was called ” I drink Ol Gold”. Cabn’t remember the others.

  36. Bronx, NY says:

    When I was in Junior HS.. we used to argue over who would eat who. Kane or Rakim lol. Kane was at his prime and so was Rakim. Kane was more smooth and for the ladies while Rakimg was straight street. Rakim would of murked kane in my opinion but it would have been a good battle.

  37. Word says:

    @Soul_Assassin

    Was that “21 MCs ate up at the same time” line a Rakim one? Cuz Em said a line just like that on the song “Im Back” so I guess thats where he got the idea from.

    I take 7 seven kids from Columbine stand ’em all in line, add a AK-47, a Revolver, a Nine. A Mac-11 and it oughta solve the problem of mine and that’s a whole school of bullies shot up all at one time

    Ohhhh, man at least now I see the influence. Thats some crazy shit, both lines. Em and Rakim need to do a song together. Rakim was on the 8mile soundtrack. I thought that was a hint

  38. ben says:

    If you make a top list of MCs and don’t include Rakim go hang ya self.

  39. Soul_Assasin says:

    @Word
    Yeah the 21 MC’s verse was from Eric B. & Rakim “My melody” off the paid in full album. The source ranked it #1 when they did there 100 greatest Lyrics back in 03 or 04 don’t rememer. Em praise Rakim and other hip hop legends when he received a grammy. Em could of done a song with Rakim, cause Rakim sign to aftermath in the early oo’s. Only three songs he ever recorded under aftermath, damm shame…
