I like seeing an Unsung like this where it doesn’t end with drugs or death. Glad to see he’s still doing it and that stuff he’s doing with the live band sounds pretty dope

  5. Shawn says:

Good look for Kane, who’s Career just took a “natural” course.
Really wish they’d asked “Playgirl!!? Son, what was you thinking”

A lot of those artists from those days dont have a happy ending. Case In Point: Alexander O’ Neal

  7. 1975 says:

I saw him perform as a shortie in Randall Island Park NYC in 1988. Linden Day Camp surprised us some of us ran to the stage and the camp counselors had to get us. Memory Lane LOL

DON’T DISAGREE WITH MY OPINION OR ELSE YOU’RE NICK CANNON AND/OR STEVE HARVEY

  9. Wolverine says:

When GZA and Big Daddy Kane were signed to Cold Chillin Records, GZA ghostwrote Big Daddy Kane’s lyrics. This is why he is never mentioned when I think about great MC’s.

  10. easternparkway says:

Wolverine—I’ve never heard that, doubt it highly. Are you talking about his early work? BDK’s style is too unique. Either Rza wrote all of them or none of them…..

    yes, REAL RAP!!!!

  14. THE AUTHENTIC NICKEY BLACK says:

I always told ppl that the strong usage of RnB hurt Kane in the long run, plus he stop messing with Marley Marl and then Marley put LL back on the map with MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT.

Kane is still top 5. Ra and Kane took pop shots at each other but they didn’t discuss that. That would have been the ultimate and most explosive battle in hip hop history. But like they said “ppl didn’t call out Kane cuz they knew.”

Plus giving Jay platform was a good idea from Kane. Kane saw the future in that slim kid from Marcy.

Shout out to Word and James. They probably gonna pop up with that hate, but if not, F it!

  15. THE AUTHENTIC NICKEY BLACK says:

Yeah Storm…, oops I mean Wolverine is looking for attention and I guess that BS worked.

  16. DMJ says:

Great to see this posted. A lot of “hip hop fans” need a history lesson! Kane was a true pioneer and this showcases a time when it was cool to just rhyme and do you! Now everybody wants to be gangster or wants to be the next drake! Never mind the fans todays rappers need the lesson BE ORIGINAL!

  17. Wolverine says:

i don,t understand what is has really become of these industry peope these days ….here we have a very good rapper that fell off due to the lack of all of the foolishness that half these people are putting out these days when half of them can even rythmn to save there life…it,s like know1 wants to try and hear good music these dayz…this man is legendry and people need to stop sleeping on his music…nuff said thou..

  23. sg says:

wolverine…. what you on son, dope or dog food?

  24. MISTAKES: 1. Kane did not write ” roxanne’s revenge”. Biz & Kane was not in juice crew in ’84. SHAN co-wrote that song. 2. ” Raw ” came out b4 “Symphony”. 3. “Smooth Operator” came out b4 ” I Get Job Done “. 4. NO MARLEY MARL??? (didn’t even say his name!) 5. NO MR MAGIC (r.i.p.) how u gonna say JUICE CREW ALLSTARS & not say magic & marley??? No rap attack (wbls) no mention of “mr magic” song??? I’m from DETROIT & i know all this! Where’s the REAL HIP HOP HISTORIANS??? Good effort but it was WACK!!!

  25. […] And if numbers aren’t your thing: Billboard did an interesting interview with legend Rick Rubin, while TV One did an Unsung segment on another legend, Big Daddy Kane. […]

  26. bjack says:

@DJ King David: Good Comments. I’d like to see someone at TVOne answer that.

As for me, I’m just wondering why Hov couldn’t take 5 minutes to say a lil something?
