R.I.P. Nick Ashford

Nick Ashford, one half of the legendary songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson, succumbed to throat cancer yesterday in New York Hospital. He was 69.
Along with wife Valerie Simpson, the tandem penned several classics including “Solid” , “You’re All I Need (To Get By)”, and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. In connection to hip-hop, their music has been sampled and covered by several artists including MC Lyte, 50 Cent and most famously, Method Man. Nick is survived by his wife and two daughters.

I was just thinking about them too. Just over the weekend, wondering where they been. Such a sad day in music !! It’s so fucked that music fans take artists for granted, not knowing where the music they love (Hip Hop) came from. Where these emcees got their inspiration from. But songs such as the ones these 2 made are classic and soulful. I dont listen to much r and b music today either but Im definitely not ignorant to those pioneers of the genre. Nah @TCD, not talking to u just in general we tend to pay respect to artist only when they’re dead, real artist not that gimmick shit. Especially in Hip-Hop, like now R/S calling EM king of Hip-Hop that shit right there is powerful it’s history repeating itself, just like calling Elvis the King of Rock. my favorite song from them is Is it still good to you. i cant wait for somebody to chop that one up. rip to nick ashford. i was just watching their SNL performance from the 70’s and they was jammin. it was like they was making love while they was sanging. definition of true love.
