IMO the people that like this album and think its a classic are the same people that are bumping that Tony Montana song by “Future”…
J.Cole has been reaching with these two singles….they just aren’t captivating enough nor do they embody his true sound. This is how a debut can lose steam bc of the constant delays, and the label autonomy over new artist….In the morning was the perfect lead single…they said it wouldn’t make the album and now 10 months later it makes the final tracklisting….Im quite aware of diasporas into broader fan base but a debut should reach out to your true fans and not the chart chasing mechanism. As for the missy ft im confident it will be solid she is a legend and immensely creative…I will support the album bc im a fan however a classic means not skipping a track and work out & can’t get enough are very forgettable
