Hip-Hop Reacts To Troy Davis Execution

Wednesday, September 21 2011 11:45 PM EST | Posted by: Big Homie | Posted in: Blog, True Story

Troy Davis was officially pronounced dead at 11:08 pm EST in the State of Georgia. Earlier this evening, Davis’ execution was delayed due to a request for a stay, but it was denied by the Supreme Court hours later.

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering an off-duty police officer in 1989, but witnesses have recanted their testimonies over the years. Recently, thousands across the nation protested and petitioned to prevent today’s execution.

Whether they were for or against the decision, the Hip-Hop community took to Twitter to react on today’s events.

Black people rally around the wrong shit. This shit was completely random. I didn’t follow it.

Stop marching and actually do something.

Who the fuck is Troy Davis and why do I care if he lives or dies?

    Only children are innocent.

Everything’s foul except the kids (c)

    Sheeple are random.

How about you stop bitching and go to law school? The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 played a large part in this case. But no one is attacking the case on a legal front, just holding signs and signing petitions. No one knew if he was innocent, they just wanted him to have the right to appeal…again. After he was convicted of a previous shooting the court showed no leniency. Most rappers don’t do shit to change the social consciousness of the people, so should probably stfu. This is what happens when you’re dumbing down the public not paying attention. Most of you people have no fucking idea what you’re talking about.

The evidence was overwhelmingly against Troy Davis. He was convicted by a mostly black jury. 7 of 34 people changed their testimony years later, 2 of which changed the story in a way that would change the verdict, the defense were not willing to put those 2 on the stand (most likely for good reason). I honestly believe he was guilty of the murder however the death penalty accomplishes absolutely nothing and he should be in prison not laying dead today.

Clown was a murderer no matter what way you look at it, he deserved death.

  10. Warren Buffet says:

The hard truth is that this man was found guilty and justly executed. Blacks always make things a racial issue and never accept responsibility for their actions and im sick of it. I don’t hear any blacks standing up for that officers family? his kids lost their father, his wife lost a husband? Everytime something happends its not racial. NEWSFLASH COLORED PEOPLE!!!! You behaive in a fashion that is unappealing, don’t expect others to have oppinions. All blacks care about in money, fat asses, and jordans. thats the extent of a blackmans world. He wears his pants below his ass, he glorifies violence and guns in the “hood”, just listen to rap music, or watch their videos. He degrades all woman, even his own black woman, he is proud to have been incarcerated like its a badge of honor. Shall i continue? So the next time an event occurs, please look in the mirror black people and ask yourselves, AM I PUTTING OUT THIS NEGATIVE ENERGY THAT PAINTS ME IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT”? Its always easy to blame racism when you refuse to accept responsibility. Which is why I expect a lot of hate after my comment. The hate will be because you prolly do not have enough intillect to have an respectfull debate about this issue. so…let the hate begin…

I love how so many people are responding to this with things like ‘Take down the government’ or ‘Kill all white people.’ Yeah, that really helps Davis seem innocent. Reading these comments just makes me think that he, too, subscribed to those thoughts. I mean, listen to the majority of rap songs these days. It’s all about bling, drugs and cop killing. You want people to believe that Davis wasn’t guilty? Tell African-American rap artists to stop writing lyrics about stuff like that. Convince your brothers and sisters to stop acting like fools. That’s the only way anything is going to change. You’re treating this man like a martyr and calling for blood, yet Martin Luther King Jr. (RIP) was a true martyr for your cause, and he simply wanted to live in a world where everyone could get along. That’s not going to happen when you have people like the ones I’ve seen in these comments running around. You can blame the police or the government or whatever you want for your failures, but the truth is, it’s all you. You don’t want to try to make anything of your life, so you resort to crime and need a convenient scapegoat in the form of the ‘race card.’ Take a look at your lives and ask yourself who is really to blame for things like this.
