Nas Covers XXL

Commemorating 20 years in the game, Nas returns on the cover of XXL. Issue hits newsstands on October 25, but peep an excerpt between he and guest interviewer, Tyler, The Creator. Cover designed by Mister Cartoon.

“God’s Son is my favorite album by you,” Tyler said. “And my second is probably Street’s Disciple,” he continued.

“Get the fuck outta here,” Nas responded.

Awkward and quirky exchanges aside, the discussion quickly picked up with the 20-year-old Tyler asking Nas for advice.

“You, Em, Jay, Snoop, like, you guys all started when you was exactly my age,” Tyler said. “The fact that you guys are still here makes me just always think, like, Fuck, could I?”

“Oh, you definitely can,” Nas replied. “Someone like you is, you’re interesting, for a lot of reasons. So someone like you, you can’t wait to see what’s next.”

    * IS NOT A BITCH!

    YOU CAN’T STOP US NOW!

  13. Social Elite says:

    Not everyone has to praise Illmatic as being Nas’ best album. Maybe Tyler genuinely liked God’s Son and Street Disciple. Maybe Nas was surprised because every one wants to limit Nas’ greatness to just Illmatic as if his life/career has not evolved from being in QB! Nas has embraced all the new dudes because he humble.

  14. Gitty says:

    Finally, i like the vibe of that~ Hip Hop wit meaning,… choke these other Artist with their tongue, after we stretch it and cut it out #NoGravity

  15. COLD DE/TH says:

  19. Grey says:

    Streets Disciple is so underrated to me..def one of Nas’ best albums. Dude has countless classics that are overlooked. Nas, true king. 20 years in the game…this guy is timeless. Fuck swag rap, I could care less about the latest watch or car out..that shit means nothing. Give me substance!

  20. Word says:

    Cosign @Social Elite. The key word Tyler used was FAVORITE. You guys know what that means right? People say Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint is Jays BEST work, but what if my FAVORITE is Black Album? Or BP3? Yall gonna get mad at me cuz those are my personal favorites? Dont go in on Tyler just cuz his favorties werent ILLmatic. Hes not saying that album wasnt great, he just saying it wasnt his favorite one. Also, Nas isnt just illmatic. Im starting to think you guys just dickride iLLmatic cuz the magazines told you it was the best album ever.

  21. wow says:

    Street’s Desciple is a dope album. No doubts about that at all.

  22. True says:

    Suicide bounce brotha!

  23. Jonathan says:

    God’s Son was a great album, and so was Street’s Disciple… Besides wasnt Tyler 2 years old when Illmatic came out? If anything, its good to see artists like Tyler knowing that Illmatic wasnt the only best album he made

  24. Citylivin' says:

    Stillmatic and It Was Written are my favorites.

  25. Social Elite says:

    @The King
    KRS1-lyrics to tribute song to Nas
    “Nas, you will nit lose. Your contribution to hip hop makes you the top two and with KRS1 we’re the top two. Nas you are hip op for real.”-KRS1

    Wu-Tang Clan made Nas an honorary member. Nas was the first non Wu-Tang Clan affiliated emcee to appear in a Wu-Tang Clan album. That is how much an influence Nas was on the Wu-Tang Clan.

    Rakim from what seems to be the story…nevermind lol.

    [email protected] enjoyed God’s Son, Stillmatic and Untitled, as well as List Tapes from Nas’ catalogue

  36. BRu973 says:

    Wow…God’s Son as his #1 & SD as his #2…WTF is wrong with your ears kid?? Neither 1 of those of albums are in his top 5…Both of those albums are the decline of Nas in terms of his album production! Go back & listen to both of those albums in comparison to the previous work he did. These New Niggas mannnnnnnnnn are the worst

  37. Damn..20 years in the game is pretty incredible. Wish he was on the cypher last night. Still wondering when that next album is coming out???

  38. sway-z says:

    Niggas kill me acting like Illmatic has to be your favorite Nas album, or album period. It’s all about taste & preference. I always felt like It was written was his best album
