John Lennon fans cried bloody murder following Cee-Lo’s cover of “Imagine” on New Year’s Eve. Cee-Lo responded via Twitter to the outrage, but later deleted his tweets.

Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that’s all.”

Man… I wish he sung the Lennon song “Working Class Hero” instead…. John called it his “Non-politically correct version of Imagine” … in it he says — “You think you’re so clever and classless and free, but you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see”…

  2. thomas says:

“They torture and scare you for 20-odd years, then they expect you to pick a career” ~JL ‘Working Class Hero’ … John was the ill lyricist

  3. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

John Lennon is a Music Legend. Im sure Cee-Lo has a good reason why he did what he did.

1st question: Who is John Lenmon? John Legend copycat?

2nd question: Why is Cee-Lo relevant? His debut album ‘The Lady Killer’ was a funk album. I don’t get why hip hop fans like him.

  6. Attack The French says:

By changing that lyric, it kinda evidences that he didn’t understand the song. “Imagine” was a song pointing fingers at religion, materialism, and nationalism as the causes of civil unrest. By changing those words, he took it from absolute zero (“no religion too”) to an absolute maximum (“all religion is true”), which props up religion after half a verse spent spitting at it. I’m a Cee-Lo fan, but c’mon man. If a song is in contention for “greatest song of all time”, don’t fucking change it.

And for the sake of everybody, could we please be smart enough not to feed the Troll above me?

  8. Lu says:

@Megaman, I am not a Cee-Lo fan but even I know, that he came from the groupie Goodie Mob. A HIP HOP group. He used to rap. So that’s why HIP HOP fans like him.

  9. get bucks says:

    @Lu

Don’t explain things to idiots, it’ll just make you tired…

  10. Shaaaady says:

Cee-Lo can get away with this. People have nothing better to do than to complain about a godamn song

  11. Sarcastic A$$hole says:

Artist need to understand that some songs are better not touching or “remaking,” when you cover a masterpiece like imagine and change the words a little, you best believe you going to piss off Beattles/Lennon fans.

  12. illuminati life.
    Cee-Lo is a slave.
The elite changed the lyrics not Cee-Lo

  13. Kemosabi says:

Give the man a break. In hindsight I’m sure he knows it was a mistake but it isn’t as if he started a crump contest during the song. Lennon should be off limits to everyone in this pop generation anyways.

  14. the void says:

shows cee los lack of respect and knowledge of music and a music icon. fuckin fat idiot.

  15. the void says:

why is he wearing a sith lord robe?

I cant believe Mega Man asked if John Lennon was a John Legend copy cat!!! WTF are you 10 yrs old?? There is this search engine called Google. USE IT, next time before commenting!!

  18. tony1 says:

So what didnt John Lennon and the Beatles copy Chuck berry. Do ya thing Cee lo Green!

  19. GETACLUE says:

Yes I take it the @Megaman has to be insanely young, and or come from an environment to where he isn’t exposed to a multicultural platform….No Disrespect. Not to mention that Cee-lo’s last album with Goodie Mob was 1998. The sad truth is that outside of “CRAZY” and “F@#K You” mainstream America knows nothing about Cee-Lo Green. Mega Man I tell you what, go and pick up these three items “Soul Food” and “Still Standing” by Goodie Mob and “Git Up, Git Out” OutKast featuring Goodie Mob from Outkast’s “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” album and then you will understand. PEACE
