Rap Radar Interviews DJ Kay Slay Pt. 2

“You’re Kay Slay, the fee’s waived”

Remember when DJs broke artists? Well, Kay Slay does. And during his reign as mixtape king, he “contributed strongly to the success” of artists like T.I., 50 Cent, and Papoose, who secured a million dollar record deal. His word held so much weight, that even Eminem contributed a pair of tracks for free, including this freestyle. In part two of our interview, Slay speaks on breaking new talent, Em, and his conflict with Jay-Z.

    “Remember when DJ’s broke artists?”

i’ve been saying they’re no longer relevant, sad to say. Its messed up because Kay Slay put in his work and is real serious about putting artist on that grind before they get that shine. The other 99 DJs just spin records in their basement all day.

  8. sway-z says:

I respect Slay, but he always comes off like a nigga that feels himself a little too much. No doubt, he was looking out for those niggas, but they also helped blow him up on the DJ tip, especially 50 & Dipset. Cuz a lot of niggas only started checking for Kay Slay because of Dipset & 50, not the other way around, at least outside of NY
