This aint to start a flame war with anyone, but if one is an artist and wants to be a business man as well in this industry, especially the spearheading of a label wouldn’t it be wise that you as the boss sign artist under you who are hotter then you? And if not hotter at least have the potential to be hotter and more successful then you?
You can’t be an artist for ever, so it’s in your and the company’s best interest to find other talent that has the capability and potential to be greater or hotter then yourself.
A good teacher will make decent students out of his pupils, but they may never exceed their teacher. A great teacher aims to have his pupils be better then the teacher himself.
I’m not saying Ross is a great teacher or a good teacher, just saying that from the outside looking in, seems like he made wise decisions in signing both Wale and Meek.
