  1. tbd1983 says:

Jay’s a great lyricist, but needs to keep it short & concise when he’s having/doing an interview. Could’ve said I don’t get into politics because these officials running have their own personal agendas, rather than serving the needs of the people

  2. Brahsef says:

I think Jay can do whatever he wants at this point.

  3. J says:

    Obama- great speaker, terrible leader

  4. Peekay says:

agree with Hov. Nothing can ever get done b/c of bickering. Noone wants to put the country ahead b/c they want credit. Everyone’s so goddamn selfish.

  5. slick says:

he basically said he rides with barack cause he’s black. that aint no illuminatti answer yo, that’s some hood shit

  6. Rozay says:

He supports Obama and threw a small subliminal shot at him at the same time, I think he felt some kind of way about the way Beyonce was looking at Barack because, he couldn’t give an educated reason why he supports the man publicly, you would think someone of Jay’s stature would do that when a microphone and a camera is on him, saying he is supporting Obama basically because he’s black is cool behind closed doors around other black people is cool but not in front of the camera, the man just attended your fund raiser for him.

  7. Dashing says:

I’m an Obama supporter and a Jay-z fan, but Jay just sounded real ignorant right there.

If he really wants less government wouldn’t he support the Republican candidate? They support less taxes on the wealthy, fewer regulations, less government involvement. And they don’t understand Occupy Wall Street either.

And then to follow it up to say that he “gotta respect a man who is the first black President ever” without explaining what(besides him being black) he supports just comes off as uninformed.

And it’s even more troubling considering that he just threw a fundraiser for him that raised $4 million and has vocally backed him now 2 times.

How about “I support Obama because he wants to improve the educational system. He wants to invest in the future. He’s given poor minorities a shot by reducing interest rates on college loans. He’s getting healthcare for all Americans.”

Nope. Because he’s black. And I “gotta” support that vision. The vision of being black? C’mon son. He can articulate better than that.

  8. Sirius, the Dogstar says:

^…Very well said..I understand your viewpoint..It does come off as misinformed…The veil behind this election will be revealed, soon..Whether your “Republican” or “Democrat”…you’ll soon know what that truly means..Yin and Yang my friends…Yin and Yang

  9. Carlito D says:

Hey at least Jay was being honest. During the Obama’s first run for president they said the Black votes went up about 42% compare to any other elections. I’m pretty sure that most of Black Voters felt just like Jay. I’m not saying that it was right for people like myself, Jay and others to had gotten all caught up with the hype that we needed to support Obama in to becoming the first black president ever. But keep in mind rather if Obama was White, he was still the “less of the two evils” back then and once again he’s the “less of the two evils” now. Funny I’m even hearing people saying ” they do agree that Obama is slightly better than Romney but I’m a Republican so by default I’m still voting for Romney”. That’s how crazy politics can be.

  10. M.T says:

that was a good honest answer and its true to a great extent.

  11. RR Cool J says:

Wow tbd1983, you literally took my comment. Hov is the best rapper ever and a great businessman, cool guy and all of that, but his interviews always lack. He comes off borderline nervous.

Maybe it’s the hustler in him that doesn’t wanna reveal what’s truly on his mind (Think his line in “A Million One Questions” when he said, “how bad you wanna know?”).

You hear a Pac interview and he grabs you for the whole time he’s talking and you walk away feeling like he made point, right or wrong. With Hov it’s like, huh?

  12. Sarcastic A$$hole says:

Didn’t Hov learn anything from the wire? Get your Stringer Bell ass out of politics!

  13. @ Dashing says:

He said that he supports his vision, and continued to say the first black president ever with that vision.
I think most people know what Obama’s vision is, at least the democrats.
He’s not supporting him cause he’s a black president, he obviously didn’t fuck with Cain or the black people running before Obama. He supports him cause what he stands for as a black man.

And less government, he’s obviously not talking about less taxes. But probably less (but better) regulation and less government involvement unless it’s needed, like being a lender of last resort to the major financial institutions. Which a lot of democrats agree on as well.
Basically what he’s saying is that he doesn’t fuck with all the fuckery going on with the house of reps, which happens to be run by the republicans but I don’t think he fucks with the dems either.

  14. mitch says:

shout out Hov for keepin it 100 and saying he supports Obama simply cause a black man got in office. and not sugar coating it.. plus he respects obamas overral vision. thats respect from a 42 year black man who grew up in crack infested era. Cant hate on that. Dont even try to hate. Its pointless.

  15. I Tell It says:

he frontin. Jay will run for mayor of Brooklyn before its all done and over with. trust me on that. He has political ambitions. Prez Obama is gonna be a nice little contact to have when that time comes.

  16. Dashing says:

    @ @Dashing,

Well, put. But that’s not what he said. If he said what you said I’d have no problem. But he didn’t.

You’re ascribing what you WANT out of what he said. He made no reference to the bailouts or better regulation. All he said was “less government” which is a phrase that has been the staple of the Republican party for decades and that is synonymous with less regulations, less taxes, cutting spending, cutting federal programs (many of which help the poor and minorities) etc. So if we’re going to guess what he meant it makes more sense to base it in a historical context than pulling it out of thin air. Democrats do not support less government, period.

And all that’s beside the point, granting that what you’re saying is true…if that’s what he meant he should have said it. He didn’t look like he knew a damn thing.

  17. jahsings says:

I totally agree with your comments Dashing. Each of Jay Z’ talking points contradict themsevles. Jay is supporting a democrat but not the ideology. Jay supports a president who is trying to lead the country into a “color blind” society and Jay says he supports Obama because he is black.

As Jay Z attracts even more spot light as a result of his philanthropic and political fundraising work, I think it would be so wise for Jay to get some media training on public speaking. I watched Jay twice participate on two interviews with Warren Buffet and Charlie Rose and I was so emabarrassed.

Really all Jay Z has to do is think about what he wants to say and make sure the message adds up. Then again, it is difficult for Jay to make coherent points outside the universe he is conversant in. That is why he needs media training so that when a reporter abruptly ask questions relating to politics he will be prepared with polished answers.

  18. Dashing says:

    @jahsings,

^ Word. As hip hop becomes bigger and bigger and it’s stars have a bigger platform to speak, it’s important that the ambassadors know what they’re talking about when they discuss issues outside of hip hop.Sadly, I’ve been embarrassed hearing a few of these folks when they touch these issues.

Mos Def, Lupe Fiaso, Jay-z, Cam’ron, and Kendrick Lamar have all made comments on politixs that have made me cringe.

Surprisingly, Nelly and T.I offered some of the most thoughtful perspectives on a lot of issues and represented the culture better than some of the so-called conscious rappers.

And of course we still have Dead Prez and KRS1.

Cats, just need to smarten up or shut up.

  19. Witmo says:

IF HE WANTS LESS GOVERNMENT WHY ISNT HE SUPPORTING THE GOP. FAT CONTRADICTION. OBAMA WANTS TO BE YOUR; boss, pimp, daddy, baby sitter, and debt collector. Even Jay said “I tried to teach niggas how to be kings but all they wanna be is soldiers” its terribly sad that the world acts like it wants to do away with racism but yet we uphold it everyday. shame on jay for only supporting obama cuz hes black.

  20. Leanin' says:

@jahsings and @Dashing raise some Excellent Points. Enjoyed the Read. Lol *ForRealTho*

  21. Mike smiff says:

There wouldn’t be a need for Obama if the republicans did their job.

  22. Truth Will Out says:

It’s like the more global Jay gets, the more dumb he sounds.
