2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cyphers

Trae Tha Truth, Chipmunk, Iggy Azaela, B.o.B., & T.I.

As always, the highlight of last night’s Hip-Hop Awards were the cyphers. Personally, there weren’t any “oh shit!” moments this year, but I took the liberty of bolding the best spitter of each group. Here are the rips courtesy of yardie. Let the great debates begin.

Jaybird, Hopsin, ScHoolboy Q, Mac Miller, & Mystikal

Jean Grae, Sarkodie, Ab Soul, & Talib Kweli

Angel Haze, Joey BadA$$, Driiky Graham, Childish Gambino, & A$AP Rocky

Xzibit, YG, Kurupt, E-40,  DJ Quik, Kendrick Lamar, & Snoop Dogg

Murda Mook, Cassidy, Eve, & DMX

  • Meech

Kendrick probably was the best and after that I gotta give it to Joey Bada$$

  • Trae and tip was fire…. boo to the rest

  • Chris

  • Hip-Hop Fiend

Childish Gambino was dope! Ruff Ryders was the biggest dissapointment

  • wayy

    Cassidy killed it.

  • Hip-Hop Fiend

@citylivin’ Cassidy was garbage they should of put Jadakiss instead of him.

  • JoeyBadAss/Cassidy/Dmx/

  • Kunta Kente

You will never see J. Cole or Drake in a cypher cuz they take 9 weeks to write there rehersed veres

  • Uh-oh

Talib Kweli > Ab Soul. Listen again, B.Dot

  • Brooklyn

What was so special about Cassidy? Joey BadA$$ the best

  • eastpointvet

need to hear the unedited versions i thought mook had the best verse in ruff ryders cypher but now listening back to it i think X really got off if i can hear what the bleeps were. gambino was best in his cypher and talib in his. mac miller was correct and snoop was correct simply because he freestyled.

  • Dave

    1. Childish 2. Mac 3. Cassidy

  • eastpointvet

i had to listen to Joey verse like 3 times to make sure i didnt miss nothing and i didnt its still was weak as i though the first time i heard it and i like the kid but those bars are pretty half assed for him.

  • cj

    EASY . MOOK!

  • PussyMonster

Why didn’t they just do a Black Hippy Cypher? Shit woulda been better than the GOOD Music Cypher

  • Commentator of Common Sense

Damn compared to the previous years…all these shits was weak!

  • DJ Game

Rocky and Cassidy MURDERED THAT! did you hear what they said?! what?!

  • Wiz

    Joey BadA$$ and Gambino >>>>

  • The Rza cipher had the best line for line MCs, they all burned it. the kid Joey Bada$$, Dricky Graham really went in, but all of em were nasty. Mac Miller and Hopsin showed out (loved Mystikal too), Kweli & Sarkodie killed it, the West coast rocked (Kendrick wasnt off beat, he was just kicking advanced flows, some of yall are just too basic to follow), and TI & Grand Hustle had a respectable session. The Ruff Ryders one kinda disappointed ’cause most of the RR heavyweights were absent (Eve & Mook were impressive, Cassidy & X killed).

  • Kid

@B.dot ……..dude childish gambinos verse was more original than Asaps, and it gotten crowd reaction.
But if anything angel haze shoulda got bolded, Asaps verse was boring and typical.
Kendrick Lamar’s ( and E-40 but Kendrick was more lyrical) verse was the only one that really stood out. Snoops wasn’t that impressive. -_-

  • King Chandler

Hopsin is dope lyrically but he overdoes it with the voice impressions, Highlight for me was seeing one of my top 5 D.O.A. artists, The Quiksta himself, spittin his rhymes permed the fuck out while poundin the beat on the domino table. That shit was dope.

  • _R

T.I. might be dopest one IMO and b.dot always gon take a shot at Kendrick we understand u don’t fuck with him

  • Jebus

    mystikal killed it

  • JMillionaire

  • ceaze

i rememba 2chainz got his shine in the cypher last year…this’s some weak ass shit….

  • Cz

BoB, mystikal (his delivery had me dyin), talib, Joey, dmx, Kendrick…Kendrick wasn’t off beat at all, don’t know what you were listening to.

And I lost a lot of respect for people today…I’ll admit I listen to some of his stuff if I see it on a website…but childish gambino?? He wasn’t even close to being one of the best.

  • @tshiamofs

Unfortunately the shady cypher will never be matched!

  • WorldWide

    Just remember the name Chip!!

  • Blaxdon

Weak sauce for the most part. Yes Snoop that means you too, at least I see why he wears that hat now. Niggaz wasn’t sayin’ nothin. Childish had some shit. Mac miller flowed but he ain’t snap. E40 repped proper. Tip got wack juice on him I can’t put my finger on it. Wasn’t no Good music cypher that’s for sure. Wasn’t no Nicki Minaj /Joe budden cypher that’s for sure. Wasn’t no Rev run Ice cube cypher that’s for sure. Yeah shit was just weak this year.

  • Lethargic1

Talib Kweli was the highlight of the night. Childish killed, 40 Water killed, and K. Dot killed. Hopsin was good too. Everyone else can fall back. Jean Grae seemed like she didn’t even wanna be there. Very disappointed in her verse.

  • too short

yup!!! i think chip KILLED IT!!! “about to do like al-qaueda an blow up the states” whaaattt! fire!!

  • Dashing

    Mac Miller
    ASAP Rocky
Kendrick Lamar (was ON beat, re-listen to it)

Gambino ended his verse well, but otherwise was not as tight as Rocky’s.

    Most disappointing:
    Jean Grae

She looked like Obama in the debate, no energy, didn’t try that hard.

Most style: Mac Miller (to my surprise)
    Most substance: Kendrick Lamar

  • Lantern Core

lol @ the Audacity of London rapper Chip
“al-Qaeda bout to blow up in the states”

suprised BET didn’t edit that part out

  • Realniggashit

Joey BadA$$ look at A$AP Face while he spit

  • BrandonTex

It wasnt that great, but the west coast killed it.

Kurupt prolly freestyled something different every take hes crazy!

E-40 did his thing and got smiles the most to me

but i gotta say….why is no one talkin bout Xzibit!?!?! dude is crazy
you young niggaz go do ur history and listen to 40 Days and 40 Nights, At The Speed Of Life… feel sorry for this generation…Napalm is sick!

Talib was solid too as was DMX and Cass

  • TobiasWayn

    Brings back memories..

  • teejay

    Kweli’s last line was killer.

  • chillthrills

the best in no particular order,,,
    YG,,,childish gambino,,,,,xzibit,,,,dmx,,,,,angel haze,,,,, joey badass,,,,,dricky graham,,,,,trae tha truth,,,,,

  • PPrrootteesstt

Honestly, I hate Childish Gambino, but he had the most creative verse. Then came Jean Grae, then Ab Soul, then Kendrick. The only other verse that stood out was E-40’s because he’s so unorthodox with his flow. Everybody else is very forgettable. Thats my top 5, take it or leave it

  • B.Dot

40 water did his thing! I liked Snoops more cause it was off the dome. But they both were good.

  • DJ Semtex’s Prothsetic

Im frank ocean at a chik-a-fila i’ll never get served

  • Fuck A Republican

E-40 been spitting that type of shit for decades and people just now recognize.

That cypher with childish gambino was the weakest

  • Christian

  • dopeness

rocky, joey, kendrick, and gambino all killed it, rest of em… meh

  • dopeness

B.dot said he like 40’s verse but k dot was off beat? hahhaha YOU A CLOWN SON!!!!!!

  • Nickey Negrito

out of all of them, i digged E40 and K.Lamar the most….oh can’t forget Cass and Mook was good

But it’s clearly too many rappers nowadays that hip hop is kinda boring

  • buzz

talib kweli, joey bada$$, trae the truth, E-40 ( it was funny), B.O.B, ASAP rocky, was the best IMO. Mystikal actually did good at the end of his too.

  • You fucked up on the best list.. Snoop > K Dot?? Fuck outta here.

  • JReezy

People not giving Ab-Soul no props? SMH, dude killed the cypher. Listening to K. Dot’s, he wasn’t off beat. Even with his use of a more complicated rhyme scheme he still seemed on beat imo.

  • cam

whos the rapper in the commercial before the cyphers. his first line “BE ORIGINAL ONE OF MY FAVORITE PRINCIPALS”

  • I guess B Dot must’ve really not liked the grand hustle cypher lol, didnt even put it in the post. Or the warm up cyphers

  • vurbz

everybody was weak…except childish gambino, DMX and mac miller…poor year…its not just about lyrical content, there’s gotta be a delivery too..wish rakim was in one of these..always merks a verse

  • ran

  • Tdub

That boy Donald killed it! Joey is one lazy ass rapper to spit a old verse for the cypher (from the song “Suspect”). He deserved to get booted for that shit.

  • broski

    joey bad azzzzzz !!!!!!!!!

  • Del

Kendrick and Kweli took it… and Kendrick wasn’t off beat at all, if you really think that then his verse was just too much for you to comprehend… like E40 said, y’all listening too slow

  • shady dave

This cypher was just weak as, total trash!

  • Greg

Why is everyone sleeping on Xzibit? he killed it.

  • Dashing

Why is everyone sleeping on Mac Miller?

I know people want to clown dude cause he’s white, but he was hands-down one of the best this year.

Admittedly, this wasn’t touching last year’s cypher though…

  • That Guy

    Cassidy killed

  • Mojo

Autoplay on all the videos RR?????
