?uestlove will soon add professor to his resume. The Roots drummer will join Universal VP of A&R Harry Weinger to teach a course for the Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
The two credit course, Classic Albums which begins this Fall, will focus on the criteria of a classic album from its production to its marketing and impact.

Fuck Harvey Levin and anybody that loves his celebrity news website. First you prematurely pronounce the impending death of Lil Wayne (Weezy Forgives. We Don't.) and then you try to link the horrific actions of one of the Boston Marathon culprits to our culture? "DEAD BOMBING SUSPECT: HEAVY INTO HIP HOP" You don't say? It's 2013 and most kids are into rap music. We've been penetrated pop culture, you cock suckers. "What's interesting... hip-hop lyrics are notoriously violent and often degrading to women." So our music is at fault in this tragedy? Let's be clear the only bombs my culture cosigns is DJ Funkmaster Flex's sound effects. Thirty Mile Zone is prone to post anything to get traffic. Fuck dude and his coffee cup. Get you a Rap Radar cup and drink with us in the winner's circle.
Oh Miguel. Leg droppin your fans? You ain't Hulk Hogan and that wasn't part of the program. That's no way to treat the adoring ladies, brother.
This sounds like it would be an awesome class to attend!
Nice ! Congrats to ?uestlove.
sign me up
YOUR AN IDIOT IF YOUR WASITING 2 CREDITS AT NYU’S TUTION RATE ON THIS BULLSHIT OF A CLASS !!!
You make us proud Sir!….
get back to philly and teach them savages
And people wonder why college grads are fucking idiots these days? Well shit, keep watering down real degrees from real disciplines with bullshit like this, and that’s what you get. Might as well take underwater sculpting while you’re at it… or maybe that class on Beyonce, lol. Trust me, what you’ll learn will definitely be applicable to practical situations in life. Definitely
not.
What’s even more amusing is that a class like this makes it seem like creating a classic album isn’t something spontaneous and organic, but something that can be taught, and then planned, organized, and executed, when in actuality the artists who perform the latter are virtually destined to NOT create a classic album because they’re trying too hard, thinking too much, and it’s ultimately not organic. It’s not created for the love of music, it’s created to create a classic album, and that’s not authentic.
There you go ?, just taught your entire course in one (potentially) run-on sentence.
Roots are the real deal!!!
Tell me why this mans crotch is splitting at the seams.
Conrats to ?uest, but How are these course applied to the collegiate curriculum and why are they relevant and how will they help a student in the long run. Imagine someone discussing Illmatic or Enter the 36 Chambers at a job interview or a a carrer workshop even if its in regards to working in the music field. FOH. Meanwhile, teachers in NYC dont even have enough classroom resources to teach at times. Not hating on ?uestlove at all, but i felt the same way when Bun B and 9th Wonder started teaching college courses as well. Just because you are an emcee or producer doesnt make you 100% credible. If these dudes want to help, get some performing arts and instruments into public schools in NYC Chicago, LA and Philadelphia. Stop Fucking around!
All you dudes coming to conclusions on what the class will be about and what will happen in the class get the fuck outta here. Just the fact the ?uestlove is teaching the class is amazing. He has firsthand knowledge and experience so stop hating.
Man.
I ain’t hating.
I’m actually a Roots fan, like for real.
I’m probably one of the few people that actually bought ‘undun’.
But what makes him think he’s eligible to teach a course on classic albums…
When he hasn’t dropped a classic himself!
“Things Fall Apart” is a good 4, teetering on 4.5. Same for “Illadelph Halflife”. But I don’t think The Roots have or will ever make a classic. And I love The Roots. Redman is probably my personal favorite rapper of all time, but I don’t think “Muddy Waters” is a classic either (again, 4-4.5).
No need to “come to conclusions” about what the class will be about, they said it in the post…
“The two credit course, Classic Albums which begins this Fall, will focus on the criteria of a classic album from its production to its marketing and impact.”
Even if it was some super deep philosophical discussion about “Classic Albums,” it’s still 100% useless in real life.
An over-hyped average drummer who has never made a classic album is teaching a class on “classic albums”.
His next class is probably “how to stay thin” .
