Nas Re-Releasing Illmatic
Like they did with Raekwon‘s OB4CL, Get On Down will be releasing their deluxe gold box set of Nas’ classic, Illmatic. The re-release of the ’94 debut from Esco will include a CD and vinyl packaging and will be available on December 9. Complex has the scoop.
The CD set includes:
– 24k Audiophile Gold Disc CD with re-mastered audio, housed in a “Cherrywood Trophy Box” with gold plaque.
– Black 2-piece outer box with original ‘Nas’ promotional sticker exclusive to Get on Down.com Orders.
– 48 page full-color, hard cover liner notes book including extended artwork, full album lyrics and liner notes from The Source founder Jon Shecter.
– A reproduction of the original 1994 illmatic press release.
– Two 8 x10 glossy promo photo’s used in the illmatic campaign.
– Rare 1994 promotional poster with full album lyrics printed on the back.The Vinyl set includes:
– Vinyl LP packaged with full lyric insert
– 48 page full-color, hard cover liner notes book including extended artwork, full album lyrics and liner notes from The Source founder Jon Shecter.
– A reproduction of the original 1994 illmatic press release

Lol its so weird, cuz 5 minutes ago i was listening to Life’s a bitch and I was like “why hasn’t this dude re released a better quality of the album”. Then i read this. Good stuff Nas.
Definitlly a good look! It’s classic, period! So why not give it a little classic make over. Re-mastered is where it’s at, tho! Can’t wait to put that in the whip. Copping’ this for sure!

How dare you call a classic album such as “Illmatic” overated and that 50, first is better. Even 50 off the record will tell you to kill yourself. Not taking nothing away from 50 first album though. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say when 50 first album is 18 yrs old and boxed set yet alone irrelevant.

I know a lot of niggas don’t agree because Illmatic is a more traditional “hip hop” sound but IWW is a better overall album, that’s just me.
Illmatic might have my two favorite Nas songs (World is Yours, Memory Lane) but I also don’t go wild over Halftime or One Time for Your mind like that.
On the other hand, as a body of work, there ain’t one song on IWW that don’t fit or flow right, that shit is flawless, they need to re-release that and give it the respect it deserves…
