’12 Disappointing Albums: #3 Big K.R.I.T. Live From The Underground

live from the undergound-cover

With two celebrated mixtapes under his belt, Big K.R.I.T.’s official debut, Live From The Underground had high expectations. Unfortunately, listeners were let down by some rookie mistakes. No one knows K.R.I.T.’s sound better than himself and on Live From The Underground, he mans the boards by his lonely. There’s the commanding “I Got This” and salacious “What U Mean”. “Praying Man” deserves praise, but for the most part, a bulk of the player falls flat.  “Hydroplaning” and “Money On The Floor” lack enthusiasm while “Yeah Dats Me” sounds out of place. Same goes for Anthony Hamilton’s hook on “Porchlight”. There’s no doubt K.R.I.T. will be remembered in time. It’s this album that we are worried about.

  1. Gambino says:

    this album was dope.

  2. Dot says:

    Fuck off B.Dot… dumb motherfucker

  3. Nick says:

this is retarded holy shit, this was top 10 albums of 2012 for sure. get your head out of your ass

  4. Gambino says:

B.Dot every song you mentioned was fantastic. Especially Hydroplaning and Porchlight.

    1. B.Dot says:

      @Nein6x

      I respectfully disagree.

There’s a difference between WORST and DISAPPOINTING. I think people are losing sight on that.

Did i think it sucked? No. But i think it coulda been better….especially with all the hype surrounding him.

  5. Nein6x says:

Yeah B.Dot you wylin’ for this one. This album was dope af…

  6. Austin says:

ehhh… come’on B Dot you know better than that. this album was on point

  7. Ryan says:

did you mean to put this on the underrated last or…?

  8. JustMyOpinion says:

Oh ok. I see B.Dot going. He’s not saying it was wack just it could’ve been better. #agree
Read y’all he said “rookie mistake.”

  9. the brain trust says:

Finally! Someone said it. This album was actually pretty terrible.

The insightful introspection, heart wrenching soul samples and great songwriting (which were in full force on his 3 mixtapes) was nowhere to be found here. Instead, we were bored to death by repetitive talk of ‘chicken heads’, ‘old school whips’ & ‘candy paint’.

He also picked up the annoying habit of simply repeating words loudly & calling it a ‘hook’ (See ‘I Got This’ & ‘Yeah That’s Me’).

Disagree with your view of ‘Money on the Floor’. That was one of the few great songs & it should have been a hit record (along with ‘If I Fall)’

All in all, Krit has to do better. He made the rookie error of giving too much free music away.

  10. Facts says:

I think y’all just got it confused with the “Underrated” category

Where the actual fuck do y’all live to say this album was disappointing

Of course it did not live up to the public hype, anybody with the ability to think in a logical way knew that this would not be possible considering the album was under a major label

Regardless, it was STILL a very good album, especially compared to all this cancer we’ve been getting from Meek and so on

  11. I’ll have to respectfully disagree. Live from the Underground was a great record with excellent production, as a Big K.R.I.T. fan I couldn’t ask for more. However it may fall short to a listener who is used to more commercial records.

    1. B.Dot says:

      @radiocanthearu
      ^
Excellent production, tho? *grits teeth* lol…I really want to say that, but i can’t. I think the overall sound was too much the same

  12. BBGUN says:

Wow some people were considering this a classic. I always thought it was a little over rated, but never considered it disappointing.

  13. Get Real says:

@ Gambino – It was dope, but not dope enough.

That being said this album could’ve easily been number 1 on this list.

  14. Amsterdam2013 says:

This album sucks and has 2 good songs which are “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and “Praying Man”.

  15. Uh-oh says:

It was a solid 4 out of 5. I think it SLIGHTLY underwhelmed because of sampling issues he had with it being a major label release vs his mixtapes (which are actually albums) having total creative freedom.

  16. A$VP J-MAC says:

    B. DOT Wassupppp! i agrre

  17. Though I really don’t want to, I have to agree with B.dot – it wasn’t a pure KRIT record, the same way that Kendrick was allowed to him, I dont think that freedom was given to KRIT and you can hear it in the music – I liked it, but it wasnt loved like i did the mixtapes.

  18. Krizzle Mang says:

i agree this album was kinda boring like onfic

  19. Mouse says:

    @B.Dot

I see your point about it being disappointing but let’s keep in mind this was a major label album.

He turned in both Return of 4eva and 4eva N a Day as his debut album and both times they sent him back to the drawing board.

Still in all he delivered on an album as close to K.R.I.T level music as he was going to get. I think the G.O.A.T said it best. “I dumb down for my audience to double my dollars” Only K.R.I.T. didn’t have a choice

  20. rick says:

I’m a huge krit fan and the album was disappointing. Wack? No. Disappointing? Yes. Especially when you compare to the classic tapes he dropped….

  21. Ten Macaroni Necklaces says:

    I agree, album was pretty…eh.

I think KRIT ended up putting his best songs on the mixtapes. I think a majority of Return of forever and 4Eva N A Day was supposed to be the album.

just like JCole put some of his best songs in FNL instead of Cole World and the mixtape ended up being better than the album.

  22. M.T says:

totally agree. bdot got it right. album was boring and production was bland. this project wasnt as strong as his previous mixtape. I did enjoy the end of the album tho. songs like “If I fall”, “Praying Man” and ‘Live from the Underground Reprise” were standouts to me. Overall kinda disappointing.

  23. micjonez219 says:

B.Dot you buggin out fam. This album was no where near disappointing. I really surprised that this would make that list. His production was on point. Money on the Floor is so cold he was trying to give people that old Suave House feel. I can agree that the two joints Yeah Dats Me & I Got Dis Here are too similar & repetitive but in the long run he’s on a major label so he’s got to move units.

  24. DiI says:

    dope album!!KRIT Da FUTURE

  25. CaliSteppin says:

Its DISAPPOINTING not the worst albums category and Krit’s album did disappoint me. Its just “meh” to me while his mixtapes were amazing

  26. ESS says:

People dnt understand this is DISAPPOINTING not wack but DISAPPOINTING … this was wacker than his 3 mixtapes… not 2…but album was good not wack but disappointing this shouldhve been his number 1 work.. but shiit cant wait for next project and hopefully second album the best

  27. Loch says:

Honestly I only listened to Krit’s album like 2 times but, had his mixtapes on bang. The album was kind of boring, but Krit is really dope and has proved he got it.

  28. Scott says:

Disappointing! Nah this album was suppa dope. Rapradar, u need to check your stats next time u start posting shit!!!

  29. i agree.

the mixtapes had such great soulful samples. cant do that on majors.

  30. Krizzle fan says:

“Fact remains that I’m still the same and I’ll never change or settle.
Cause I ain’t tripping on mainstream cause love from the underground, that’s forever”

    FUCK ALL YOU HATERS

Krizzle is and will always be the shit as long as he lives up to this above qoute^^^^^^
His style and lyrics are straight from the soul, he is so dope and this album was THE ABSOLUTE SHIT. FUCK YOU B DOT!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. flo says:

i mean at first you might of been saying to yourself this album is wack. but if yout ook the time into listening to the album over and over again, you would begin to enjoy it and see that it wasnt that bad of an album

  32. Nathanial Hörnblowér says:

I liked the album point blank cuz KRIT has that Outkast and UGK DNA that seems to have skipped a generation. Def Jam got it fucked up tho with the pushbacks and interference. I’m sure any of our disappointment hardly compares to how KRIT felt about old New York guys in suits telling him how to craft a southern classic. KRIT that dude tho and he’s cookin up so keep fueling his fire I’m cool with that.

  33. DJ Game says:

You are on crack of you think this album was a disappointment. Stop playing.

  34. GODBODY says:

ALBUM WAS DOPE THAT SHIT YA LIKED WIT LUDACRIS ON IT IS THE ONLY WACK SONG! YA FUCKED UP FUCK YA OPINION ON HIPHOP

  35. AJB4 says:

this album was one the top 5 best albums of the year. not as great as mixtapes but still great. his mixtapes are better than most albums

  36. adrian says:

I dig krit but I was very disappointed with this album. I thought he just couldnt afford to get samples cleared. His best beats are sample beats

  37. Doe Money says:

My god. Are you f*cking serious. You know know absolutely shit about hiphop if you call this dissappointing….WTF

  38. Doe Money says:

What do you expect B.Dot to say. If it weren’t for the MMG roster, YMCMB roster and JOn Connor, this site would not have anything to post.

  39. I was really looking forward to this album. I think “Money On The Floor” and “If I Fall” were amazing, and better than most songs put in to rotation this year. With that said, I was thoroughly disappointed with the album as a whole. It wasn’t a horrid album, but based on what I was expecting off of his mixtapes? I was thoroughly disappointed.

KRIT is a dope ass artist, and definitely didn’t lose a fan in me AT ALL! I still look forward to any and everything he is going to put out, and I’ll be the first one bumping it in my truck! Though this offering didn’t live up to my expectation, dude is definitely shitting on the majority of the folks out here, and has plenty of room to grow. He’ll be aight.

  40. Maize says:

I disagree on it making the disappointing list. I expected a lil more but I wasn’t disappointed

  41. mikewillDIDNTmakeIT says:

only a dickrider wouldnt said this album was kinda boring and a bit disappointing… me i been a huuuuge big krit fan since like 2009.. so compared to his 3mixtape(krit wuz here, return of 4eva.4eva and a day) if u listen to all those 3 you will notice that this album was disapointing.. but it was still a good album.. but didnt have big replay value and i just expected more since i looove his mixtape, his mixtape shit still playing em today…but people should still cop it because he gave us 3 classic mixtape that could been albums and dnt forget he produces all his tracks himself.. talented dude here that will rule the rap game for long time here we got a big legend!…. next mixtape he dropping going to be hard as fuck and then hopefully next album way better than this one here.

  42. ryuk says:

Oh RR. How B.Dot is allowed to let this trash fall out of hismface, i’llmnever know. Putting this album on your Disapointing list puts YOUR musical taste into question. So many well respected folks disagree with you. Hell 9th Wonder recently ranked this as one of his favorite projects this year. Youre more than entitled to your opinion . But whose word are you going to take for it? I’ll wait.

  43. Concerned listener says:

Exactly why this site is garbage. Completely for sale. I bet Ross, 2 Chainz, and DJ Khaled’s albums were dope though right? Riiiiiiiight…lol

  44. killah says:

this album was dope as shit. stop supporting that bullshit. you gotta get fired for hating on KRIT

  45. tre says:

    go listen to handwriting

  46. Showboat says:

I have to agree with B. Dot. Anybody that listened to 4eva N a Day and his previous work and then went on to buy this album had to have been like “WTF????” Not even on the same level of consistency. If you are truly being objective.

  47. Showboat says:

    @get real and @brain trust. co-sign 1000%

  48. ImSayingTho says:

I am a huge Big K.R.I.T. fan. And I know the worth of and how great “Live From The Underground” is. A real fan will never be disappointed with his major label album, because we know what he went through to put this album out. At the end of the day most of you are disappointed with this album, because it wasn’t “K.R.I.T. Wuz Here” “Return Of 4eva” or “4eva Na Day.” And that’s fine, but you do realize that you’re comparing him to himself, so he still wins. “Live From The Underground” was at the moment the best album that K.R.I.T. & DEF JAM could give us. And “4eva Na Day” was such a great tape that dropped before “Live From The Underground,” and most people consider it to be better. And it should be better, because he made the tape after the album. But those are things that real fans know, and I don’t expect outside listeners to get that OR care.

“Live From The Underground” = Top Album of 2012 that some people are disappointed with. OKAY, I can live with that. As long as nobody is saying that it wasn’t a great album. I’m assuming that you’re saying, it wasn’t what YOU expected. RESPECT.

  49. Missedgyc says:

    Nahhh
    This album is dope.

  50. 5 years ago XXL fired Elliott Wilson for to much dicksucking and he later had throat problems for swallowing too much sperm says:

So they are saying this was Disappointing even though most people loved it

  51. Shooga says:

Call him the Original Hip Hop Hipster B.Dot.

  52. Sean Mahoney says:

I loved this album- there are a couple of tracks that I don’t go back to but with I got this, Live from the underground (part one and two), pull up, rich dad poor dad, praying man and my sub part two are brilliant songs. We need to support Krit as well seeing as his label constantly fail to.

  53. Cp says:

Damnnnnnnn forreal?! I literally JUST downloaded this album last night so I could hear it at work this morning, and this is the first thing I see right before putting it on. Was his lyrical content atleast on point? I wouldnt be toooo disapointed if the album still serves poetic justice.

  54. Cp says:

Imma huge KRIT fan n e ways, so I feel like this album still may be a great listen, no matter what.

  55. djjunebug808 says:

I agree with B.Dot.. KRIT’s two mixtapes were wayyyyyyy better than his album.

  56. lilrizq says:

Rap Radar’s tweak most be heavier then Wiz’s. Yall have Macklemore album as underrated and then have this album as disappointing??? Macklemore mos def got bars but his beats sound like commercial trash. K.R.I.T. has beats, content and deliver and all the tracks yall are dissing sound dope as -uck to me. Someone fire the nut who made this choice. Now look at this video I edited for my homie “The Voice”.

  57. AJB4 says:

what about Rick Ross’ album that album was disappointing but knowing you guys it’ll be in the top 5 list smh.

  58. Brandon says:

I’m sorry, but Live From the Underground was on point! The only song I didn’t care for was Yeah Dats Me, but that was it. It was a great album, but Def Jam don’t promote, but a few artist. 10 years ago, this album goes platinum!

  59. Jeevan says:

Are you crazy Money On The Floor was that shit.

  60. ImSayingTho says:

  63. UncleSam says:

Ive been a KRIT fan for awhile and after hearing 4eva N A Day, i was disappointed in this album. Im not saying it was bad tho, cause it wasnt. Im guessing the label pushed him in the direction it went. I was expecting it to be on the same level as his mixtapes
