Uncle Luke Pens Letter To Rick Ross

"Life And Freaky Times Of Uncle Luke" Portraits - 2012 Sundance Film Festival

In today’s Miami New Times, Uncle Luke penned a letter to Rozay for his “Luke’s Gospel” column. Amen?

Dear Rick Ross:

As someone who survived several rap beefs, I’m going to give you some advice. You need to seriously address the threats and attempts on your life. You have worked hard to become a big name in hip-hop. You’ve paid your dues and you’ve grown lyrically since the release of your debut album, Port of Miami, in 2006. You’ve arrived, buddy.

But all this gangster bullshit is jeopardizing your career. No club or arena is going to risk people getting shot. You can forget about doing any tours or CD signings. And if you can’t make money, watch how fast Warner Bros. Records turns on you. I know from experience how venues and the music industry would like to black ball you.

You have the Gangster Disciples breathing down your neck because you’ve named-dropped Larry Hoover, the gang’s founder, in your music. Unlike the record and book publishing industries, these bad dudes don’t understand the concept of public domain. They see you getting rich forever by rapping about their leader, and they don’t like it. That’s why they’re on YouTube talking about how you need to go see them and cut a check.

It’s a shame you can’t enjoy life without spending part of your earnings on heavy security or risking your freedom by purchasing an arsenal. Remember, that’s what landed T.I. and Lil Wayne in prison. You don’t want that to happen to you. However, those are the consequences of rapping about being something you’re not.

Hip-hop has a rich history of college guys who never committed a crime rapping about moving kilos of cocaine and taking out snitches. Every gangster rapper takes on the role of a real hood legend to build up street cred. But I don’t want you to fall into the trap of believing you are really a gangster.

Trust me, you don’t want to go out like Biggie Smalls or Tupac. It’s time you squash your beefs.

Luke, don’t post here on Rap Radar cause when your opinion differs, you’re a “hater”!
Maybe B Dot , the gatekeeper of hip hop (in his mind), will let us know if Luke is allowed to express himself without being vilified & ridiculed as someone who doesn’t know anything about hip hop

    Lord knows we’re not

Rick Ross has no choice but pay them dudes off or give them a record deal. But the reality is he ain’t getting booked for no tours. no real sponsors are gonna fuck with him right now. and he can’t even stay in his own house. homie is in hiding right now eating whole lotta comfort food and smoking 2 ounces of that good good a day.

there are real gangsters out there and they don’t make records and they use real guns.

  • sugarfreebware

this will be Elliott’s “The Truth” for thursday, no doubt.

Yeah it was honest, but he also sent a few shots in there on the low lol. Really, I don’t see what harm it would do to Rick’s career to just pay them niggas. After the CO shit, 50 putting his BM on blast & all that ya’ll still buying this nigga’s shit. Obviously credibility isn’t something that matters anymore…

  • hoova

Rick ross takes risk ??? thats why he did cancel his mmg tour lmfao?! and now gettin hella much security cause ppl are after him..he scared as hell and need 2 fall back with his rapps

  • IIG

I usually like what Luke has to say, but this was some bullshit. He’s clearly kicking his fellow Miamian while he’s down, and making a point of trying to publicly humiliate him. I don’t even like Rick Ross, but he should tell Uncle Luke to eat a dick.

  • The Goatherder

I’m with IIG. This was self-serving for Luke. A nugget or two in there but generally this was more about Luke than Ross. GTFOH!

  • http://twitter Earl Johnson

  • HIIIPOWER

    AMEN!!!!

  • kayandgee

something for the haters to celebrate, kicking a man when he is down, this letter pissed me off, uncle luke didnt have to put it out there like that, im a fan of rozay, from day one, just let the man make the music that some of us love.

  • Willie Hozay

that was real talk but william had his chance to come clean back when he first got exposed and he chose to ignore it and keep going and pushing his character even further smh

  • YN is a loser

and that people is the most TRUTH we have ever got on this site!!!!!!!!!!! and it didnt come from Elliott Wilson!!!!!!!!!!

PS – I heard that YN got a sponsorship deal with “WILSON” baseball mits……..since his face looks like a old catchers mit.

  • Ramel

He’s right, we all see through your CB4 act William Roberts, you wanna get killed for portraying something to appear validated?

  • uhuruhouston

Luke is right but from the post I see on this thread, you young punks are a bunch of weak-willed, most mama’s boys, probably crack babies!! You don’t have the sense God gave a damn rock. No wonder most of ya are in jail and the young girls got some kind of disease. Dumb asses!!!

  • uhuruhouston

Rick Ross is a big bitch and got smelly bitches on his jock!!!

  • HipHop 89

    SHOTS FIRED!!!!

  • Mikey

Great post and great advice. Only if he would take it.

  • Shan Tha Man

    Preach! Stop the charades William!!

  • Reginald

  • Albatros

So Rick Ross has to pay those lazy-ass GPs or whatever their name is? How stupid is that? You guys need to come up with a new plan to stop Rozay.
    MMG!!!

  • Chris

MMG groupies and Stan’s are funny. You all know this is EXACTLY what “the biggest boss” needs to hear.

  • atown don

Luke what Real Rap Beefs have u survived??? None…. Hatin ass nigga! How bout you address that stripper puttin his DICK on you hoe(wife) head during her bachelorette party nigga before you try to give advise to a BOSS that done surpassed anything you ever tried to do! Rozay talkin bout bum ass niggas like Luke in So Sophistocated… I Trick Daddy ready to give some advise next huh!? Lame ass niggaz

  • Deebo

It’s deeper than rap. This man:

-stole Freeway Rick Ross’s name & identity.

-sparked a rap beef with 50 Cent for no apparent reason. It went from entertainment to Gunplay getting stomped out.

-taunted Jeezy about his dead lil bruh on the Rich Forever mixtape and ended up having an altercation with Jeezy at the BET Awards.

-Name dropped Hoover & threw the star on his mixtape. Then responded to the GDs displeasure by getting on the radio talkin bout “when the choppers come out, everybody fold,” “i’m good anywhere,” etc.

What kind of lame mufucka uses a multi-million dollar rap career to position himself as the top gangster in the country at almost 40 years old? Ross deserves whatever comes to him. And to you emotional ass fucks that’s mad at all the real life heat coming his way, ya’ll get partial blame as well. Building these non-star ass rappers up to be somethin they not.

  • atown don

@ Deebo you know whats LAME??? YOU… Now you follow this man’s whole career, probably know all his songs, life story etc…. But u still hate on the man..LOL These new age hating/secret loving ass internet thugs! Even named dropped one of his albums… WOW

  • THE MAJESTIC NIGLET

totally agree been predicting this shit he needs to stop with this fake image before someone smokes him in his maybach UGH!

  • Smokey the real 305 stand up

Y’all can say what you want But Rick Ross know better He will not disrespect uncle Luke Because if he do there will be consequences

  • KingJuggaNott

Now that we allowed it into our Genre–it’s going to be extremely hard to get the Criminal Element out of our Genre.

  • brollya

wonder if 106 and park a report this since they lik reporting everybody else bad news….. but they never tell the truth bout ymcmb or mmg…..

    but luke killed em…

  • Deebo

    @atown don

Luke was beefing with Death Row heavy, on wax and in the streets. You must be young or have amnesia.

  • AMAZINACE

People are Telling The TRUTH More Than Elliot Wilson This Wee it Was Lord Jamar Now Uncle Luke Shout to Them

  • Deebo

    @atown don

That shit burned didn’t it? Thanks for callin me a hater, shit must’ve been true. Don’t be mad at me that yo favorite rapper is MC Gusto. A spade is a spade bruh.

  • Your Life Is A Lie

Ether, burn slow in the hearts of all you idiots

  • london

“You have worked hard to become a big name in hip-hop” .WHAT?

  • uhuruhouston

One can have money and still be a loathsome piece of shit! Whichj is the case with most of you low-life crack babies!!!

  • Oj Da Cornball

YN will respond with “the truth”, a false objective commentary to play on gullible one psychi as if its actually truth, to refute Luke and encourage Ross to “keep doing your thing, Rozay, hiphop needs you. Do what u been doing.”

  • chillthrill

lets see if william can reinvent himself,,,cause thats what needs to happen,,,niggas dont believe you anymore,,,if they did in the first place,,,,but your ways and actions,,,dictate how far you will go,,,and from the looks of it you crashed into a building,,after hearing shots,,,you might need to change from that ,gangsta rap shit,,,for real,,,,just because other niggas do it,,dont mean its for you,,,or fuck it bow out gracefully,,,,and see if the game misses you,,,back catalogs will let you know that,,,

  • Wall

“However, those are the consequences of rapping about being something you’re not.”
    .
    Sad, but true.
    .
Would be interesting if Elliot Wilson could reflect over real issues like these in his “The Truth” videos. Just my opinion.

  • ZoomZoomDad-Otis

hahaha@Oj Da Cornball. A Gangster like William hiding behind a newpaper. .

  • http://www.1073wkcr.com TRACK KING COLE

Im glad a Miami hiphop Legend like Luther Campbell decided to write this open letter to the rapper Rick Ross. I think it was very positive and hopefully the response is positive as well.

Now with that being said, I want to speak directly to Elliot Wilson for a minute. YN i have watched you transform into something that you were totally against in your early days at Ego Trip Magazine. Personally you are someone i highly respect not only for your accolades but because of your knowledge of the culture we call hiphop. You paved the way for every true hiphop journalist out there including RapRadar’s Brian “B Dot” Miller.

You were never a person who showed favortism amongst artist and thats something i always respected about you. Your one of the reasons I do what i do in 2013. But make no mistakes about it, you need to be called to task about the blind obsession you have with MMG and the rapper Rick Ross.

You blindly promote this guy no matter whats the case. Not only is it disrespectful to other artist, but its down right negligent and disingenuous to the culture of hiphop. I have never seen a artist in all my years get this much biased promotion by the hiphop media.

When you match this guy Rick Ross accolades with some of the all times greats he doesnt even belong in the conversation, but yet RapRadar, a few brothers at MTV, and other powerful websites continue to push this Facade.

My question to you is why? Why is this madness so important to you? Why must the G.O.A.T. of Hip-Hop Journalism support this fraud and his fake lifestyle?

Elliot, you dont owe me nothing, which you already know. But once i started taking the Executive side of the Hiphop culture more seriously, you were the stand up guy i watched from a distance so I could learn how to maneuver through this legendary culture.

Now im wondering to myself if giving you such high praise was a big mistake, because you my friend are starting to show your true intentions.

  • How Wonderful…

Wise words from Luke…This was needed. Someone to speak open and honestly and not to encourage nonsense. Im sure Luke will get some backlash for this somewhere, but Luke did what so many other hiphop outlets and personalities shouldve done a long time ago.

  • chin

Let’s keep it 100.. He’s sneak dissin’ him because he could’ve called him or sent him an email but he did it in ftont of the whole world. Shit is like that AR-ab shit

  • e@rl th@ pe@rl

This IS about Luke. This ain’t Rick Ross. Though, he makes valid points, all this could have been said via phone. Not a column in a magazine/newspaper.

And people love to bring up the whole CO thing like that’s never been addressed before. Most that do bring it up have never even seen what the inside of a jail looks like.

Dude makes good music. And that’s all the fans care about.

  • How Wonderful…

This goes out to everyone defending Rick Ross:

This is an OG move by Luke. Simply pulling someones card. Luke couldve made a phone call, but why? because alot of rap fans may feel the same exact way. Ross makes great music, i listen to him all the time. But authenticity is still highly important in todays culture that condones fraudulent activity in every arena. Luke is monumental in the Florida rap Scene. I remember when 2 Live Crew were facing prison time for obscenity. Luke is a legend. Thats why Luke can call out Rick Ross. From Trunk rattling, booty shaking to the trap sound, Luke helped birth the Miami and Florida hip hop scene.

  • Wall

@ People saying this could’ve been said via mail or phone. Do you think that “the message” would’ve made the same impact?… Probably not.

  • CHIraq,DRILLinois

Ross aint good in Chicago..i will tell u that. When he performed here at Adriannas that nigga came late n left as soon as his 30 min performance was over. And he left with heavy security. He didnt want them problems that was outside. If he ever performs in the chi again plz believe it wont be the congress, adriannas, or nuthin like that. it better be the united center or arie crown. mofos want his ass here. Kno dat.

Luke jus said what a lot of other rappers already kno but aint talkin. they jus watchin ross kill himself. And if he gets killed out here he better not be held with the likes of 2pac or biggie…they didnt lie. this nigga lies

  • Daniel

This may be self serving for Luke but he didn’t lie in the letter. What he said was quite accurate. I love Jay-z because as he grew, his content grew and changed. Ross still trying to be who he was in 06. Reasonable Doubt Jay and Blue Print Jay are very different. Roughly about the same length in years but you hear maturation in Jay. Ross is better but buddy needs to grow up. He is going to screw up his money. And I’m from.Chicago, GDs don’t mess around.

  • County Of Kings

like i dont really understand what yall are saying. u saying the gd’s shot at his car, cuz he is a fake gangsta???
then your admitting that 50 was hating, and the shooting was real.

he got shot at cuz he is fake? so only fake rappers get shot at? real rappers dont get shot at? real gangstas dont get shot at? is tip a real gangsta, or a fake gangsta? cuz his man got murked, was that cuz he was being a fake gangsta?

yall niggas is idiots from head to toe. wtf are yall talking bout. i’m trying to have a debate wit a bunch of vegetables. yep that makes me the idiot i guess

  • FUCK UNCLE LUKE

    FUCK UNCLE LUKE!!!

  • Alkieworld on youtube

Soon everybody will understand why his next album is called MASTERMIND Think about it people!

  • Wall

@County Of Kings: From an objective standpoint, It would seem that the reason Ross “was shot at” in the first place, was in fact because [some] people thought he was/is fake.

  • WestCoast

Fake ass nigga aka ross , he deserve a death

  • I called it

You guys are forgetting that Jay-Z and other major music executives had a MAJOR hand in bringing Rick Ross into the limelight. They probably created the entire strategy for marketing Ross. You think admitting he is a fraud wouldn’t rub off on Jay and em somehow…? Come onnnn….

  • Tec1Nyc

    STINKMEANER says:
stop supporting fakes, lames and actors. you are the stupid ones for buying his music that is filled with glamorous lies. have some fucking musical standards.

Luke didn’t say anything that Ross already don’t know…or any of us. Why send a “public letter”? Send a private one instead. You got publicity from HBO. Nice. Stay in that lane.

Let Diddy tell Ross about Biggie or Snoop or Dre tell Ross about Tupac. When did Luke become the sage that gives advice about stuff we already know????

    GTFOH with a quickness.

the problem is not or may not be a criminal, the problem is jealousy.
