J.Cole Explains Born Sinner Concept

J.Cole’s Born Sinner will finally see the light on June 25th. And in a recent interview with MTV, he explains why he abandoned the basketball themes of his previous project and the concept behind his new album.

“It’s not necessarily a church theme and it’s not really about church,” he explained. “I like my album themes to be metaphors because it gives me the freedom to speak about something else that’s going on in my life, so the Born Sinner thing is not about church, it’s not even about religion. It’s using that as canvas to get other messages across and that’s what the album will be.”

  2. STINKMEANER says:

i’m definitely checkin for this, but i was hopin after cole world and good kid, cole and kendrick would finally focus on their joint album. that shit is gonna be detox2 i just know it.

  3. Black Shady says:

Only album im focusing on this year…..with the GOAT’s new one too….S-s-s-s-shady

  4. Word says:

The Basketball themes are why I became a fan, especially on Cole’s version of Last Call when he basically compared rap to making the cut of the basketball team. Thought that was pretty interesting, plus he called himself the young Lebron a lot. I love talking sports and I love hip hop so when rappers combine the two, I always gravitate towards that.

It’ll be interesting to see where he takes this though. Make this is just a stop gap kinda theme and we’ll get that “Varsity Blues” as a third album down the road.

  5. Westside says:

Fuck anyone’s opinion. J. Cole is the most underrated out. His bars kill anyone in the game except maybe kenderick. And he still get no love… Smh. Can’t wait for Born Sinner. Coleworld.

  6. SoloK says:

    Cole & Kendrick>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

@westside what are you talking about!? Cole has so much love right now. All he needs is to drop that album already! same for Kendrick, the only two dudes that are carrying Hip-Hop on their back!

  7. skinny says:

    A must cop album

  8. CarreraLu says:

    Opposite of a winner?

  9. Westside says:

@Solok what am i talking about? I’m saying he’s underrated even on his label. Rocnation shows no fucking love. And i talk to a lot of people that just want “chief keef” rap… That’s “what I’m talking about”.

  10. ilexx says:

I personally don’t like that that explanation. Rappers are using god/church/religious themes as album titles and song titles and I think they need to let it go. He didn’t offer up an explanation as to what the theme meant, all he did was tell you that it has nothing to do with church, god or religion. So what does it have to do with then?

I fuck with Cole, dats my dude, I wanna see him win. The basketball themes could go on for only so long, they were cool but I don’t mind seeing him move on but I guess I gotta wait until the album drops to find out where he is going with it.

  12. pick says:

NICE AFRO CUBAN LOOKING ASS NIGGA BAHAHAHAHAHA

  13. Iseeu says:

jay cole cant win officially til jay z stops rapping…aint no way cole taking over any roc, pebble or boulder. Remember dr dre is a producer 95% of the time so kendrick was able to rise to the top. But jigga is a rapper 90% of the time so cole will cont to be sidelined. Whos album u buying more jay z or jay cole…some of u niggas waitng on rhianna new album too

  14. sway-z says:

Wtf he say? He put together a bunch of words and ain’t explain shit about the concept

  15. D-Lon says:

I dont think this album is gonna do any better,
sure Cole is a Great Rapper, Great MC, with good lyrical content, but he needs better singles and better production as far as beats…

I hope he achieves whatever he wants to accomplish…

    Big Fan…
