Lil Wayne Sorry For Emmett Till Lyric

Worldstarhiphop 6 Year Anniversary

Is it too late to apologize? The day after word got out that Emmett Till‘s family called for Lil Wayne’s Mountain Dew endorsement, Weezy’s publicist issued an apology for his lyric on “Karate Chop (Remix)”. On the song, Wayne rhymed, “I beat that pussy up like, Emmett Till”.

Dear Till Family:

As a recording artist, I have alway been interested in word play. My lyrics often reference people, places and events in my music, as well as the music that I create for or alongside other artists.

It has come to my attention that lyrics from my contribution to a fellow artist’s song has deeply offended your family. As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys.

Moving forward, I will not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in my music, especially in an inappropriate manner. I fully support Epic Record’s decision to take down the unauthorized version of the song and to not include the reference in the version that went to retail. I will not be performing the lyrics that contain that reference live and have removed them from my catalogue.

I have tremendous respect for those who paved the way for the liberty and opportunities that African-Americans currently enjoy. As a business owner who employs several African-American employees and gives philanthropically to organizations that help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.

Where the fuck did they get that pic from?? Shits extremely funny

wayne is a beast…. omg he shitted on NO NEW FRIENDS AND HOLD ME BACK REMIX

  • B.Dot

    @Peep LOL

lmao Bullshit ass apologies from publicists. If they truly represented the values expressed once MONEY IS THREATENED TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM then they wouldn’t say what they say on records in the first place. Accountability and foresight is something we need and having your publicists draft up a “SAVE MY MONEY” apology is not how to get there lol…”my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community”…yeah whatever bro lmao

  • epinz

    Rick ross shoulda did this…

  • Hip Pop Is Alive!

  • jigga my nigga

Nigga, Wayne ain’t write that shit. Just like the Ross one. Hahaha!

  • Realniggashit

He should’ve been did this, Now it seems like he doing this because they getting ready to fuck up his $$$$ and that is a bitch move.

  • Get Real

Salute to the power of the people!!! Rappers “keep it real” until there’s a check involved. It’s a shame it took Rick Ross being made an example of for artists to hold themselves accountable for their lyrics, but at least they’re willing to do it now when they see how public pressure can affect their livelihoods.

lil Gayne certified as worst rapper & humain of all time © 2013

  • Dashing

Late or not, written by a publicist or not, it’s still a good move to do it. That lyric wasn’t clever, it wasn’t cool. The shit was only fucked up.

  • Nathaniel

what i don’t understand, is why, on a site called rap radar, that is supposed to celebrate hip hop culture, are the rappers who give you all something to report, constantly, spoken of so mockingly, so often? that picture… you use it in this context to make wayne look like a buffoon. some times when i’m on here i feel like i’m on some american news channel. just by the manner in which things are reported. that shit is wack to me. it’s like some tabloid depiction.

  • Junior

It’s song lyrics get over it people lmfao

  • Dub town

Rappers say nigga a zillion times disrespecting there race so why should I give a fuck when they degrade each other…Next!!!!

  • Original Ty

Let’s be real, Mountain Dew ain’t dropping Wayne cause the Till family is upset. I don’t think our society will cause quite the same uproar over the reference to the senseless murder of a black man by whites, with a white woman at the heart of it, as they did over the reference to putting Molly in a girls champagne. The lyric was tasteless and wasn’t even hot enough to warrant the risk of using it but what else is new?

On another note, if they start digging into every rapper’s lyrics to disqualify them from endorsing products we are about to go back to the days when all we endorsed was malt liquor. If this becomes a trend it could be a problem for that endorsement paper rappers been getting.

  • Nathaniel

niggas even imply that wayne, who we all know can speak and went to college and got straight a’s in school, can’t even pen his own apology without the help of a publicist. why? because he’s got a grill, dreads, is covered and tattoos, and doesn’t dress in clothes that mirror what many perceive as business savvy. he doesn’t “look” intelligent to you?

news flash: this is hip hop. niggas are trying to make this shit what jesse jackson envisioned when he was coming at pac and snoop in the early 90’s. i guess that’s why you (B.Dot) were pushin macklemore while niggas nation wide were on kendrick’s album. yeah, i see.

  • Nathaniel

    @Original Ty

true. it was the outcry of white women that got ross dropped. that’s a fact. with this till situation, i’m doubtful it’ll become a big enough liability to mountain dew to cut ties with wayne. now i’m hearing the new felicia the goat tyler the creator commercial is getting backlash for its depiction of so-called black stereotypes, etc. so, every thing we’re doing is getting scrutinized these days, more and more.

  • ZoomZoomDad-Otis

“help youth to pursue their dreams my ultimate intention is to uplift rather than degrade our community.”….Watch his next song he is talking about “ruins the youth and degrade our community”

  • urrrr

isn’t he kinda of late for this apology

  • Black Shady

bla bla bla wayne sure didnt write this. im not even sure he has anything to do with this letter smh

  • Erick

I personally think this is stupid to make a big deal of. He didn’t diss or say anything bad about emett he just used what happend to him as a reference. That is all. He’s a rapper, that’s what they do and I think he shouldn’t have apologized but it’s whatever. No disrespect I’m just sharing my opinion

  • 2 Cents

I agree that line was ignorant on wayne part. But on the upside the kids who weren’t aware of till’s situation now know.

Oh and when 2 Chainz compared his black diamonds to the apartheid, nobody here said jack. IMO that’s just as serious if not more serious.

  • Capricorn Religion

    I mean. . . . . .

Can you image if Em had apologize for that Columbine line on “I’m Back”. Yes, it was bleeped out but, c’mon. We all knew what he was saying….

What I’m saying is, apologizing for what you say takes away more creative freedom everyday. Yes, it forces you to think more deeper creative wise but, it still limits you to what you can say

Was the line wrong? Of course without question but, I’m being a hypocrite myself because I’m okay with what Em said above ^. . . .

Bottom line is, Wayne should of stuck by his bullshit. Don’t “Apologize” now because you might lose some Money off this deal. Stand by your bullshit

  • Musikal

He said he ain’t trying to get dropped like Rick Ross lol.

  • The Facade

If Wayne had taken any time to study history he would never have said the line to begin with. He’s a sociopath, he doesn’t care about Emmitt Till and he doesn’t care about anybody else. If he thinks it will make him money, he will say it.

wayne saw rick ross get dropped and thought aw shit i better get my shit together

i dont even think wayne personally wrote that himself LOL that nigga got his people to do it

  • Donn

Wayne has a degree in Psychology. He can pen letters like this. U letting his image and songs get to u. Y’all just don’t like the dude so u can’t wait to tear him down. He apologized, changed the lyric. Move on. Why are we so quick to tear down artists who are part of a culture that is already been through alot. Like Wayne or not, he is part of the culture and a driving force alongside the greats. Ppl tear down Jay, Kanye, TI, etc. u can’t wait to see ur fellow black men broke and careerless. It’s cool to not like some music, cus the carter 4 was trash. But I still respect a dude who just wants to express himself through his lyrics, feed his fam and do what he loves. All rappers make questionable lyrics

  • Diggz

So is people about to act like kanye west and kendrick lamar used emmitt till in the same context. Rap fans are such hypocrites I swear

  • nijea

They’re just trying to get some money. I wouldn’t have apologized, but that’s just me tho.

  • your mom

    THiS. iS. BULLSHiiiiiiT.

The first amendment exists for a reason, even if ppl don’t use it wisely!

Might as well go after every artist, ever, that has endorsements, cuz of lyrics… What is the world coming to!!

As for Wayne’s lyric, he substituted murder/kill/smash etc for the young boy’s name – not condoning what took place. BiG difference.

RiP to the dearly departed, and at such a young age 🙁

If anything the family should recognize that, although tasteless, most of the younger generation might do some research and learns themselves about said event, and it’s place in America’s sad sad history (that still exists, in the south, today). See Mississippi ratifying the 13th amendment 147 yrs later!!

  • chino

the hip hop police is coming to get yall

  • @BlueScalise

Wayne was ready to get Rossed!!!!

  • Wayne does not have a college degree. He took a few courses at UH and dropped out. And whether or not you have a college degree, you’re a dummy if you believe he wrote this letter of apology himself.

  • the brain trust

    What did I say?

I knew the laughable Ross controversy would have severe consequences on this genre.

A new era of censorship & policing in hip hop is around the corner

  • I can’t stand people bringing up the fact that he went to college. Fist cause he didn’t. He applied for an online course and there’s no evidence that suggests that he finished the course let alone got a degree. Second, how much value do you put into an online degree? Third, it doesn’t matter how educated you THINK lil wayne is. Every moron can see that he did not write this. Every moron can see that this is statement was only put out after the Till family went after lil wayne’s Mountain Dew endorsements. And every moron can deduce that he put out this statement because he saw the consequences (Rick Ross and Reebok) that goes with not properly responding to complaints such as these.

  • Reblogged this on thehiltonburnellfiles and commented:
I really don’t know what to say about this one but no comment.

  • _R

This like 3rd time he used Emmett till in a song like this too,,, you only can hope people get educated through this and continue to find out his story

  • your mom

ps – where were they for his swizzy remix “Beating up your block, yeah I get my Emmett Till on”

  • Mulato Gato

Fuck this Gremlin lookin Nigger. He doesn’t know the definition of philanthropic let alone being able to spell it. Hope Mountain Dew Rick Ross his ass! Would like to see that a corporation that wants to attach itself to the culture respects the race that created it as much as Reebok did women

  • Tron

Dew wont drop him.. and its just lyrics… Does Leonardo dicaprio lose sponsors when he shouts the word “nigger” 50 times in a movie???? Nah.. cause its entertainment and art…. So music that people create is art so they should be allowed.. Its called freedom of speech. Its so funny that that family thinks they are some great heros and have “worked so hard for our freedom” yet they dont understand “freedom of speech”.. That poor boy was the hero and suffered more than they could ever imagine… Notice how its a lawsuit not just trying to get them to drop Wayne??? Cause they use that young mans name to get bread. SImple as that…

  • Real

Mountain Dew more so than Wayne himself put out this apology his tour is sponsored by DEW Wayne could get another tour sponsor in seconds but Dew wont get another artist as big as Wayne that can tour right now and sellout shows

  • thats pic says it all

  • Oh

You can’t be serious rappin something like this… speechless.

  • Oh

So Emmet Till is a pussy???????????????????

Dude completely lost touch with reality obviously.

  • Dashing

@B.Dot, fam, you need to update this story. The Till family rejected his statement and said it was not an apology. And if you read the carefully worded statement, there is, in fact, no apology.
