Jay-Z Magna Carta Holy Grail Tops Charts

Jay-Z-performing-on-the-Main-Stage-at-the-Yahoo-Wireless-Festival-2052418

Numbers don’t lie—or do they? Despite Billboard not counting Jay-Z’s million seller, the tangible edition of Magna Carta Holy Grail has sold approximately 528,208 copies. If the number holds up, this will mark Hov’s 13th number one album. Watch out Paul, John, George, and Ringo; he’s on your ass. Pause. Final tally tomorrow.

UPDATE:  527,000 copies sold. Oh, what a feeling!

lmao stupidest statement I’ve seen on this site in weeks.

must be maybach O that left this.

  11. JOHNYblaze says:

Yea this is a glorified Novelty hiphop POP album!

DEF has its dopeness in it but overall the content and “deepness” considering its named after worldly documents, its very topical and surface scratching.

Its super PRETENTIOUS and when compared to even other 2013 releases from artists whove been out as long as Jayz this shit is mediocre, well promoted and hyped marketing shit.

  12. bumpy johnson says:

gave away a million copies still sold 528,000 ………….. but he always sells around these numbers every album first week ………. congratz again hovi …….and dope album ……..

  13. M.T says:

And next week he’s gonna do 200-300k

  16. Devante says:

And what’s funny everyone said made that deal with Samsung because he was afraid the album was gonna flop..

  17. anzorforever says:

@B.Dot what do u think about the album?

  18. The Brain Trust says:

The Gifted is better than MCHG. Nothing particularly strange about such a statement.

Personally thought the album was extremely disappointing. Filled with tedious financial boasts (which lacked the razor sharp flow, wit & wordplay of Jay in his prime), well worn subject matter & production which was largely serviceable, but not outstanding (with a few exceptions).

The title also gives the album an undeserved sense of worldly importance & relates VERY LITTLE to the songs on offer.

I’m also not surprised that my views are in line with the views of professional critics (who have panned the project).

  19. realtalkbru says:

    troof ….

hmmm we will see about that if drake can beat hov…

  21. $arcastic A$$hole says:

Even if he were to pass the Beatles, he would never be as big and influential as they were. EVER!

Numbers don’t lie, but they sure as hell could be misinterprete…

  22. JT says:

The Cd was ok. The production/ beats is what held the whole album together. Other then that, same flow, same song and dance.. 3/5

  23. bumpy johnson says:

@ THE BRAIN TRUST ……. is that your opinion or u tryin to put your comment above everything else ……… because every jay post I come across … u keep typin the same comment .over and over …wats up with that ……………

  24. JR1987 says:

  29. michelle michelle says:

White media hated this album but loved Yeezus, I liked them both.

Oh well, since number don’t lie I guess Hov wins again…check the scoreboard.

  30. creo says:

^Wtf @yoddle Foh yo! Must be smoking rocks. Hov album was gd not great. I wasnt disappointed cuz my expectations werent high. The black album n american gangster were the last ones i enjoyed. I miss the witty word play n deeper subject matter. Album wasnt trash or wack just 2much expensive taste talk n simply flow hov the hardcore fans not use 2.

  31. Supreme Farrakhan says:

It’s very good album. Music taste is individual, my fave tracks are Heaven, F.U.T.W., Jay Z Blue, FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt. Jay-Z takin’ Hip Hop to the whole another level!

  32. Yoddle says:

Yea a level of disgrace. He is not hungry anymore. which he does not need to be in his eyes. He is rich as hell. He needs to retire. Zimmerman For President!

  35. The Brain Trust says:

    @ bumpy johnson

lol The last time I commented on the album, I made a few different points actually.

And yeah, on a Jay-Z post, where the quality of Jay-Z’s latest album is being discussed, I felt my comment was appropriate.

Of course it’s MY opinion (i’m the one typing after all), but my criticisms aren’t exactly pulled out of thin air. Everything i’ve said is backed up by the actual music.

  48. Philly'sBestKeptSecret says:

He got a tight expensive shirt and skinny jeans on!! That album was completely trash. Kanye and Jigga lost they swag. The machine is behind this shit they’re trying there hardest to kill hip hop. Anyone who liked this shit is desperate for a hit. He is a good business man but a great artist never he knows it and the world shows it. There is way more than 500,000 people in the world, with u being in the game as long as him with all that promotion that shit should have sold more than that. It’s over for these cat !!!

  54. Izzy-ballin says:

  55. yep says:

@ izzy ballin what album are u listening to right now …that u find is dope ………

  56. LUCIFER says:

THOUGH NOT HIS BEST ALBUM IT IS A GOOD ALBUM. IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS THAT THIS WAS MADE FOR THE MAINSTREAM AND JAY-Z DID A GOOD JOB OF MAKING SURE THAT HIS ORIGINAL FANBASE CAN APPRECIATE IT. THE PRODUCTION IS GOOD AND ITS AN OVERALL SOLID BODY OF WORK. WILL IT WIN A GRAMMY FOR BEST ALBUM? PROBABLY NOT. BUT WHAT IT DID DO WELL WAS PUSH UNITS. IN TWO WEEKS YOU HAVE OVER 1.5 MILLION UNITS SOLD. THIS IS THE RECORD BUSINESS WHERE THE GOAL IS TO SELL RECORDS. IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW THEY’RE SOLD AS LONG AS THE PRODUCT SHIPS OUT AND THE MONEY COMES IN. IN THE INTERNET AGE RECORD COMPANIES AND ARTISTS HAVE TO INNOVATE TO FIND NEW WAYS TO MOVE UNITS. GENIUS MARKETING EFFORT BY THESE GUYS. #NEWRULES

  59. The Real Truth says:

@troof so sorry to bust your bubble but 50 did it twice and sold more then Wayne did and did it in fewer days lol

  60. Already wrote about this album & how overhyped it was.

I respect that Jay Z realizes he can’t put an album out on based on his own name. He needs a cell phone ad or reuse the “Blueprint” legacy or a popular movie coming out etc.

Either way, to TRY to compare Jay Z to the Beatles is beyond hilarious.
    Keep stanning B. Dot.
You’ll get your backstage pass at the JT/Jay Z show and take another pic w/Jay smiling like the groupie you are. smh

so much for unbiased journalism…..oh , just kidding. B. Dot isn’t a journalist.

    Album is a 7 , at BEST.

    @p0is0nedkoola on twitter
How cute you “blacked out” your name , Jay. You’re an original…or not

  61. Hip-Hop says:

goddamn @p0is0nedkoola take b-dot dick out your mouth. im starting to think ur jealous of the fact that he hangs out with jayz or something. i saw how u were fiending to have jayz respond to u on twitter to no avail. face it, ur just another opinion that doesnt count.

  62. bumpy johnson says:

    @ hip hop lmaooooooooooooo

  63. troofa says:

rocnation definitely bought about 300k. i would too its common practise duh!

  64. ncprecise says:

No single. Gives away a million copies. Still sells 527k… and ppl r still hating smh

  65. Pridd says:

    That’s 1.5 Mil sold n a weeks time……. #Salute

  66. vurbz says:

whoever said the gifted was better than born sinner, mchg and yeezus was absolutely fucking right!….jigga is that dude but the gifted was truly a work of art…but its not about competition but if it were WALE got this summer down cold…every track was quality, there was no filler at all

  67. Splah says:

Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP” sold 1.76 million in it’s first week.. Stop trying Jay. You had to reach out to a billionaire dollar company and they still picked up your shit for $5 a piece.

  68. JHP says:

Jay-Z needs six #1 albums to tie the Beatles, seven to surpass them. So either he’ll have to drop an album every year until he’s 50, or drop 2 albums for the next 3 years, and then another after that to break their record. I wonder if he’ll do it, that’d be an epic accomplishment for a rap artist to make. Anyway, those are fantastic first week numbers, his highest in 7 years. I’m almost surprised since he didn’t have any singles out, and one million people got it for free. Anyway, it’s a great album to me, his 4th best in my opinion. I don’t see what about it warrants the hate it’s getting from some. “Oceans”, “Heaven”, “Jay-Z Blue”, and “Nickels and Dimes” are 4 of the most substance heavy songs I’ve heard this year. The album may not contain his best lyricism ever, but it’s still pretty damn good, better than most of the shit I’ve heard this year. And while I like Wale, your tripping on something if you think The Gifted is better.

  71. Jay-Z Fan says:

like how many people on here can say they really have an hard copy of this album?
