Drake On “Hold On, We’re Going Home”

Yesterday, Drake released his new track, “Hold On We’re Going Home“. At his OVO Fest, Drake spoke with MTV on how the record came about and its sound.

It’s me and 40 just channeling our Quincy Jones/Michael Jackson production duo. Obviously no offense to the greats, I know we’re not anywhere near that — it’s just us kinda doing our thing, humbly attempting.”

It’s not a rap record. It’s not ‘Versace,’ it’s not ‘Started From the Bottom‘. In approaching this album I was like man, it would be great if we had a record that was played at weddings in 10 years or that people that are away from their families in the army could listen to. Something that just [has] timeless writing, timeless melody. So I did it with the group that we signed to OVO called Majid Jordan.

Majid is singing on the record with me and Jordan is his production partner. It’s a great record. I’m nervous and excited and all these things about it. I’ve never really put out a record like this before, so we’ll see how it goes.

All these artist trying to copying someone else’s sound in the past. Robin Thicke jacking Marvin Gaye,
Justine Timberlake, Drake, and Chris Brown jacking Off the Wall. In the words of DMX, “DO YOU!”

Beat/Production is nice, vocals/content is forgettable.

If it was some pop artist then fair enough but for someone who just won best RAP?! album at the grammys and who is so sensitive about being called an RnB singer, I just dont get why he would drop this as a single before the album lands and invite the heckles.

  6. hooo says:

Weak song…weak song..its like he is not putting effort in this album

Drizzy is that first Quaterback with the read option in the game. You feel me! Nigga sings and raps – that makes him unpredictable. There are people who like him singing/throwing more and people who wanna see the nigga run/rap! But at the end of the day he will always use both – and thats what makes Drake the best QB in the rap game! Hope you the point!

Of course a comment section on a hip hop website will think that ‘hold on’ is garbage.. because its not hip hop!

Why do you have to Drake in a box? He doesn’t have to do JUST hip hop.. He can do whatever the fuck he wants.. That’s why everybody likes him, because he’s different special..

There’s a million rappers you never heard of because they all do the same rap shit everybody else does. That’s not special.

You know Drake can rap and sing. He does both well and could have a successful career doing either. The fact that he’s got both is just like an RGIII (@West West). Deadly on the run or the pass! Pick your poison!

So ya, on this hip hop site, when he place drake in the hip hop box, ‘Hold On’ sucks as a song.. But when we go into the real world where these boxes don’t exist, its just great music man! A classic, timeless tune!
