Kendrick Lamar Disses Drake In BET Cypher

Are we going to hear a reply for it?

Before the BET Hip-Hop Awards air on the 15th, AllHipHop got their hands on a portion of Kendrick’s verse from the TDE’s cypher. Due to the reference below, many believe the bars are aimed at October’s Very Own.

“Yeah.. and nothing’s been the same since they dropped ‘Control’/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes / Ha ha the joke’s on you, high five.. I’m bulletproof/ Your shits a never penetrate, pin the tail on the donkey boy you been a fake”

  8. The Association of Chronos says:

This is only going to make Drake look like the winner. I always felt that after the “Control” verse his best move was to just let the record die away and focus on just making music….
    Now…
I have no problem with throwing little darts here and there to show that the verse wasn’t just a way at trying to get attention but, at the same time I wouldn’t want to see Kendrick to start looking like Joe Budden while Drake plays the Jay-Z role.
All Drake has to do now is just ignore him and win without doing a thing. Jay even addresses this in the “Light up” verse. Play it cool and come out on top without so much as a word being uttered…
Can’t wait to hear the verse of course but, to quote one of the greatest to ever do it on a small screen:
    “Tread Lightly” Kendrick

    1. Guest says:

Drake, here’s how they gon’ come at you

  10. Wow says:

Drake won’t give this kid the satisfaction of a diss and he shouldn’t… Everybody yelling competition but this kid pulled a sucka move by dissing niggaz he cool point blank period..how do we forget he was buddy buddy with these nigaz until he got to where he needed to be Lil kim once said “they suck cock just to get to the top”.. its like dissin your homeboy to a female “he my boy but i’m better that him”… and after all of these reponses you reply to Drake who didnt respond on the week he has the #1 album in the country… This is a str8 promo stunt at this point…Anybody with any morals on a street level understands how this move was some sucka shit… im pretty sure these pro k dot commenters are 21 and under

    1. thatcustommadehiphop says:

      You are a cornball…
When did kdot diss anyone in control? Lol did you listen to the song? Oh and. I’m in my 30s lame

      1. Wow says:

ok gangster! so your ok with Kendricks move then fine… in a nutshell that wouldnt work on my block if it does on yours then cool…says alot about someones character, just like the level on emotion in your post

        1. LBC562 says:

On your block? Haha ur gay

        2. thatcustommadehiphop says:

          I

          1. Wow says:

As a man, i dont see how going at someone who helped your career
is cool EVER, Had GKMC flopped we would have not got a
control verse bcuz he would have wanted to secure those
relationships that may help him in the future…its the reason
jayz, nas, andre and em got props on the verse he may need them
later as they are the contemporary rap gods
and once he feels he doesnt need them he will send shots there as well…
when a verse like control is written you know some feathers will be ruffled
so your consciously saying whoever feel a way fuck it or do something about it…
That’s a dis or disrespect in my opinion to answer your question
so when i say on my block im in brooklyn
btw maybe the west coast is different but i feel like a niga do some shit
like that i cant fuck wit you, and nigaz in my hood wont fuck with you like that either
simply because you cant be trusted because you doing shit fake nigaz do. Jay said
“Drake, here’s how they gon’ come at you
With silly rap feuds, trying to distract you
In disguise, in the form of a favor
The Barzini meeting, watch for the traitors” and The Ojays once said “They smile
in your face, All the time they want to take your place” you know the rest…
Bottom line is Drakes response was he felt it was corny because then you see
me the next week and its all love…

    2. Word says:

Except K.dot never DISSED any of those guys in the first place. He basically issued a call to arms. Everyone step your game up because i’m coming hard this year. Thats ALL it was. It was NOT a diss and nobody really took it as one except dudes irrelevant to the matter. Him and Cole still cool. Him and Wale cool. Drake is the only dude that got sensitive about it and went on CRWN, Angie Martinez, and other shows to essentially cry about being targeted.

They can all still be cool with each other. Lebron and KD work out in the summer right? But if it comes down to the championship, did Bron not hesitate to beat him? Same situation IMO. Its like Bron saying “Aye KD, Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Howard, I love yall but im winning EVERY championship from now on”. Others should say “Okay, cool, I respect that but i’ll do everything to prevent it.” Thats how I see it.

      1. Wow says:

Lol @ it being a call to arms! alot of people having been reasoning it that way and the question i ask is what exactly was wrong with Hip Hop in 2013 that a call to arms was needed? it’s in a wonderful space because of all the dudes he mentioned…Cole had a great album, wale as well, pusha t, and drake and sean as well….its like niga make your second album and let the fans decide who is there guy… i honestly think he wanted to be in the convo since his GKMC(great album btw) was getting old in this new microwave era we are in… Did Drake Cry? he was asked by both Ellioit and Angie during his promo run or NWTS so he responded… I get the basketball thing but isnt it all about the rings at the end of the day…. KD can say i play better than lebron but until he has the chips, he just talkin

        1. Word says:

I agree there was nothing wrong with the rap game in 2013. Flawless year in my opinion. And maybe you’re right, all these great albums came out and GKMC is almost a year old and perhaps Kendrick still wanted to remind folks he was here. I don’t have a problem with that. That Control verse, whether you know the lyrics or are still listening to it (dunno why Drake brought that up like it matters), it STILL brought more hype than some albums this summer.

And Drake didn’t cry but he didn’t have to go so personal with it. In all honesty he seemed VERY hurt. “I lost respect” “I’ll never work with him again” Damn dude he got you THAT tight? Unnecessary IMO. And to my sports reference: KD (Kendrick) can say “Hey, THIS is my year. Rose, CP3, Harden, Bron, Love yall but its all me this year!” Competition, I love it. But if Bron (Drake) were to say “Man I dunno, I lost respect for the guy. Don’t think I’ll ever work with him in the offseason again.” That’s just taking things overboard. Respond by NOT letting him take over. Period. Continue to step your game up.

      2. Sam Robilotta says:

I agree here he never did diss before, this sounds like a diss though.

Hold up! Is this the IQ of the average Drake fan? How could you not understand what the guys above told you? At first I really didn’t want to be the one explaining, but thought about it just had to say something. Couldn’t leave you all dumb here.
When Ja was at the top, 50 came at him and got bigger, period.
Drake is according to you “at the top” so when Kendrick go at him, people want it to turn out as the 50vsJa scenario. And in this case they feel like Kendrick is 50, and Drake Ja Rule. I don’t know how this can’t be written more dumbed down for you. And they didn’t even compare Kendrick and Drake with 50 and Ja music wise either. If you don’t understand this time, don’t even bother answering.

          1. Sam Robilotta says:

what was that cluster fuck of a reply?? I said the game is sick and you came up with this? So DRAKE is Ja Rule? So this dude says drake is ja rule and I’m suppose to agree with that bullshit? Did you even see he wasn’t even talking about drake he was talking about Papoose. 50 Straight up said Jas name, where does Kendrick say Drake? Get your facts straight before coming on here actin like you are a hip hop genius or some shit. Kendrick may have said one line about Drake and you compare him to 50 and ja rule? YOU ARE FUCKING BUGGING RIGHT?? Were you around back then? I bet you were in grade school. 50 had 25 songs about Ja, and 50’s whole crew went at him. That comment still makes no sense. But thanks for waiting 2 months for your reply it was entertaining to say the least. And don’t act like it’s annoying for you to have to comment and “explain”, no one asked for your bullshit opinion anyway.

Drake is a great rapper. Im just tired of him sneak dissing niggas he do music with. SAY SOME NAMES DRAKE.

  14. OG TRIPLE OG TRIPLE says:

I don’t get why folks think drake is gonna respond.. Drake helped kendrick tremendously by putting that buried alive verse on take care… where kendrick basically was saying he was cool with drake… competition is one thing but kendrick seems bitter… maybe drake fucked sherane

    1. Top5iveAlive says:

insinuations my friend, But I am not a Drake fan to say the least I actually think he is gay. But this wasn’t necessary on KDots. part. Kdot needs to stop bullying Drake let the little guy do what he does.

  15. Hannibal Lecture says:

Drakes to soft even females thinks hes too sensitive. This would help boost Drakes testosterone level but Kendrick will pick that gay nigga apart. Whoever sain KDot is jealous of Drake is bitchmade the playing field is even.

  16. Fistacuffs says:

Anybody else think this could be about Papoose? That Ha Ha line matches with the tee hee hee line.

    1. Odot says:

Nah, he says “Nothing’s been the same.” No coincidence

      1. Fistacuffs says:

        Yeah, fuck. Good point.

  17. LSSN says:

Something must be going on behind the scenes that no one knows about, because that’s low from Kendrick..
I still think Kendrick is the best rapper alive, but I just lost a lot of respect for him.. Drake put you on his Club Paradise-tour and his album to help promote you.. and you even had him on one of the leading singles for your own album.. And then when you get where you wanna be you just talk shit about a guy who helped you get to where you are for no reason?? Drake might be soft, but that’s truly a bitch move..
    If it’s even in fact a Drake-diss, cause I’m not so sure…

    1. Word says:

Look, Drake did A LOT for Kendrick, true. But don’t ignore what Drake said in response to Control because THATS why Kendrick fired off like this. “He’s not killing me on any platform period. I lost respect for him. I’ll never work with him again”. And then Drake’s verse on “The Language” was so obviously a shot at K.Dot “I am the KID you should be worried ’bout” among other things. The verse wasn’t to be taken so personal. This is mild from K.Dot compared to what he should’ve said for all Drake has said in response.

  19. Hussle says:

  20. Dashing28 says:

It’s not a record. It’s a line. It’s not direct. It’s akin to what Drake did on The Language, except even less since it’s not even a song, it’s just a freestyle.

This isn’t beef. And, no, Drake won’t respond. If he does, it will be subliminal, like the jabs to G.O.O.D Music have been.

It’s good to see Kendrick being one of the most discussed rappers of the year when he hasn’t even dropped an album, or even a mixtape. Considering that nearly every big rapper in the game has an album this year (Jay, Wayne, Yeezy, Drake, Pusha, Wale, Tyler, Earl, ASAP Rocky, Mac Miller, J Cole, Big Sean, Busta Rhymes, Eminem) it’s a pretty big feat to still be one of the most talked about.

On another note, where are all the old RR commenters?? This new format has made everyone disappear.

i feel this would be a great beef. Drake and Kendrick are two of the most lyrical rappers in the game right now. Only time will tell if anything spawn from this.

  40. Mr. A From The T says:

This is all just weird to me. I understand beef is an everlasting platform in hip hop. But this is just off coming from Kendrick. I was there for that CP tour seeing kendrick and a$ap for the first time, and that undoubtedly won them exposure like it was supposed to, drake explained that in the crwn episode too. A$ap owns up to it in 1train, and it doesnt make you an absolute bitch to say somebody helped you out, but if you get questioned on it, say yeah but im here now and im not letting the ball drop. Drakes not running around saying he created these guys, but to anybody that disagrees he wasn’t part of their resonance, the charts of last year aren’t going to lie to you. Just my personal take on control; kendrick might as well leaked his verse the day he laid it down because it was over from that point, it was gonna blow minds whatever day it seen light. All drakes saying that it was a moment and definitely a stake in the ground for kendrick but that, “umm im here for my junior album, so no, i really dont want to give this much attention. im not here to take all my time talking about how i feel on a throwaway cut with my name in it.” And i can probably assume that worst behavior is gonna be the new hype song the kids listen to when mcdonalds get your order wrong. I’m a guy that looks at the big spectrum of what state we’re at with the game, gives credit to all its “starters” whether they’re my favorites or not. But this coming from kendrick is just distasteful. I love both of these guys as artists, drake just happens to be the one i click with more. But before you call drake sensitive, look how far kendricks taking this after one guy is saying he’s not going to pay attention to it anymore.

    1. Wow says:

Exactly! i guess that’s some west coast shit. The Game did it to 50 as well.

    2. Dsunn says:

distasteful???? damn the game done changed. you kids are on some bish shit

    3. eastpointvet says:

lol but kendrick verse on control wasnt a diss it was a these are my peers and im cool with them but if we on a track im trying to out rap them its simple as that. Drake the one that threw darts in interviews saying he is not better than me in anything. had he not been so loose in interviews im sure kendrick wouldnt have took shots at him in his freestyle. u cant throw rocks and hide your hands.

  41. fox says:

Jay warned Drake on “Light Up” that this would happen. “Drake, here’s how they gon come at you, with silly rap fueds trying to distract you, in disguise in the form of a favor, the Barzini meet, watch for the traitors.” I actually hope Drake responds because he has bars whether you purists admit it or not.

  42. Hip Hop needs BEEF says:

KDot=overrated and Drake=EMO…..Should be interestng to watch nothing happen.Drake will not respond.

  43. Matt says:

Don’t Sleep on Drake nigga, he did body Common on Stay Schemin

  44. KingBrown says:

Drake caught feelings about the control verse and said he lost respect for Kendrick. So this is what he gets in return. He shoulda stayed quiet.

  45. _R says:

Drake made this happen Kendrick did control and who knows if it was even supposed to ever come out that’s big sean record but the point was to make everybody step up lyrically and musically not in no fuckin interviews and here comes heartbreak drake bitchin about it every chance he got he better be quiet because he’s way more Ja Rule than 50

  46. Word says:

This is like in Football when you always catch the second guy committing a penalty, but not the one who started it.

Everyone is getting on K. Dot. He said his peace on Control but DRAKE responded not once, not twice, but at LEAST 3 times in THREE separate interviews after the fact. BILLBOARD “Hes not killing me on any platform period” CRWN “I lost respect for him after that verse” ANGIE MARTINEZ “I’ll never work with him again”. Not to mention the obvious subliminal jabs on “The Language” on NWTS. Kendrick responds with a 15 second response and he’s wrong?? Yall kill me.

    1. thatcustommadehiphop says:

      Chuuuuchhh

    2. 7thEmerson says:

Regardless, did he have to respond in such a way? Did he HAVE to respond period? He could’ve said I’d rather not talk about that track. It was a good moment but the moment is passed and I’m here to discuss my album. Simple. And he still sent shots on The Language. Nobody twisted his arm into doing that.

        1. ShatteredWorld says:

But Drake even confirms that he wasn’t aiming at Kendrick on The Language….soooo…

          1. Word says:

            Link?

And just because someone said he’s not aiming at him doesn’t mean wasnt.

          2. ShatteredWorld says:

            In the CRWN interview, basically.

      4. Word says:

YOOO! Check out this artist ROCxNOIR video on YouTube called OH LORD! Crazy song and visuals! TRUST ME THIS GUY IS UP NEXT!

  48. Realistically says:

Ask yourself this question: would these lyrics have the same impact if they were spoken by another rapper? Probably not. The lyrics presented are really subpar – inflated by hype. And what are we all hype about? The fact that Kendrick Lamar, an artist who is 1) lyrically beastly, 2) well-respected, 3) current, and 4) not doing PR because he has no album on the horizon – is boldly going after the throne that Drake sits on.

It is a worthy battle. For once, this isn’t about personal beef or trying to sell records – this about the skill and the art of hip-hop: who is the current champion? I would love for Drake to respond, but he has to be very calculated about how he does, because any response would only result in more exposure for Kendrick. Drake is really the only one with something to lose here.

But I’m looking forward to it. Come October 15, when we see the whole thing, there will be a lot of pressure on Drake to respond. Everyone will be watching, listening. And when Kendrick gets the upper hand (which I am predicting he will), I can’t wait to see if he’s balls enough to keep going – after Kanye, after Jay-Z – to really solidify himself as the greatest. Ali wouldn’t stop. Neither would Pac.

    1. j1 says:

I agree completely. Both are extremely talented artist but people want to see Drake lose no matter what. Kendrick is very hyped and slightly overated at this time bcuz there aren’t many pure lyricist in the game right now. Drake’s got more pressure than anyone right now so he’s gotta come out with somethin dope or he’s gonna have even more hate for no reason.

  49. Sam Robilotta says:

  50. MellyMel says:

You people keep acting like this is a dirty act from Kendrick and that Drake helped promote him early on so he owes something to him. We have no idea what’s going on between these two people and friendships change that’s just how it is. Kendrick has the Crown. Drake has the Radio

  51. RE Junior says:

If Drake learned anything from Jay, its to turn a deaf ear to a potential lyrical beatdown -if he doesn’t you know…wanna get ethered.

  52. brza says:

not a fan of the new Kendrick. he seems almost spiteful at this point. rap feuds are inevitable but these two didn’t come into the game this way so it throws me off a bit. hopefully Kendrick will keep it positive and not turn into another disgruntled rapper (and yes after this shot it’s quite clear that this was a diss)

  53. Nathaniel says:

niggas like “drake has done sooooooo much for kendrick.” i get it. but real shit… what was kendrick doing up to the point that niggas started hearing poetic justice? which was when GKMC dropped. you think drake was trying to make kendrick a star with that feature? tnah… he was trying to inject himself into the massive buzz kendrick had, primarily. and kendrick made the song. drake just laid a verse. it’s a dope record with no drake involved. and if he hadn’t even been on the song, none of us could have avoided GKMC and the impact, critical acclaim, and how it was in everybody’s mouth when it dropped. so don’t get carried away acting like drake is the reason kendrick is successful… that’s just down right disrespectful to the talent, years of work, team, and artistic ability + brand of kendrick.

reminds me of what kendrick said about niggas thinking dr. dre “gave” him anything. what song was that? a joint on section.80 right?

All in all tho Drake gone win regardless o cause the same people that come up the these “drake the type” comments gone bump his album. It’s time for the Mind to chime in….a lot of you young dude are drama queens for REAL. I’m a fan of both artists…but Drake took it the wrong way and felt some kinda way, tried to sneak diss and got faded….period, point blank! Drake is dope…but on the real as a cat who work in the music biz and been listening to rap for over 20+yrs if you dudes think Drake better than Kendrick BAR 4 BAR…you gots to jokin. Drake is better off NOT responding because on some lyrical shit, I don’t think he can hang with Kendrick OR Cole…

Yeah we know Drake makes better radio records…but he don’t make better introspective or though provoking records. I don’t think Drake has written a RECORD (NOT A SONG, A RECORD…learn the difference before you reply) better than Kendrick’s “Sing About Me, Dying Of Thirst”….that’s one of the realest songs I’ve EVER heard, so poignant, descriptive and well written. I’d challenge anyone on this thread to give me a Drake song REALER than that.

Back the lecture at hand….both issued warning shots, it just so happen that Kendrick shot his with a bigger and louder gun. Someone said in this thread its like a sports penalty where the player flagged is called for the penalty but the ref didn’t see the player who initiated the foul…that’s this situation.

Also, cat is acting like Drake PUT Kendrick on…he did indeed give him a larger platform but if I recall Kendrick had 2 albums before meeting Drake. When he was on tour with Drake WHAT MATERIAL DO YOU THINK HE WAS PERFORMING?? This was way before GKMC. Steel sharpens steel, so these 2 young gunners going at it can be good for the culture…it won’t spill over to no street shit bc one is REALLY protected by the streets and the other that’s not his M.O…..and we all know who’s who and what’s what.

  109. Facts says:

It’s apparent there was a jab at Drizzy but you’re an idiot since the lines directed at Papoose went over your head. K Dot is obviously addressing certain lines that was previously released by Papoose in his Control reaction. The media will always embellish shit like this.

People are getting so worked up on this lmao
I love both artists and both are dope as hell, but K. Dot can’t win this.
Drake is an INTERNATIONAL STAR! Drake truly doesn’t need to respond to this non sense, he’ll gain nothing while K. Dot will benefit.

  113. SPORT says:

This is a Diss to Papoose not Drake. Papoose took the diss the most personal, aka sensative rapper. Papoose says “You a fuking joke, we laugh at you like hee hee hee. Kendrick responds, “ha ha jokes on you” Papoose says “My bullets hit em’ dead in his cooty come out his booty” Kendrick responds, “I’m bullet proof, ya shits will never penetrate” Fact: they actually sell Papoose pajamas, google it

This is a diss to Papoose! how can people not notice this and pin this shit on drake? Go over Papoose’s control response to Kendrik and you’ll find the connnection!!!!

  116. Itz Yourz says:

I don’t know about yall….but the media is making you see what they want you see. So I will comment on what it look like to me. This freestyle about his control verse anit about Drake to me. Its about papoose. yeah he played on the words nothing was the same. But the rest of the freestyle is about Pap. Read btwn the lines.

Now…If Im wrong, then Drake need to heed the advice Jayz been dropped on him “Drake, heres how they gon come at you With silly rap feuds trying to distract you
In disguise in the form of a favor The Barzini meeting, watch for the traitors”.
Kendrick to talent to go this route just do your music. Be remember by that…not by this.

  117. Brown Sparta says:

Where the hell are the clips from the show DAAAAAMN!?

  118. kdcoke says:

Drake didn’t make Kendrick cause he been had buzz. People fail to remember the fact that Drake boosted Kendrick not only when he gave Kendrick that spot on Take Care but when he did that feature for him on poetic justice. Never bite the hand that feeds you.

  119. cain45 says:

dude should of just said his name subliminal disses are corny if you going to diss someone just say his name

  120. Hagggf says:

Drake is too bad to go at a rapper like Kendrick

  121. The Truth Is says:

Why would Kendrick do subliminals now though…Why not call him out by name…You can’t be scared to now when you did it on Control

  122. Blackrushlimbaugh says:

*650000* 1st week sales kdot struggled to go platinum. It’s levels to this shit youngin!!!
