Kendrick On Grammys & Macklemore Win

Good Sport.

The folks at xxl caught up with Kendrick last night at Dom Kennedy’s concert and got his thoughts on last Sunday’s ceremony.

On Macklemore: “It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”

On Grammys: “I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

Macklemore is a bitch.why would you share the text? So people can see how great you are by saying that kendrick was indeed robbed? Stupid

    1. TRUTHHURTSALOT says:

and so ppl can be like “white ppl are so classy and nice” macklemore should just thank bob barker… rich kid!!!
and stop saying u did it independently… it is impossible to get ur music on the radio without the backing of a major label… major labels have a monopoly on mainstream radio… IMPOSSIBLE!!!

  2. Liv Profit says:

kendrick was nominated because the music was great. However he is not the role model the establishment wants to rep for the culture or for black and brown people. The grammys’ were more interested in pushing the LGTB agenda and Macklemore was the perfect vehicle for that. And Cracker friendly.

    1. truthhurts says:

exactly… kendrick so does not fit the profile of what black and brown ppl are supposed to look like according to mainstream media. blacks and browns are programmed on how to behave, make music and dress… kendrick is too, how do u say this… non- niggerish.
lgbt agenda is interesting because its not about equality, dont nobody care about wat u do behind closed doors… its about imposing beliefs on others…like religion

    2. yorapper says:

There isn’t an agenda man. There’s just music that more people like and music less people like. More people like Macklemore’s music than Kendrick’s music. That’s all.

      1. LuckyP757 says:

you sound crazy. MACKLEMORE, IS THAT YOU?!?

        1. yorapper says:

And you sound like you don’t how to count. Macklemore’s sold way more, has more youtube views, concert tickets sold and radio spins than Kendrick. THEREFORE more people like his music. These are real humans buying his music. That means more people. KENDRICK, IS THAT YOU?!?

          1. LuckyP757 says:

to say “there isn’t an agenda” is out of this fucking world. i like white people but reasonable ones and you aren’t in that category cracker. you know GKMC was better than any of that trash thrift shop faggot praising tunes macklemore could ever produce. the culture isn’t embracing that shit. y’all crackers always trying to fight your way into something or make one of yours the poster child of our shit

          2. MrSkeezyMakl says:

Yes, it’s blatantly obvious that you like crackers.

          3. LuckyP757 says:

            loves them motherfuckas

          4. yorapper says:

You’re the one that sounds out of this world. I’m not even white!

          5. RAAAAAAAANDY!!!! says:

But we’re talking about the Rap Album of the Year and The Heist didn’t sell WAY MORE than GKMC. After all of the radio play Macklemore and Ryan Lewis received across more Pop and Top-40 radio, YouTube plays, and single sales than Kendrick did, it still only sold about 130K more (both albums have platinum SALES). To me, that means that people found more value in the M&RL’s singles than the album, whereas the opposite could be said for K. Dot. Also, that theory is somewhat validated if you look at Metacritic in which GKMC received an average of 91 out 100 when you calculate the 36 reviews they accumulated versus the average 76 out of 100 for The Heist. GKMC as an album was validated and successful commercially and critically, which is the standards that the Grammys hope for and it didn’t reward it properly, in my opinion and the opinions of many other.

i always state that hip hop sucks because of numbers.

because of your logic, that means Justin Bieber is a better artist than The Beatles.

Macklemore is pushed by the machine.

Macklemore says he’s independent, but he was backed by Alternative Distribution Alliance, a part of Warner Music Group.

He has been backed the entire way. Radio and youtube spins are bought all the time by the person’s label.

You’re telling me no one is paying for Macklemore’s spins when he is “independent” on major radio stations, when artists like Drake Rihanna Kendrick and every one else does?

The man is being used to push an agenda. Just look at the Grammy performance any idiot can see it.

Dude is dressed like a pastor behind stained glass scenery preaching to the crowd about gay marriage and marrying 33 couples on stage. Why perform a slow ballad like song like Same Love at the Grammys when you have smash hits like Thrift Shop & Can’t Hold Us?

            I listened to Macklemore’s album, and it’s hot I can’t front, I like it.
I have no doubt that Macklemore wrote Same Love with genuine concern, but it is clear and even he knows some company is using him to push that agenda, just like they are doing to his career.

          7. yorapper says:

Kendrick does not have universal acclaim. “Universal acclaim” means everyone likes it. If everyone liked Kendrick’s album he would have more album sales, more views, and more concert ticket sales. He would also have a Grammy. More people like Macklemore’s music. That’s a fact proven by more people support his art.

Kendrick is on fucking Interscope, the biggest machine and puppeteer of them all. You’re telling me Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, can’t buy youtube views, press, and radio spins for Kendrick? Do you know how much Jimmy Iovine and Dre made last year alone of Beats By Dre?

You’re telling me Kendrick can’t hire the best directors to make the most beautifully shot videos imaginable? Please Macklemore destroys dude just on videos alone. And all Mack’s videos are made by and him and his friends.

And another thing Alternative Distribution Alliance, is owned by Warner, But they are not a record label. They are way for indepedent artists to get their albums in physical stores. Meaning the artist pays them to get their cd in store and Warner takes a cut. They are no different than Cdbaby and Tunecore.

          8. It's Just Music says:

people on this site don’t even know how to argue.

dude your arguement was that macklemore gets more numbers than kendrick.

Obviously both of them have the same resources but Macklemore is getting the start treatment by the machine.

If Macklemore didn’t pull the ‘gay card’ would he have won 4 fucking grammys. Does an “independent artist” winning 4 fucking grammys seem odd?

My question to you now is did you even hear both albums front to back?

I speak to tons of people about music ranging across different genres and not even the whitest people have spoke highly of Macklemore’s album, all the can bring up is Same Love because of the clear agenda he is pushing.

My closing statement, would Macklemore even get this far without Same Love and mocking christianity on a Grammy stage?

once again the dude has talent and his album was hot, but dude it was no way in hell better than Kendrick’s album.

If Kendrick made a song about gay rights just to have you guys talking about him instead of offering his view of the modern kid in a choatic and hopeless world, would he have won 4 Grammys?

          9. yorapper says:

The point isn’t that he made a song about gay rights, it’s the fact Mack made a great song with a great video. Tons of rappers have made songs about gay rights but they weren’t as good. In fact, many in the gay community don’t even like Macklemore because he’s a straight guy speaking on gay issues. They miss the point that he is not speaking to them, but speaking to straight people that are for gay rights.

If Kendrick made songs that touched as many people as Macklemore than he would have won a Grammy. It doesn’t matter how many people you talk to. You at most talked to 1000 people and that’s being generous.

People vote who they like with their wallets. Therefore more people like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis because they sold more albums, tickets, and merch.

          11. Elproblemo Djblast says:

read carefully this how the grammy pick there winners members may only nominate candidates and vote within their fields of expertise. Voters are trusted to vote objectively for the product up for nomination, ignoring information about album sales, chart performance, personal bias or obligations to a particular company or record label. Voters have five nominations to choose from in each category; the nominee who receives the highest number of votes wins the Grammy Award.

      2. Ryuk918 says:

The Grammys arent about how many albums are sold. they are (supposed to be) about the best body of work.

      3. Sina Mailer Daemon Djavadkhani says:

Well said, Kendrick may be more influential to the culture in the long run, but in the mainstream pop eye – Macklemore had more impact this year… I don’t agree but I understand it.

      4. Mike b says:

Drake album was the best anyway

    3. LuckyP757 says:

fam, the cracker friendly was dead on and that was it. that whole gay shit was icing on the cake being that most of those crackers, choosing the grammy winners snort coke and fuck with those of the same sex. we have to face it. anytime theres a white against a black in these situations, we’ll never win. people who we respect who represent our culture aint fucking with macklemore musically.

      1. whitehouseBen says:

That’s what kanye was trying to express in those interviews that everybody was clowning him for. It doesn’t matter how talented you are, how rich you are, or how true you are to the craft… Its all about how wealthy you are, what connections you have, and the role you play to the powers that be. Ye has the right idea…his delivery is just off. Kendrick was political in this response, knowing damn well he deserved that award. Funny how Macklemore can express that the grammys fucked up and K dot, knowing his place, can’t (Mack was being political too..the HipHop community needed him to say that) but hey, thats life. Hopefully K gets it next year and shits on the grammys.

      2. Ryuk918 says:

You’re a bigot and you don’t represent hip hop with your hateful opinion. you can make a point about white privilege without resorting to being a hateful fuck.

        1. LuckyP757 says:

nah im not a bigot, im a realist. i frequent RR. THEY WERENT EVEN FUCKING WITH MACKLEMORE until I’m sure, he stroked that check. In all seriousness, he aint touch this site until this last layout!! He’s not on any mix tapes, urban radio, rotation or mixshows, no ones booking him in these clubs so as i stated, the people who represent OUR culture aren’t fucking with him musically! I’m not pulling these facts out my ass

          1. Ryuk918 says:

dude. you had to go back an edit out the use of the word faggot to make yourself look like less of bigoty douche. that so telling in itself.

          2. LuckyP757 says:

            ZZZzzzzZZZZzzzZZZzz

MACKLEMORE or RYAN LEWIS IS THAT YOU?!? LMAOO man what in the fuck are you talking about? really.

    4. Jus sayin says:

And Cracker friendly?? Fuck is that supposed to mean??? Calling white people Cracker to some is the same as calling a black person ni*@er. So choose your words wisely homeboy.

      1. Liv Profit says:

I guess you don’t know what Cracker mean, white person.

    5. John Jay says:

A 100% agree…plus grammies are made for mainstream/white people first.
America has been built on discrimination, Irish were called n##gers when they first landed here.

  3. room2roam says:

dam dude. thats how he felt & he wanted to share it. soon men wont be able to do anything but walk around holding their nutz or they’ll run the risk of being called a b1tch or fagg0t. God forbid you have a feeling and you choose to share that.

  4. LikeJordan45 says:

Shoutout to my mans Manny for doing that interview, and shoutout to Kendrick’s graciousness

  5. Dan Karlin says:

I’m among those who thought Kendrick was more deserving of the award, though I did think ‘The Heist’ was a good album in its own right. Macklemore and Kendrick both were class acts with how it all turned out, and seem to genuinely respect one-another as artists, and that’s awesome and refreshing to see in this climate of Wale threatening publications and Kanye throwing public temper tantrums. And of course, RR commentors had to find some way to turn the whole thing negative. Goddammit, you guys.

      1. Dan Karlin says:

“This is hip hop”? Hip hop is entertainment, an art form, a means for people to express themselves and bring awareness to issues they care about, and if they’re lucky, make a living while doing so. By no means is it a good enough reason to die over. Like you said, Biggie and Pac are DEAD. Biggie, in particular, left a wife and kids behind. A lot of good staying “TRU TO THIS SHIT” did him, huh?

Also, 2Pac preached peace in several of his songs: “Unconditional Love”, “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Ghetto Gospel” immediately come to mind. So, that invalidates any point you may have had there.

Finally, why bring race into this shit? Seriously, dude? “Vanilla Ice Honkey”? Wait, nevermind; I forgot how racism is okay as long as it’s directed at white people.

Fuckouttahere. And learn how to write beyond a third grade level while you’re at it, will ya?

GKMC was a great hiphop album and so was the Heist….I hate that everybody is acting like Macklemore and Ryan Lewis didnt sell 18 million last yr and also, Same Love is the one of the most hiphop songs ive heard..wanna know why? because hiphop was based off songs pushing the culture forward and that song impacted.PERIOD. some might say he got the gay vote or its because he is white or whatever people say to keep racism and segregation alive but dont see here and act like Macklemore didn’t deserve that award.

      1. intelligentsoul says:

check the numbers. he had two singlse go 6x platinum and 1 go 3 or 4x platinum…and his album platinum

  7. RAKIM says:

    b dot….u a joke

  8. Donn says:

Its not that serious. Just make good music. I don’t need a fucking award to validate the good music I listen to. No one cares about your plaque, your award or your money. .Just make good music, we’ll buy it and keep it like that. Fuck all the extra shit…

  9. brza says:

that new Isaiah Rashad EP is out and no mention on here? it’s worth listening to

  10. trashman says:

Man Kendrick pussy. What’s up with all the political correct shit. Far from a leader. Too busybeing soft n emotional. Black men are long gone from hip hop. Thats why you have Macklemore taking your manufactured culture and every Black saying its ok or being surprised but not producing anything of substance. Hip hop is irrelevant anyway.

I’m sure you’re okay with a white man stealing your fake culture. Its for their profit anyway. Jewelry, clothes, private jets, high end hotels, cars, prisons, funeral homes, police. Who u think pays for it, and who u think profits. U guys are fools. U lost your knowledge for a dollar n deserve the bs for participating in and supporting the death n destruction of your own kind.

  11. trashman says:

Yall fans pussy too. Straight idiots. Respect the dollar more then yourself. Rappers too. The day Pac died I knew this would be the result. The absence of substance and a downward spiral. No more leaders. A bunch of non stable men with cash. Cant even fight. Fuck all yall.

  12. Oceans22 says:

    Just enjoy the music.
    W/e music you enjoy

  13. Sina Mailer Daemon Djavadkhani says:

Good sport indeed 😀 That’s how you handle it guys 😛

  14. badiddy says:

Its funny what the Grammy’s do. I found myself listening to music I may not have appreciated before…I.e. Macklemore. I listened to the album and not “speed through it” beyond the singles. Its actually a decent album and has texture to it. I think GKMC suffered from lack of exposure. The academy heard more of Macklemore last year and therefore voted on it relativity. Happens every year. The most exposure wins, not the best.

  15. jsmooth says:

Kendrick Lamar handled that like an adult and recogized the real.. it is wat it is, he’ll probably go harder and evolve in his craft too. Word is bond.

  16. Sicko says:

Kendrick aint trippin at all, all he can do is continue to push out good music. WTF he suppose to do? Beef with Macklemore because the Grammy’s don’t know shit about Hip Hop. First thing, Hip Hop need to stop looking for Approval of the Grammy’s and they ALL need to stop attending that BULLSHIT! That includes Jay Z! You see Eminem and Kanye did not go to that BULLSHIT, Jay Z shouldn’t be their either. I guarantee they start doing that and Ratings start going down the Grammy’s will come crawling back begging for Hip Hop Artist to come back.
