To kick off the 2014-2015 NBA season, the league licensed Kendrick’s single for their soundtrack. TNT has been previewing clips the past few days, but now, they officially roll out the full intro.

Not necessarily. It will always come down to execution of one’s message. In this case, his execution is subpar despite the great message. He’s delivered meaningful songs that came out better than this. The song just isn’t as good as most hoped for. Dude picked the wrong sample in the wrong year.

Dude is talented, no doubt, and this is an anthemic feel good song, they could have chosen much worse. Personally it does nothing for me. If you have to make a song for the pop machine he could have “compromised” a whole lot more, he made something uplifting, and poppy. Kudos. Of course it isn’t a classic lay in the cut, amazed by the jewels dropped, but then there is more to that in life isn’t there?
Imagine if they had chosen “Triumph” by the Wu for an NBA intro…”I bomb atomically, like Socrates philosophies, and hypothesis, can’t describe how I be dropping these mockeries…” Too much science for the minds of the deaf, dumb and blind.
