In my eyes, Voodoo is one of the best soul albums. I can’t wait for Black Messiah.

This song is absolute dog shit! Come on man… It sounds like he’s been listening to too many Prince b-sides. But he has the formula fucked up. Prince’s b-sides STILL had great songs (Erotic City, She’s Always In My Hair, Another Lonely Christmas, and more).

D’angelo thinks that making an 8 bar weak riff and singing a tragically unmemorable, unmelodic and barely audible vocal over it constitutes funk. It doesn’t!

From Parliament Funkadelic to Sly Stone to James Brown, every last one of those cats gave us great songs on top of funky jams.

I know all the D’angelo dicksnorters are out in full force saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but then sliced bread was probably overrated too. Play this song five times in a row, and on the fifth try and sing along to it… That’s how poor this effort is.

It isn’t even a Prince b-side, it sounds like a rough recorded of an after show party jam.

Adrian Younge’s ‘Something About April’ is at least sonically, the third album D’angelo was supposed to make.
