J.Cole was the latest guest on Combat Jack’s podcast. Jermaine spoke on his new album, relationship with Kendrick Lamar, incident with Diddy and tons more. Full synopsis and interview below.
In this episode, J. Cole details the inspiration behind ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’, his battle with expectations, wanting to sign Kendrick Lamar when they first met and his initial thoughts regarding the shots-ridden “Control” verse. Cole also talks the hip hop culture shift that inspired “Fire Squad”, consciously staying out of Drake’s lane while creating his own, what happened that eventful night with Diddy, visiting Ferguson, his new outlook on life and how he became a voice of his generation.

It’s great that Cole has the freedom now to be himself.. but lets not act like he would even be able to drop this album if he didn’t already have 2 successful albums WITH SUCCESSFUL singles. He wouldn’t have even been able to drop without them.

Listened to the entire thing. When it comes to delivering his social message, Cole is the most consistent dude out. Uses his platform to leave the world a better place than it was handed to him. Great fuckin interview.
