It took 29 years, but the Beastie Boys’ debut Licensed To Ill, was recently certified diamond. The group joins MC Hammer, The Notorious B.I.G., Outkast, Eminem, and 2Pac as the only hip-hop artists to cross the 10 million mark. The album is also Def Jam’s highest seller. Congrats! #RIPMCA.

Each countries specific recording industry governing body issues these awards/plaques. You cant sell 7 mil in the US and 3 mil in UK and be Diamond.. it HAS to be in each country… especially since gold and platinum in other countries is wildy different. A platinum album in Australia is 75k copies sold.
