Here’s the difference, Nas was portraying a character for the genre Mafioso Rap in league with other rappers who were doing the same: KOOL G RAP, Raekwon and even Biggie (FRANK WHITE). Before that Nas had already paid his dues, by painting a vivid picture of street life on Illmatic – So of course his introduction into mafioso rap was inevitable. Ross isn’t talented in the least. I find his approach to be mediocre. The one thing I could say, the mother fucker has a great ear for beats.

Dude Ross has many introspective songs & it’s not just about the mafia boss dopeboy persona. Niggas gotta look below the surface.
