Rihanna has 1oo million reasons to talk that talk. Today, it was announced that she has amassed more than 100 million gold and platinum song certifications, making her the first in RIAA history. Says chairman Cary Sherman:
“We’ve given awards to artists for nearly 60 years, but it’s rare that we have the opportunity to recognize a milestone like the one Rihanna has reached. Congratulations to Rihanna! She has not only surpassed RIAA’s one-hundred million mark, but also is the first artist to do so. It’s an historic feat and a testament to an extraordinary career.”

If you take Rihanna’s solo album sales only…she probably sold about 25-30 million collectively. Where the number fudging comes into play is when artists can count their collaborations as their album sales as well….ie her and Eminem on his Recovery which sold 10 million worldwide…she can compound those sales to hers.

Creative freedom has been taken and the sales show it. The average artist might get a 3 year run, and the pop crowd on to the next artist.
