A few days ago at the annual Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal, the artist formerly known as Mos Def, called out the entire rap game for a battle. Enlisting Black Thought and King Los, he says the triumvirate are accepting all challengers. No Joke. Speaking of which, Yasiin is also trying his hand at comedy. Peep the clip below.

Did this ever happen? From what I understand Mos has very few formidable opponents when it comes to a rap battle. But only mainstream names tend to get thrown around in a high publicized battle when a highly reputable name like Mos Def AKA Yasin Bey is the first one to throw their name in the hat. There is no doubt in my mind if folks like Brother Ali, Murs, or Eyedea RIP in his day would not only give Mos a run for his money but may very well it’s likely they’d run away with the competition very easily in my honest opinion.
As I thought it was cancel by Mos, the same guy who issued the challenge who even came up with some BS stating it was never “made for the public” as if any of these guys would miss out on an opportunity to make money to perform and do something most rap fans would love to see.
My guess is he did this to create an illusion that he’s one of or the king of the hill when it comes to free styling and when truly talented rappers like Lupe Fiasco tossed his name in the hat, Mos Def’s challenge got a lot more response from fellow rappers and more out of hand then he ever expected knowing damn well he probably wouldn’t have that great of a showing.
This irks me along with a lot of other things he’s chosen to say and involve himself with, which all started taking place when he changed his name and made that stupid video about the terrorists in Guantanamo who were being fed by feeding tube because they refused to eat. Somehow in his backwards little mind apparently he came to the conclusion its was cool for these people to do serious damage to their bodies and should have been allowed to die of hunger. The same thing would have happened here on US soil, if you refuse to eat eventually a family member will report you and you’ll be taken to a hospital and force fed with a feeding tube exactly like the prisoners.
