Andre 3000, Kendrick and Big Boi bring the hip hop culture something new and original. Anyone who listens to real hip-hop, knows that OutKast makes better music than anyone working in the genre today, solos or groups. That’s what makes them “real” and “G”.
On the other hand, there was nothing legendary or quality about Wale’s albums, musically or lyrically. His music direction feels forced and out of character. Lyrically he is above average but does nothing outside of his norm. Weak themes or no themes at all.
You still haven’t stated what makes Wale a weirdo rapper and not the artists you mentioned that you love. Lets not gloss over that because the weirdo bs is the entire reason for this discussion.
The entire Album About Nothing was a themed album. Something “new” that we’ve never seen in Hip Hop. The Gifted, is an amazing palette of various black music.
Musically, Wale was doing themes of black culture before Kendrick was Kendrick. Jazzy themes, poetry and African influenced music? Wale was one of the first new school artist to introduce these themes into his music.
By the standards you just listed, Wale should be considered “real” and/or “G”.
I get it if somebody doesn’t like Wale’s personality and even if someone doesn’t like the way he flows but to act like Wale isn’t a good artist or that his music isn’t bringing something new or fresh to the table is a bold face lie.
To me Wale is as gifted a lyricist as Kendrick is, as good of an artist as he is, just without the team that Kendrick has (ie. TDE and Derek Ali). I also wish Wale would enunciate his words better. Wale’s flow is so unorthodox that it does make it difficult to rap along too. These are the only grips I really have with Wale.
Absolutely nothing about Wale’s music seems out of character for him. It is aligned with who he seems like as a person.
To say real niggaz don’t listen to him though, is preposterous and not based in facts.
Maybe you don’t care much for Wale’s albums but listen to Mixtape About Nothing and tell me that Wale isn’t a great artist.
