’13 Best Guest Verses #5: Jay Z “Pound Cake”

Written By: @BdotTM January 7, 2014 @ 2:31 PM EDT

Cake’d Up.

Jay Z satisfied his sweet tooth and our ears on Drake’s “Pound Cake”. After a few swag bars, Hov seizes the moment to address his distractors (“Get ’em a red nose, they clown cake” ) and even former/current allies, (“Dame made millions, Biggs made millions, Ye made millions, Just made millions, Lyor made millions, Cam made millions.” ) If Beans ever puts his feelings aside, even he would agree this was one of Jigga’s finest moments. —B.Dot

    Nope. Just nope.

  • Dashing28

Yup, this was dope. Probably the most memorable verse on the whole album.

Can ya’ll include Kendrick twice? Once for Nosetalgia and then Control at #1. He deserves it.

I swear if ya’ll give best guest verse to Drake for Versace and not Kendrick for Control you know the site’s going to explode, right?

    • Melly Mel

I was just about to say the same thing lol there is no way Kendrick on Control can’t be number one

    • It’s Just Music

take out the entire name dropping line, would it still be memorable?

  • jay

No. Not top 5. Not top 13. Not top anything.

  • 400_Degreez

I really DID NOT fuck with this verse at all… I think people call some of Jay’s verses dope because he can talk about things that other rappers cant… but that doesn’t mean its dope… where’s the creativity in the lyrics??? 2013 Jay-z is decent, but I think some of these young rappers can rap circles around him today

    • Fistacuffs

I didn’t like his verse either.

    • Yacht

Definitely some truth to what you saying. But, that “rap circles around him” bullshit don’t get cute. We’re talkin bout HOV

  • kay kay

    best verse on the album

  • Don P

All ima say with this category is Elliot better not let Drake’s Versace verse be above Kendrick’s Control verse. But definitely thought this Hov verse belonged

  • toon

This verse is horrible. Absolutely terrible. A few good albums in the past do not secure every verse the artist makes in the future as genius. Something both RapRadar and Jay Z need to understand and come to terms with.

  • deadross

jays verse on devil is a lie was better.much better.

  • Dan Karlin

“Look at my neck, I got a carrot cake!
Now here’s the icing on the cake!
    ….cake, cake cake cake…”

Yeah, almost nothing touched this verse, you guys.

    • young

Nigga do you see the play on words

      • Dan Karlin

Yeah, I see it. Doesn’t mean I think it was any good, or that the “cake/carrots/wealth” metaphor wasn’t done before (and better) by other artists, but I do get it.

  • 2PAC

Bdot and elliot dick riding jay z to the fullest extent today. Shout out to k dot.

  • Ben

    Hard verse period

  • Kevin Banks

Jay Z was just wasting bars on this shit, cake cake cake cake, millions, millions, millions and it makes number 5 on rap radar, this website is starting to look like a big joke

Anyone gonna tell B DOT that
“I smoked cigars with Jay Z once”
    won’t matter on a resume?

Hov’s verse was a fairy tale. “Speak Spanish” ? Cause you said 3 words?
“Still Roc La Familia”? Anyone left from there? Whos’ making hits? Where’s MIA/Rita? Jay El?

“cake cake cake” , oooo what a reference. Cake, carrot cake like jewels. ooooo.
I can’t even go on anymore

B DOT, we all feel bad for you.

  • That Guy

cake cake cake cake cake cake, dropped cake on my mac i got an apple cake, throw cake at a Napoleon painting in the MET i got Napoleon cake, and here’s the icing on the cake: cake cake cake cake cake, use cake as icing i got a cake cake.

Get the fuck out of here with these childish rhymes, RR have some integrity.

  • young

I doubt Jay feels the same way
