Lupe Concurs With Bill O’Reilly

Speaking with MTV, Lupe addresses Bill O’Reilly‘s comparison of Chicago’s South Side to Haiti. Pardon Bill’s hyperbole, but nothing comes close to the conditions in Haiti. Prior to the quake, the nation was (is) the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. In 2008, 80% of the population lived under the poverty line. Obviously, that number’s since increased. Third world democracy, indeed.

  1. I thought that I was the only cat who could kinda feel what Bill was saying. Cats get so wrapped up in hating the messenger (and in Bill’s case, deservedly so) that they miss the message. Billy Boy wasn’t too far off.

  2. B.Dot says:

I dont give a fuck how dire things are in the US, go to Haiti, u’d be dying to come back here

  3. Van says:

B.Dot you know Lupe is telling the truth. I think the point was before the Hurricane the places are/were comparable. I bben to places in North Philly, Detroit, Chicago, I was like wtf.

  4. Dashing says:

    @stupiddopemoves

Yeah. He was that far off. Poverty in Haiti and poverty in Chicago were not even comparable 2 weeks ago, let alone now.

It’s one thing to say that the US has cities that are riddled with poverty that we need to take care of and that we shouldn’t focus on Haiti but on ourselves, but there is a world of difference between Haiti and poor US.

Poor folks in America still have food (or food stamps), access to homeless shelters, access to the Emergency Room, running water, electricity. It’s not really comparable.

  5. mike says:

    HES JUST A LASER

    LUPE UR A LASER

  6. mac DIESEL says:

I DOUBT LUPE N I KNOW FOR A FACT BILL “PALE PASTY FACE” ‘O RIELLY AIN’T NEVER BEEN TO HAITI!!!! HAITI AIN’T NO JOKE YA’LL!!!!!

  7. Dashing says:

I do agree with Lupe though that the overarching causes for the poverty/violence are similar.

but the degree of poverty/violence/corruption are in no way comparable.

  8. Wow says:

Wwwoooowww, ppl really have the audacity to compare chi-town wit port-au-prince???? Go on BBC world and look up some of the pics/read the articles talkin bout wut Haiti’s goin thu… And they don’t even tell HALF of the story cuz they on the outside lookin in… Y’all think the ghettos here r bad? Try the ‘bidonville’ out there and u tell me wuts more fucked up… I seen that shit wit my own eyes

    Educate yoselves b4 talkin shit

  9. papology says:

No american city can be compared to Haiti, not even close to.

    What a dumb motherfucker.

  10. Nah, obviously Haiti is in a far worse place than Chicago/any American city, no one would argue that. Been like that since far before the earthquake hit. I live in Chicago, been to Haiti; there are similarities. Shit doesn’t have to be exactly the same for somebody to draw a comparison. Lupe kicked a lot of real shit in the vid; I’d just be paraphrasing him in outlining ill shit here in the city. Not taking anything away from the seriousness of the probs being faced in Haiti at all; I just think to a degree, that’s not necessarily a false statement. Like the post states, it’s hyperbole. But in it’s root sentiment, in areas (but not totalities) of major American cities, it’s fairly true.

  11. sorry Lupe says:

Yo I fuck with Lupe but he’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off with this one trust me poverty & misery in the 3rd world (West Indies, Africa, India ect…)> USA hoods by a longshot. Hell not only Haiti look up Westpoint, Liberia then come back to me about it being the same, you ever have shit flow through you streets on the regular? I got one movie for ya’ll to see to shut that Chi town – Haiti argument down : “Ghosts of Cite Soleil” end.

  12. Exodus says:

Lupe is an undercover conservative. I been saying that. He makes good music but everytime he opens his mouth to speak he annoys me. From the Tribe shit to the Hilary Clinton shit. YN was right about dude. And oh yeah on no level is Chicago even comparable to the conditions in Haiti, before the earthquake. Anyone who thinks so should really do some research. And as someone said, we don’t even see half of the shit from the outside looking in. Lupe needs to shut his mouth and stop just saying shit for shock value.

  13. sorry Lupe says:

@Van. Money I been to North Philly, the D, Long Beach hell I was born and grew up in between DC and Brooklyn during the 80’s early 90’s (when DC was the murder capital and NY was well crazy) and lemme tell you when I went to Haiti the first time as a shorty it was like I was on another planet there is NO comparison, none, 0 and i’m dead serious you have to actually go somewhere to understand it. You ever heard of Papa Doc and Baby Doc? The death squads? Tonton Macoutes? Les Zinglindou? This isnt the same tpe of corruption this is the if you say one thing against the gov they run up in your crib and kill everyone. You see Jigga’s face when he did that water for Africa joint? Or when Raekwon and Paul Wall went to Sierra Leone for that blood diamond documentary? Them cats were like shiiit get me the fuck up outta here. Plus Lupe went to Tanzania with the whole Summit on the Summit of course they aint gonna put Jessica Biel and them in the grimiest areas hell he probably was in one of the better ones. There is no mall, no Hot 97, no sneaker spot, no 7-11, no corner store deli, no liquor spot, no welfare office, no bball courts nada. You every eat dirt cause you so poor in Chicago?

  14. mac DIESEL says:

    @ sorry Lupe

COSIGN 200% NIGGA!!!!! THAT’S REAL TALK!!!!! REAL RECOGNIZE REAL!!!!! ONE!!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!!

  15. M85 says:

Yea @ sorry Lupe and others I don’t think it’s fair to say that poverty in Haiti is the same as chi-town Detroit or bed stuy..but what is important is that the level of how abject poverty looks is relative to that area/country..if you are livin in the hood here u can say your livin in the bottom rungs of US society..the us is not a poor country therefore the level of poverty won’t be the same as a country like Haiti but is still deplorable considering the gap in classes..web dubois said to be poor in a land of dollars is the worst..now when you speak of a poor country like Haiti there are no classes u either extremely poor or wealthy…like Liberia and the entire list of African countries haiti has been underdeveloped by unjust policies of other countries..the real important thing is that poverty has shaped the lives of black people all around the globe..it really takes a pan Africanist view to see that no matter what flag we been taught to claim we all have the same common struggle..Haiti is like new Orleans..pple were already living in the worst conditions of their area before a natural disater highlighted it

  16. redblue says:

the real question is what are we going to do about the minority people here in america, we talk all we want but yet we continue to hate one another just base on the fact someone has more than another,. you cant even get on a site without hate being spewed at a fellow person.

  17. Nathaniel says:

the nigga didnt say haiti mirrored any ghetto in america. he didn’t say it was an exact replica. he just pointed to similarities such as

    poverty
    extreme violence
    suffering education and low literacy
    corruption in the police force
    corruption in local police
    disfranchisement

^oakland, baltimore, detroit, new orleans. these places (among others) can be comparable to pre-earthquake haiti. no, it isn’t exactly the same. but the message here is to WAKE UP (c) spike lee* and recognize how our own children, right here in america, are dying all types of psychological and physical deaths in these streets. it was real in the 60’s, in the 80’s, 90’s, and yes even today with barack spouting rhetoric from the podium, in 2010 too. we have to be aware and sympathetic…AND proactive to our OWN conditions as black people.

  18. Nathaniel says:

    i agree @dashing

  19. Nathaniel says:

we also have to be mindful as americans that we can’t look at what normal life looks like for us and then call whatever country that doesn’t have suburbs, mcdonalds, and highways “poverty stricken and 3rd world”. NOT TO SAY THERE ISNT POVERTY IN HAITI. BUT:

how poor do people with ancestry in haiti that lived in port au prince feel? to what degree is it just their way of life…the way the communities look, and to what degree do countries like the US and those in europe look upon that way of life as detestable and inferior…thus dubbing it super poor with terrible, unliveable conditions…? just something to think about. because, u see, this is what cripples every nation with low eurocentric influence; the assumption that they all want what white run countries have. if the US tries to rebuild haiti, it’ll be turned into an extension of a state in this country. this is why it’s important that they are left alone…they don’t need the parental guidance of america or europe. this is mainly why they are crippled now. they need to do for themselves WITHOUT worry of outside exploitation, corruption or infiltration. without the heels of the european powers on their necks. they’re human beings….they are fully capable of rebuilding themselves. if i were haiti, i’d only accept help from the dark nations of the world. the long term affect of that will be well worth it.

  20. Nathaniel says:

and stop calling places with people of african descent 3rd world. that shit is ignorant as fuck, and termed for the SOLE purpose of inferiorizing. please my niggas…we gotta do better.

  21. Nathaniel says:

    @M85

^MOST INFORMED SHIT SPOKEN IN THIS THREAD. I HOPE YALL READ WHAT WAS SAID.

  22. whats really going on says:

now its going around that Haiti is being being robbed of the oil in their country.
btw, this has been talked about by leaders from the dominican republic
    http://www.abibitumikasa.com/forums/oppression-afrikans-economically/41112-oil-mining-haiti-worlds-elite-robbing-people-blind.html

  23. Dee says:

Lupe looking like Fab 5 Freddy.
Anyway, hoods in the US are no way near the hoods in the Caribbean.
    I speak from experience.

Kids from the hoods up here still got sneakers, tv’s, cable.
Fuck that, compare it to people in the islands who don’t even have running water or any other basic needs.

  24. kingboola says:

NO WAY IS THIS A COMPARISON FROM THAT SALTINE BILL OREILLY ACCURRATE. AND ALSO DO U REALLY TRUST A GUY WHO CANNOT KNOW THE RHYMES OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST AND OTHER DUMB SHIT HE HAS SAID. IM A SOUTHSIDE REPRESENTATIVE AND HAITI IS IN DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS.

  25. M85 says:

@ Nathaniel same to you brotha..well put..third world is a negative word..underdeveloped is better since that’s what European countries and the US have done to countries especially those where black and brown people are for years

  26. Chipped Tooth Condition says:

Y’all know that Detroit is the Haiti in US.

  27. BKLYN says:

Lupe is not as bright as I thought. There are food banks, welfare offices , soup kitchens, homeless shelters etc…You’ve got to be fucking kidding me to compare Anywhere USA to Haiti or any other 3rd World Country. And I’ve got a few stamps on my passport.

  28. Jimbo Slice says:

This is true. I like how he isolated his concurrence. That was necessary. “Lupe and 2 Weeks in Vegas” coming soon http://www.reverbnation.com/blastmusicconcepts
