Inspired by the film Inception, Lil Wayne returns with a video for Tha Carter IV‘s lead single. This wasn’t supposed to premiere until later tonight, but DHH jumped the gun. C4 is definitely on the way.

Well, 6 7 is in my 5 top tracks of this year, but the video is just not what i thought of, ask me, they had way to many fuckin shots, still aint kno what the tubs all about, but forreal tho, Hype’s gettin a lil flat and curvy on his videos

so refreshing to see someone actually think differently about how to portray wayne in his videos. every other video so far: “right he talks about guns girls and money” so we’ll stick him in a bank with some girls and film him rapping.
Hype Williams has done exactly the right thing here by visually portraying each and every one of Wayne’s weird metaphors which i think really captures his genius.

That actually made the lines less random. The Inception concept behind it was good too. Video made me like the song more.
Where does this rank with other Wayne videos? Fairly high. I still like the Go DJ video, Fireman, Hustla Musik, etc etc videos better though.

I didnt think Hype Williams did a particularly bad job, its just that Lil Wayne didnt give him much to work with. Im not surprised he went with the Inception idea- theres no way the lyrics make any sense unless its a “dream”. But I did think the literal interpretations kinda showed how disconnected and corny most of Waynes punchlines are.

Wow, I can’t believe how horrible this is.
Shit, even Dave Meyers would have done a better job than this. I thought the whole Inception thing was going to mean something in the end, but all we got was the same shot of him getting dunked in a bathtub over and over, lasagna (this nigga seriously cut to an awkward shot of lasagna when Weezy says the word “lasagna”) and bad green screen shots of girls wandering around. And what was with the softcore porn-grade scene at the beginning? How’d they get Rock Harders to do a cameo as Leo DiCaprio? That license-free Hans Zimmer music is hysterical.
I think Hype is a real life Benjamin Button – his videos have started to look and feel like the shit kids shoot in high school broadcasting class. And the issue of “lower budgets these days” comes into play, but his grammar (how things cut together, the coverage, the very IDEAS) has regressed to sub-film school status.
In the end, I’m sure it’s that he just doesn’t care anymore. He’s got a standard of living to maintain, so he’ll keep churning these out and the actual production budgets will suffer before he takes a huge cut in his fees.
I don’t understand how someone can consider this video classic, or even good. When I saw it I thought it was a mixture between odd and funny. I prefer the “All of the Lights” video which is dope and isn’t so blatant in trying to display the rhymes. The song is dope, the vid is weak.

The VIDEO SUCKS, it has no direction, no inspiration just a conglomerate of nonsensical tripe! LIl’Wayne fails at being intellectual or impressing anyone, nothing is thought provoking, nothing is original. He doesn’t evolve as an artist but I’ll give him some credit for not doing the same ol’bullshit in his videos. A Milli was his best video in my opinion cause It has a direction: It was minimal.
