Friends Say Goodbye To Heavy D

Earlier today, family and friends said their farewells to Heavy D who passed away last Tuesday. The private funeral service was held at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon NY. Kid N Play’s DJ Wiz reflected with MTV on the times he had with Heav.
During the service, Rev. Al Sharpton called Heavy’s daughter Xea Myers to the podium to read a written message from President Obama.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time,” the note from Obama read. “He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
Those who said their goodbyes included Diddy, Jay-Z, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Denzel Washington and more.
