The spot follows current New York Knicks all-star power forward, Amar’e Stoudemire, through practice, to the tattoo parlor, and then through the streets of New York City. The coolest part is the soundtrack. Nike enlisted recent Bad Boy-signee and Moroccan-born rapper, French Montana, to provide the vocals. But rather than snag a song from the extensive catalog of the latest it artist, the sneaker kings commissioned an original song that works both on and off court. Montana is literally rhyming from the perspective of Stoudemire, making the spot feel more genuine than generic. “Draft/Round one/Ninth pick/To the bank/I penetrate defense quick,” he raps, referring to the Amare’s selection in the 2002 NBA draft.
