’11 Best Albums: #8 Wale Ambition

The biggest misconception surrounding Wale signing with Rick Ross’ MMG Records was that his sophomore album would be infiltrated with the Rozay sound. Could Folarin maintain his identity? Well one listen to Ambition proves it. The first three songs sound like his band UCB is backing him up. Mr. Rich Forever only pops up at the end of “Miami Nights” to scoop him up. Ha! The Bawse and Meek Mill do emerge on the amazing title track but this disc mostly displays ‘Le’s versatility. He can snap on some rugged shit (Toomp’s “Legendary”), two step smooth us out (Ne-Yo guested “White Linen”), spill his guts out (“Sabotage”) and diddy bop dance craze us with Big Sean (“Slight Work”). Fuck perception. This is about perseverance. Wale won.

If u got ambition on this list than finally famous should be #7. It produced 3 solid chart topping singles… 2 being platinum now. The overall album had hardly any trash songs….

P.S. the only reason I’m mentioning this album is because y’all got ambition on this list! TM103 was trash by the way. It had about 4 good song n 2 of the were released more than a year ago!

What does you being from New York have to do with anything? Wale is from DC. Jeezy is from Atlanta. How does NY fit into the picture?

  18. Kunta Kente says:

Childish Gambino Camp was hands down the best crafted hip-hop album of 2011

  19. Pissed says:

I think you got “best” mixed up with “worst” here.

This dude was ok when he first came out but dude is so damn boring & has zero personality on the mic. Weak.

  20. polofrmpg says:

I swear wake has the biggest haters ever.. How can you say wake is weak on the mic ? Are you dumb ? What song has he ever been weak on ? This dude delivers on EVERY song he is on.

  21. FlocKaveLLi says:

Without a doubt this album deserved a spot on the Worst list, especially after all the hype behind it. Total disappointment. I knew this would make this list because RR has ties with Wale. and i used to be a huge fan of wale but lately i dont like anything he puts out and this album was ass. his first album was underrated. and whats his all his arrogance, homie you aint that good. make some classic material before you get all cocky

  22. biased says:

    hahahah the MMG dicksucking continues

  23. the void says:

    wale is boring. ZzZzZzZz

  24. the void says:

LoL @ wales camp on here defending him, anyway no one is blind on here we know YN and Wale are cool so this is just the normal industry politics stuff….it’s weak but normal no need to get upset over it

  27. Industry Advocate says:

I really liked the direction this site WAS going in. Now, they’re no different than how YN was running XXL….on favorites and FAVORS! All of your lists are seriously flawed not only according to me, but in comparison to your own judgements all year! Each list had at least 4 WTF moments…sorry but you guys started 2012 off very wrong!!!

  28. Snow says:

This #8 and 103 #9? Fuck outta here!!!

  29. M.T says:

I was expecting a little more from this album. Only Standout song to me is “Ambition. The rest is meh. The list is alright so far(except for that mac miller album). Keep at it.

  30. JA Datsyuk says:

I’ve like Wale for awhile, but I don’t know about better than TM103. It has some good songs on it, some playback value, but it ain’t a “classic” like Rozay hyped from day 1. It’s aight.

  31. loch121 says:

I like this album more than Drake’s actually.

  33. TheEza says:

Im sorry but Wale hasn’t put out anything really great since Back To The Feature.(I am being generous). If you are a true Wale fan that has been listening to him since Paint a Picture(I am and I have) then you know the last real classic piece of material he put out was The Mixtape About Nothing…..and OMG WTF 100 miles and running. If you haven’t heard 100 miles and running you should not say shit about Wale….it is that simple….

However this new album is total ass. Attention Deficit was solid….but still nothing compared to his previous mixtapes and that shit really disappoints me. He is rappin about shit he used to hate…..the music industry ruins everything. This album gets not even a 6 out of 10. and I am or used to be a Wale stan.

  34. realshit says:

The eza said sum rel shit iv never really ben a fan of dudes but iv allows acknowledge his talents and followed his career since I’m from md. The album was ok at best but it produced a radio friendly single n he’s gona get Tour bread so him as a rapPer will comtinue.

  35. DICKrr says:

  38. L.T. says:

This album was EXCELLENT! not even a hardcore Wale fan but you cant deny the great lyricism, wonderful production on EVERY track and features were ALL on point. This is a breathe of fresh air to the game and if you dont like lyrics i can understand that you DONT GET what Wale is talking about. TM103 is str8 but it coulda been better for the long wait. Ambition does go harder.
