somebody not telling the truth…but i never heard this much emotion from Lupe, let alone curse this much…need to put that in the tracks….i think they are both legendary and need to smooth this out. – @ablacktv

  2. D!A!E! says:

Be more original and we wouldn’t even be in this situation, Lu. Honestly.

  3. NOVA says:

  7. NOVA says:

You trying to “BIG-UP” somebody………..but dog….not only did you not TALK to him directly….you didn’t say anything out of love before you put the dip out……..Let alone you didn’t even SAY “shout out to Pete Rock” or SOMETHING on the track….if it’s all about “love” and “biggin him up”…….come on son…like…WHO DIDN’T KNOW YOU DO-NOT-TOUCH- T.R.O.Y……..ever………..i know a lot of cats in here rap…….i PROMISE nobody in here ever even tried to touch that record out of SHEER respect.

  8. Luke says:

I respect Pete Rock but Lupe did this song more than justice, Pete Rock needs to stop being a bitch

  9. YunG based god says:

this sell out needs to stop acting a fool. i cant believe i used to be a fan

  10. QBoogie says:

    Fuck Lupe Bitchasco

  11. Ayye says:

Its the fact that Pete knew about the record for a long ass time. If he had a problem he shouldve addressed it way earlier “internally” instead of after it dropped on twitter. That’s bitch shit, Its all about principles here. Lupe can and still makes original music he can’t pay homage or whatever you wanna call it to a classic beat/producer/rapper? C’mon now where’s the love?

  12. fuzethemc says:

I think the biggest thing about this whole situation is when someone tries to reach back and pay homage in hiphop its always a big ordeal. Other genres don’t ether each other like this when everything is good on the legal side.

  13. Donn says:

Lol @ Nova. Glad their on good terms. Just put out good music. Fuck all that extra shit

  14. the void says:

who is the bum in the picture?

  15. FreedomAintFree says:

LUPE IS GONNA HAVE A AMAZING YEAR THIS YEAR LOL YALL ALL WILL SEE

  16. lurkerbutposts says:

Damn Lu is usually zen as fuck. I aint never heard this dude this angry. You know some shit went down. Sounds like Pete admitted he was in the wrong on the phone and they DID clear it up and he was supposed to put out a public sort of retraction on the shit he said to make the public know what’s up but he didn’t. Anyway it’s a moot point. That track is crazy. Lu was spitting real shit its a shame that all this BS is overshadowing what was said in the music to some niggas.

Peace to both Lu & Pete

  17. lurkerbutposts says:

@NOVA dude TROY has been remixed time and time again on mixtapes and what have you. the only thing Lu did different was actually saying some relevant shit on it.

  18. lupes main bitch says:

pete rock is a has been in da rap community kinda like cuba gooding jr in movies. they were hailed as da best at a point in time but they have become irrelevant. but yea pete u keep talking shit u still aint getting paid bitch nigga ( oh yea im white and i say nigga do something bout it bitches) cus u dont own the sample NIGGA(on my push t shit right now) so jus keep ur mouth shut as u sit on ur couch in your 2 bedroom condo HAHAHAHAHAHA POOR NEGROE.

  19. NOVA says:

@lukerbutposts THE DIFFERENCE is this is a major album release……..all the other times nobody was trying to eat off it……….they weren’t commercial releases……..and NOBODY (and i mean NOBODY) touched the BEAT……….that’s just wrong.

  20. lurkerbutposts says:

    @NOVA a valid point

  21. DEAD says:

Fuck Lupe Fiasco. Never supporting this cheating, sneaky bitch again. I hope you fail in all of your future endeavors, although frankly it looks like you’re taking care of that pretty well yourself.

very wack music + extreme arrogance + bitchassness = Lupe over the last 2 years

  22. BBGUN says:

I think the song is dope.
Sometimes these old niggas get there feelings hurt.
I dont even understand why pete is mad would he be gettin a check for this shit?

  23. ^ says:

Nope. Lupe and Atlantic cut him out of the loop.

  24. FreedomAintFree says:

@DEAD UE OBVIOUSLY A YMCMB FAN SMH IF U ONLY LISTEN TO THE SONG AND WHAT HE SAID BUT U WONT AND NEXT YEAR PEOPLE WILL BE CRYING THEIR EYES OUT AND WISHIN THEY WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO LUPE BCUZ HES WARNING YALL WHATS ABOUT TO GO DOWN AND IM PRETTY SURE HIS ALBUM WILL TELL THE REST OF THE STORY SO ALL IMA SAY IS IF U HAVE SUM MONEY I SUGGEST YALL BUY SUM GOLD MATTERFACT BECAUSE THESE RAPPERS KNOW I GUARANTEE THEY ALL HAVE GOLD BARS EVERY WHERE IN THEY HOUSE

  25. FreedomAintFree says:

SHIT I WONT BE SURPRISED IF THEY TRY TO KILL LUPE BECAUSE OF WHAT HES DOING

  26. fthought says:

^^ what the fuck sherm are you smoking?

  27. iClick says:

listen to the interview. Lu and them talked to Pete months before they released the track. Pete knew and said go for it. Only after Lu released the record did Pete come out and PUBLICLY bash Lu on Twitter, AFTER they already talked behind the scenes. Also, because of issues with publishing and tracks owned by third parties they HAD to remake the beat because samples were unclearable. They wanted to pay homage and they thought Pete was ok with it, and then he shitted on them on Twitter. that’s not cool man. I think the original is as legendary as any hiphop head but that doesn’t excuse Pete’s behaviour. I think Lu has the right to be upset.

  28. NOVA says:

^ @iClick………..fam……Lupe was double talking…around the 4 minute mark he reveals that he NEVER spoke to pete before yesterday……#proofinthepudding

  29. Phonte says:

It seems like Pete Rock is the one doing bitch shit. If Lupes team reched out to u months ago and u said ok why you going to throw a fit on twitter after the song drops be act likes its new to u? And then he doesn’t release the statement they agreed to over the phone? I’d be mad too. Lupe did the song justice. No music is untouchable if you dont own the rights.

  30. lupes main bitch says:

lupe personally didnt talk to dat has been because he has millions and pete is on welfare. he meant lupes people talked to pete rock(pete is so poor he doesnt have people) and kept him posted on the track and he signed off on it even tho as lupe stated he didnt even need to have done any of that since dat ashy poor nigga pete didnt even own that sample.

  31. Play says:

^thats only lupes side of the story. At the end of the day, if Pete Rock is pissed, then lupe clearly fucked up trying to “pay homage”, which seems to defeat the purpose of using the beat anyway.

  32. Play says:

    ^@Phonte and iClick

  33. iclick says:

true, but the thing is Pete wasn’t pissed anymore at least apparently. After that phone call he tweeted that “they worked out their differences.” Lu is still pissed despite that though, which to me speaks volumes on how everything went down internally.

  34. Play says:

Yeah, but this interview has really kinda pissed me off about Lupe. I mean, what right does Lupe have to be pissed? In the end, he won; he got the beat, he got the cosign, and he didn’t even have to ask. Now he wants an apology, help promoting the album and an introduction to the pope, too? Fuck all that, now niggas are just getting greedy and overreaching.

  35. lupes main bitch says:

fuck pete and his cuz troy that nigga used to beat on women slappin em around like they was dogs

  36. In Your Fucking Face says:

@Play He Has Every Right To Be Pissed Pete Flaked On Him And Then Shitted On Him When He Decided To Release The Record. He Wasn’t Asking For An Apology He Was Asking For Pete To Tell The Truth. If You Didn’t Like The Remake Don’t Cosign From The Jump. Pete You Fucking Up Niggas Credibility Which Is More Important Than A Song.

  37. Play says:

^only if you believe lupe over pete

  38. 3rdRail says:

Leave the classics alone. I mean release a freestyle over the joint if you really feel you want to rock it. But don’t try to eat off of legendary sh*t.

  39. Marko-V says:

I honestly think Pete Rock is tryin to get a resurgence to his career through this controversy. Especially after tweeting how he and Lupe will work together. That, to me, sounds like a sign of employment and he’s saying his power move of airing out Lupe and his team worked. I hope that isn’t the case though.

  40. RedRocBoy says:

The majority of yall homos don’t even listen or fuck with the god Lu. Yall just come on here to spread hate on somebody that’s legitimately trying to bring growth and peace to the hip-hop culture. Not like the rest of Nino Brown,Tony Montana wanna be ass niggas. Pete knew about this shit back in November and still pulled this bitch move? GTFO! Somebody like Lu has the utmost respect for the forfathers of hip-hop, so crazy that Pete would not tell the whole story. Lupe>90% of hip-hop. Food &Liquor 2!! FNF ALL THE WAY UP !!!!

  41. mac DIESEL says:

DAMN, LUPE HEATED FOR REAL!!!! I WISH THESE NIGGAS WOULD JUST RESOLVE THIS BULLSHIT!!!! NEXT TIME, CALL A NIGGA!!!! FUCK MY “TEAM” SPOKE TO HIS “TEAM” BULLSHIT!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  42. King says:

The most interesting thing about this “beef” is that the gulf between each side’s story is so wide. Fans are inclined to pick a side, but who could possibly tell who to side with when the facts are so skewed? All we really know for a fact is that Lupe did not technically (legally) have to get Pete Rock’s approval to release the song as is, and that Pete Rock was not happy when he heard it 3 days ago. Personally, I find Pete’s version of events a little easier to believe, but like everything else, the real truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

ACCORDING TO LUPE: His “people reached out” to Pete Rock in November, who immediately gave his stamp of approval, and indicated to Lupe that he would have to clear the samples with other parties. Then, 3 days ago, Pete Rock had a sudden bout of bipolar amnesia, and freaked out when the song was posted online, posting a diatribe making it sound as though Lupe had not contacted him and that he would not have approved if he had. THEN Lupe confronted Pete over the phone, where Pete Rock admitted that he had been acting crazy, he was 100% wrong, and begged for forgiveness, which Lupe decided to grant him, as long as Pete publicly apologized and took full responsibility with a follow-up statement. At this point, Pete released a “we’re cool” statement, which was not good enough.

ACCORDING TO PETE: He was never contacted regarding the obvious use of his classic record “T.R.O.Y.” for Lupe’s new single. Reacting out of surprise when he heard the record 3 days ago, he took to Twitter to emphasize that he had not signed off on it, and that he did not approve. They spoke yesterday, settled their differences, and made plans to hit the studio together soon. Then Lupe freaked out again because he wasn’t supposed to reveal their plans, and because he was supposed to take the blame for the whole situation.

  43. M.T says:

Lupe my nigga, hate it had to be him. I feel for him. Joint is still hot. Hopefully this shit gets FULLY resolved. looking forward to FL2.

  44. FTW says:

Pete did just shit on his whole project.

It’s fucked up to have to scrap your lead single.

I hope this shit didn’t go to print and press.

Still will be the only album I’ll purchase this year.

  45. Jeezy says:

who paid pete to did what he did?

  46. JReezy says:

@FTW I don’t think Lupe will be scrapping that single.

  47. DJ Semtex's Prosthetic says:

kinda wack to rap on that beat tho, dont toucjh that ish foreal unless ur gonna release that song on a mixtape u feel me- too o.g

  48. Realniggashit says:

Fuck that Pete Rock history shit if that nigga fucked up he needs to yo I fucked up. He’s Human

  49. Beezy says:

I was waiting for Lupe to say “I’m with the Money Team right now! I got an indoor pool, outdoor pool and 5 Rolls Royces outside”

  50. cfcfanatik says:

Alot of the comments seem to be bringing their own bias and opinions. FIRSTLY Pete has said via his twitter rant and also based on what Lupe said in the interview that he respects Lupe however what his issue seems to be is that the record was very dear to him as it’s creation was based on the passing of Heavy D. FACT….. Pete never heard the track before it was released and also FACT…. based on the Lupe interview the entire beat and vocals were recreated and they were cleared for use by Atlantic (also known as interpolation in the music industry). FACT…… Pete as the original producer can obviously critique another producers work and he found offense to the production labelling the producers as wack, while it seems as though Lupe has found offense because his work is being tarnished by some sections of the public due to the beat being an iconic, calssic beat and also by people siding with Pete originally when it appeared as though Lupe never asked Pete anything….. The saddest part about the entire situation is that it seems as though noone is discussing the song which has been given incredibly good reviews on all rap blogs i’ve seen and whose subject matter is more important than Pete or Lupe’s point of views on the production as Lupe isn’t legally in the wrong. While this situation is sad maybe Lu shouldn’t have touched this record at all as this situation has caused alot of controversy. Life all about trials and tribulations tho so admist of everything just hope Lu and his fans keep cool and remmember that Lu is the forefront of positivity in hip hop and little escapades like this when cuss word is being flung plays right into the media’s hands and tarnishes his own image even though he actually was trying to state what transpired.

  51. FlowTeam says:

Its not Pete song for him to get mad about it anyway.. All these people getting mad cuz he rapped over a sampled beat. NEWS FLASH!! That mean every fan should be mad at every rapper cuz every rapper uses sampled beats. Get over it. Lupe never dissed him or said anything bad about pete. Pete Rock wanted to become relevant to the world again. that is all

  52. lupe fiasshole says:

the kid has a point…but eff that. pete rock can say what ever he wants. and who’s to say he didnt have plans on retracting formally at a later date. tk said way more damaging stuff about lupe before he blew up. didnt hear a peep out of him & his “street ” side. And, this aint the 1st vet he was out of line with….hip hop honors…atcq….smh.

  53. pienman says:

come on, SON! damn, indeed this has to be scrapped in that this is for the love of hip-hop….

i wish this gets resolved before this gets REALLY, REALLY ugly

  54. FTW says:

I hope people are actually giving the song an honest listen.

The shit is dope, Lupe is the only MC that can break down Planned Obsolescence in two lines.

…crucifixes, racism, and a land grab, Katrina, FEMA, trailers, human bodies, sand bags…(c)

GTFOH this track is too dope.

With all do respect, I don’t think Pete even listened to the shit.

    FTW

  55. Zephyr says:

Personally, I HAVEN’T given the song an honest play through, and I probably never will. I’m never going to hear those opening notes without immediately thinking “TROY”, so whatever Lupe tried to do with the track is entirely wasted. I have no use for this new song. I already have a classic over the same beat.

  56. FTW says:

I actually think we’re supposed to think of Troy (RIP), Heavy (RIP), Adam (RIP) and all the people we’ve lost and are losing. Lupe didn’t stray away from the emotion that CL had on the original. It’s just in a different context for a different time. I agree, no one can touch that sample with out a cosign from Pete but everything is 20/20 looking back. And I honestly think Lupe and or FNF thought they had the cosign. Still a great piece, too bad it’s been tarnished by politics. I can’t really defend the shit too much, its just dope.

Still… Zephyr and Dondi (RIP) are two of the best to ever do it.

    FTW

  57. j/y h/h says:

I’m a old school head. I remember when the original came out and thinking it was dopest sh** I had ever heard in my life. Honestly though, Lupe rocked it. The problem now though, is that Lupe’s let his feelings overshadow the track. He should of just let it be after Pete said what he said. Whether he needed to clear the sample with Pete or not, nobody will ever here Lupe’s song and not think of T.R.O.Y. It was such an iconic song that epitomized and embodied hip-hop. That was the song that really put Pete and CL on the map. So Pete is mad protective of that there. Lupe should of just been humble with it and let it be. That’s the problem with rappers these days, they think it’s their place to check and disrespect legends. The song is hot, no doubt, but mad people are going to be salty over Lupe handles the situation.

  58. Homie says:

I’m a fan of both but how come Pete wasn’t mad at this?

Is it because he was on it?

    Is this about the money?

    hmmm

  59. Ima Beast!! says:

What i find funny is that people are all on this ” fuck lupe ” cheating and all this shit! yall need to look at yourself because if pete didnt say anything yall would have been cool with it so you are all followers . and for all you one time fans who dont like him any more because of this were never fans to begin with. because he rapped over this beat before lol and no one said anything. (” dope boy freestyle”). i personally think pete was mad at how lupe ripped his beat better than C.L smooth. the sad thing is that lupe is talking about some serious shit in this song and like usual if it aint bout some ignorant shit people and hearing it these days. if you ask highschool kids who listens to rap who Pete rock is they will say who the fuck is that but they know who waka flocka is. the fact that they were trying to get pete to work with them and that they had to REMAKE the beat from the today sample from scratch shows that he was reached out to to help and chose not to and then decided to throw lupe under the bus. sampling is hip hop look at all the kayne samples when people found out who he sample thats when alot of people like myself learned about older groups like chaka kahn and otis redding people who were making music before i was born. that same task of bringing important music groups to a new generation is what lupe tried to do with the MOST RESPECT possible. Lupe should have Kayne do a remake of the beat and say fuck PETE

  60. bah says:

Not really a fan anymore after Lasers, but gotta respects this-sounds like he actually tried to respect Pete Rock. There’s a difference between what’s being said and what it sounds like he did: honor a legacy.

  62. leo says:

HA! Pete knew he didn’t own the master and wanted a piece of the cake is all, so his wallets mad he wasn’t involved in the remake. Dude obviously gave his blessing to make it. Lupe’s team is there to handle the business so he can focus on music…that’s why publishing companies exist. It would have been better if he called him personally, but that’s not necessary to show respect..especially if you don’t really know the dude..Pete’s being sensitive. Lupe clearly said he wanted to subtly pay tribute, not shout out Pete’s name all over the track. They both need to chill out and let the track breath because it’s dope

  63. Trouble T. Roy says:

    Sounds like fiasco to me!

  64. @leo says:

How exactly is jacking one of the most legendary beats of all time and turning it into your lead single “subtle”? Even if it hadn’t become such a massive fuck up, that shit is about as subtle as a jackhammer to the head.

  65. TROLLING says:

LUPE IS A BITCH, IF DUDES NOT COMPLAINING IN A RECORD HES COMPLAINING ON THE RADIO OR HES COMPLAINING ON TV. DUDES A RELIGIOUS NUT JOB
