We’re excited too. It was announced today that Island Def Jam SVP, Shawn “Pecas” Costner has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Def Jam Recordings. Says Pecas:

“Def Jam is the greatest hip-hop label in the world and it is an honor and a privilege to work with such incredible artists every day. I am appreciative of Steve Bartels for his leadership and his continued faith in me as we move the Def Jam brand into the future. With our talented staff, an unprecedented roster of superstars and an exciting crop of newcomers, we are poised to win big in 2013”

Island Def Jam’s President/COO, Steve Bartels adds:

“I am thrilled to announce this well deserved promotion. I have worked with Pecas for many years and have watched him grow significantly over that time. I look to Pecas for applying his energy and deep artist relationships towards helping us drive Def Jam on the path to continued greatness.”

As far as Amaya goes, he still runs the digital marketing department. Fire!

Damn its funny the amount of negative shit we have to say about the advancement of our own kind. SMMFH.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pecas has been an active part of the hiphop scene for more years of his life then the average negative poster on this board has lived.

But besides that, here we have a brother moving up in a company to a top tier position, a company where the man started out at literally at the bottom doing physical street team promotions and the sort, and for the most part all you crabs got to post is negativity.

I say it’s good to see a brother get this position, he deserves it and it’s nice to see a product of hiphop, someone who has lived and grown with hiphop through all of its manifestations and incarnations serve in a position of power verses some culture vulture mothafucka that doesn’t understand the culture or is a true part of it. Good move for Def Jam.

    Peace.
