Nas Talks Producers On Next Album

Unfinished Business.

Although Nas recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his debut, he’s got a new album on the way. Speaking with NPR, he says that he has began working with Swizz Beatz, No I.D. and hopes to finish what he has already started with Timbaland.

“I started working with , I want to say a year and a half ago. I think it was the same year I dropped my last album, Life is Good. I started with Tim and it felt really powerful; it felt like it was really powerful. And I stepped back from it. Tim’s like, “What are you doing?” and I’m like, “I just need a minute to like — I just need a minute to take it all in, just live a little and enjoy day-by-day stuff and daily stuff I’m doing.” It’s just — I didn’t want to go back in the studio that quick. I felt like I needed to be inspired.”

‘I talked to Swizz, and we went through joints. And No I.D. and Timbaland, you know. This the only interview I’ma talk about it. Cause I know once this comes out, people might ask me about the record and, man, I just want to finish it and get it done.”

  1. Hussle says:

Nas & No ID…cant go wrong. That last Swizz track is lukewarm tho. Salaam Remi gon have some dope beats we already know. Can’t wait!

  2. SkillzOnSite says:

Shout out to the upcoming producers that wish they had Nas email. Keep grinding.

  3. Tec1 says:

No I.D & Nas makes classics. I would like to see Alchemist or Havoc produce a joint for Nas

    1. mike says:

Alch is on Gods Son, check it out.

  4. Public Hairs says:

NaS and Swizz do NOT mesh well. AT ALL. “Summer On Smash” was light years better than “Braveheart Party”, but still, they lack true chemistry.

  5. DEΛTH says:

NAS’ LYRICS ARE IMPRESSIVE, POETIC AND IMMEDIATE, BUT HIS LYRICAL ABILITY IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS REALLY APPEALING TO ME IN THE FIRST PLACE ABOUT THIS NIGGA!

NO I.D. IS THE ONLY GOOD CHOICE – THIS NIGGA SHOULD WORK WITH REAL MUSICIANS AND MORE DIVERSE PRODUCERS!

    YOU CAN HATE ME NOW!

  6. Carlos Danger says:

nas that dude a lyrical and give you some insight with substance.

  7. marty mcfly says:

People make it sound like Swizz beatz is Dj Mustard or something. Personally I liked Summer On Smash cause Nas needs to loosen up and sound like he’s every fun when he raps instead of always sounding like he’s delivering a lecture. Swizz got alot of classic records man. Listen to the damn song first at least

    1. marty mcfly says:

Nas needs to loosen up SOMETIMES…. That is

    2. Louiev says:

I agree, Swizz doesn’t get enough credit.

  8. Wallace C says:

I say No to all 3…No ID had some dope joints on Life Is Good, but outside of LocoMotive & Back When the other joints he did in terms of production don’t hold up the same as they did 2 years ago. For Nas fans this isn’t a good sign, sounds like he’s trying make cross-over music again.

    1. marty mcfly says:

I think people put too much weight on Nas beats. Nas aint had dope beats since like 1999 so why are people still looking for him to have dope beats? Nas just aint that guy, Nas is strictly lyrical, there will be no dope beats involved. You would think by now people would just accept that and listen to his music for what it is.

      1. marty mcfly says:

I take that back, Nas has beats that are good sometimes or ok but he aint rapping over no fire like that and thats cause he really dont like beats that have alot going on or that sound more hype then his vocal delivery.

      2. Wallace C says:

The beats are just as important…The MC is the painter & the beat is the Canvas for the painting! It all changed when he started rocking with Salaam alot and stopped working with Premier.

        1. marty mcfly says:

Yeah beats are important… To US but are they important to Nas? I doubt it.

    2. Shiz says:

Nigga did you listen to black bond ??? Or stay ???

  9. Hipster says:

How come Nas never mentions Kendrick’s work, they are similiar in lyrical strength receiving great reception from it, yet Nas isn’t vocal about K.Dots abilities. These dudes could do damage together. Still got major love for both of them. I just kind of wish Nas would acknowledge Kendrick more; unless he’s not impress by him. The impact in Nas’s words are big and Kendrick is kind of a modern day version of him as far as Impact towards this generation. Shout out to Kendrick and Shout out to the legend Nas!

    1. marty mcfly says:

I dont think Nas is impressed by Kendrick

      1. Capuccino says:

yea he aint impressed by kendrick, and he not gonna show love if he aint feelin it and just cus the industry wants him to. he shows love for my boy j cole tho cus he respects his lyrics and his attitude toward the game as well as his appreciation of the art and the music

    2. C-zar says:

I guess you missed that news. Somebody asked Nas about best albums in 2012. He said something like: “No disrespect to anybody in the rap game but man….. Kendrick Lamar – his music gives you hope”. He put Meek’s album in the second spot

  10. Hipster says:

Shout out to Nas For real though. Really Inspires me greatly.

  11. Louiev says:

I wish No I.D. would produce the entire album but I certainly looking forward to it,

  12. realish says:

Nas need some of ross beats. like sum justice league type sht. he shld wrk wit just blaze. too

    1. Uncle Tom says:

      Kill yourself. Smh

  13. StudentOfTheGame says:

i just want that track Timb talked about last year with Nas, Jay and Justin Timberlake.

and sooner this record comes out the sooner he gets to work with Premo on their album

  14. Uncle Tom says:

Nas is one of the last MCs trying to keep to keep hip hops true essence alive. Nas is a living legend.

  15. Uncle Tom says:

Would love to hear DJ premier on his new album

  16. Nas needs to listen to the idea that DJ Premier had & get the ORIGINAL producers (Premo, LargePro, QTip, Pete Rock & maybe throw LES in extra) from Illmatic, LOCK IN & make another cohesive CLASSIC! Life Is Good is CLASSIC by the way & that was with multiple producers, so he’s proven over & over that formula can be mastered. Or I say FUCK IT, just do an ENTIRE ALBUM with Premo! Or an EP or somethin shit! That’s NECESSARY. Just my thoughts. QUEEN$. #TIMELESS
