Now that XXL‘s freshmen class has been enrolled, the magazine gathers Kevin Gates, Vic Mensa, August Alsina, Isaiah Rashad and Chance The Rapper to kick off their cypher. Gates and August would make for an interesting collaboration.

Look, I can see someone saying they don’t like his music. That’s completely fine. Not everyone likes the same stuff; however, to say that he’s mediocre is a stretch. Because then I’d have to ask compared to who? In what context are we talking about? Of all time? Or compared to the people that are making music right now? I like him because he has songs that tell stories that for the most part I can relate to. I at least have a good idea of who he is as a person when I listen to his music. Something, in my opinion, that isn’t done enough today…
