It’s been 14 years since LL Cool J released the G.O.A.T. And now, he’s gearing up for the sequel later this year. In an interview with VIP Saturdays, LL previewed a new track with Troy Ave before discussing the motivation behind the album.

New niggas in the comment section, doing what new niggas do. Talkin ’bout the music like they heard it already smh.
LL shouldn’t have worked with Trash Ave.
WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF IS THIS!
Awwww yeeeaaah, this shit fitting to be DOPEASSFACK. Can’t wait.
LL been the GOAT no question. Always appreciated LL for NOT playing the celebrity game. And he right your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper grew up on this nigga. OGSALUTE.
The G.O.A.T is 50 Cent. If you don’t agree you can chew a dick
WE DON’T AGREE….YOU NEED AN ALL PURPOSE REHAB FACILITY TO GET YOU OFF THE HIGH POWERED MIX OF DRUGS YOUR ON!!!! Seriously go turn on your TiVo/DVR’d episodes of Power & wait for them to show him in jail so you can scream like a banshee when they show his face on the TV screen!!!! His own son doesn’t believe he’s the GOAT!!!! FOH!!!!
LL always supported up coming artists early in their career, from foxy, prodigy, biggie, keith murray, etc etc , he even tried to put canibus on the map
I’m sorry and maybe I’m wrong buti don’t see how he was supporting any of them. Why, because he had songs with them? He was just hitching his star to their Wagon. That’s what they do in hiphop, when ever someone new comes out with a little buzz then others try to geta verse so that they can capitalize on that buzz before it goes cold. Ninjas did it with biggie, 2 chains, t pain, future, drake, and way to many others to name. But when that buzz gets cold ain’t nobody messing with them no more.
I’M NOT SORRY, YOUR DEAD FUCKING WRONG!!!! BASED ON THAT STUPID ASS THEORY LEBRON JAMES WENT BACK TO CLEVELAND BECUASE KYRIE IRVING IS AN ALL STAR WHO WILL HELP HIM GET BETTER NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!! HOW DOES A SUPERSTAR WHOSE ALREADY ACCOMPOLISHED LEGENDARY SHIT HITCH HIS WAGON TO AN UP & COMING ARTIST THAT’S DONE NOTHING??!? PLEASE EXPLAIN THAT?!?!!? LL WAS A MEGASTAR WAY BEFORE BIGGIE, KEITH MURRAY, FOXY, PRODIGY, CANIBUS EVEN HAD RECORD DEALS SO WHAT DID THEY DO FOR HIS CAREER & WHAT DID THEM BEING ON EITHER HIS SONGS OR HIM APPEARING ON THEIR SONGS DO FOR THEIR CAREERS?!
exactly LL helped a ton of new artists from ny, he didn’t have to, he didn’t need keith murray or prodigy on his songs, no one had even heard of foxy till he put her on his album, i can’t understand why someone can’t respect a guy like LL for looking out when he didn’t have to
you sound stupid as shit if you don’t think artists latch on to other artists buzz, who gives a fuck if they are already big you retarded fuck, its about staying relevant and jumping on the next big thing so YOU don’t go cold, you thought you were son’n the other nigga and ended up looking like a stupid bitch
Chuchhh
Lol, calm down LL. Every artist does it. But you are wrong, biggie had an underground buzz. Prodigy already had a classic. Def Jam was promoting the fuck outta foxy plus she was on aint no nigga which was a huge song at the time. And came before who shot ya, Keith Murray already had the ‘most beautifullest’ and plus def squad buzz. LL featured then on a song which was cool but he did so because they had hype. Btw what song was biggie and LL on? I guess I’m forgetting.
By the way, lebron loves Cleveland first and foremost, Iwon’t question that, but do you honestly believe that he would go back to Cleveland if he didn’t see a team with potential? Come on man your playing yourself. Lebron saw an opportunity and jumped on it because Cle is a team that can who the east with him on it Kyrie Irving definitely played a part. That and that#1 pick.
LL didn’t hitch his star to foxy brown no one had even heard of her when he put her on his album, he made her hot, fact, keith murray was not well known when LL put him on, etc etc LL did not have to do songs with those kids they barely had a buzz when he put them on, he looked out, you have to respect it, either way he’s one of the only veteran ny artists to put younger ny artists on his albums, most don’t fuck with each other
Not to dismiss LL’s legendary status but to say he put Keith Murray, Foxy Brown, and Prodigy on is borderline disrespect. If anyone put Keith Murray on it would be Erick Sermon. Jay-z introduced us to Foxy on “Ain’t no” and Prodigy had the Mobb Deep/Nas thing. Not to mention didn’t all these artists have albums and hot singles before they got on that LL track? Just sayin…
Also, the reason he put them on the album was because they were hot in NY at the time. Weren’t MOBB the first ones to reply to west coast cats? On that LA, LA track off C-N-N album? “La la big city of dreams but everything in LA ain’t always what it seems”
LL was the first to put foxy on a track, i shot ya, that came out a year before ain’t no, by then she was already hot because of that LL track, no one had heard about her until she got on that song with LL, facts….keith murray, prodigy, etc no rappers from ny put them on their albums, nas didn’t, neither did anyone else, LL was one of the only veteran ny artists to do songs with younger ny artists from different camps who were on the come up, facts
You’re right about Foxy, for some reason I thought the Jay single came out before. But Keith Murray’s biggest hit EVER came out the year before so you can’t say he wasn’t already buzzin. Same with prodigy, shook ones pt 2 came out the year prior on The Infamous which had features from Nas, Raekwon and Ghost when Wu Tang and Nas ruled the world. If those are major co-signs (outside of BIG I guess) then I don’t know what is (not to mention q-tip and the queens connectipn). Again not disputing LL’s importance to the game but perhaps this single’s power (in terms of boosting said artists’ profiles) was a little overstated. And I think it’s a monster of a single and great shots at Pac and west coast but all of the artists were already hot/got co-sign outside of Foxy. Btw this beat is still one of the all time greats.
No, nobody heard of foxy until ain’t no nigga. Def Jam had foxy plastered everywhere. I’m not saying LL didn’t help cats, but he’s doing the same thing hundreds of rap cats did. Not to mention he was fighting to stay relevant at the time. No disrespect at all to LL, but he was not in his ‘prime’ when that album came out. He wastrying to sell records. Do you really think LL was planning that album and said to himself, im gonna throw foxy a bone? If I was going to give that distinction to anyone. . . Technically buckshot did more for young cats than LL. And maybe even Erick Sermon!
LL did put fox on. I shot ya was made in 94.Foxy Brown is trackmaster cousin a producer. LL listen to her demo. LL told trackmaster to bring her in. He wants to meet her. Trackmaster produce LL Mr.Smith album.
Lol, ninjas be recreating their on classics (ie cnn-the war report 2, reakwon ob4ql 2, redman muddy waters 2, lil wayne the carter series, jay z blueprint series, etc) how the hell is LL gonna come out with goat 2? Lmmfao, not even radio 2, or any other album except phenomena, this is what you choose? Smh
LOL, The GOAT wasn’t his greatest piece of work, why sequel that shit?
Exactly! Not even close!
L, you’re my dude, but HANG IT THE FUCK UP! It’s just time, nobody’s checking for this shit, if he keeps this up, he’s going to have more garbage albums than classics.
Aaaaaand this is how a legacy is ruined…
Most of you cats gotta be teenagers or in your 20s that dont have a clue of what real hip-hop is. LL is a legend matter what. And creating new music dont make him any less of that!! Half of yall not loyal to music anyway or loyal to anything. How many of yall still go to record stores and purchase the artist’s album? Or do yall just burn em? I can’t wait for the GOAT2!!
I’m inclined to agree with you. These kids are young and have no clue about hip hop. LL will still be making music in 10 years when Wheezy and all the other rubbish has fallen off. Nothing changes!

people think LL is ruining his career, wtf are you smoking, he’s relevent in whatever he does, it’s time to show what a emcee looks and sounds like, get ready it’s not going to be pretty for you skirt and dress wearing wannabee emcees, time to take notes, class is about to begin
So tell me why Paul McCartney can still make music at 70….rock stars can make music at 50 60 and 70 yars old s…even Mick Jagger still getting paper!!!….so why cant LL Still Make Record and eat like these white cats ?????….fuck who ever he did and that for….Music is Music is Music….. in Hip Hop if the music sucks folks aint checkin for you. We gotta stop hatin on a cat doing his thing. If you dont like his shit dont listen!!…but if the motherfucka can get concert dates and tours let that man shine and keep making money. At Least the dude can still spit REAL LYRICS…not some candy coated bullshit rhymes.
Do disrespect to anyone with thier opinions in here….but lets keep it funky brothers.
Is LL baiting Jigga? “homeboy a fraud he counterfeit, there’s only 1 G.O.A.T. get off my DICK!!”
