Ryan Leslie hasn’t done too many interviews, but earlier today, he gave an invaluable one with Ebro In The Morning. He discussed his stolen laptop, consulting firm, and monetizing the game. For example, he says he owns 100% of Cassie’s single, “Me & U” and earned $2.5 million from it. Big business, kid.

I’d like to see what he can actually do with an artist that has never had a major label deal or hit record though.
cuz the example he gave is basically a Kickstarter.. while a good idea.. doesnt actually build you as an artist.. cuz if moms just spent 200.00 on some tickets… she isnt gonna do that 2 months from now..
all i know is a indie artist like macklemore is eating.
If there is a % of your sales going to a major label.. you are not indie.. sorry. There are 3000 plus people in a building working a Macklemore record to radio, promo etc… YES he sold 100k+ by himself but indie imo means.. you have zero affiliation and release yourself on tunecore.
Macklemore is also the exception not the rule.
My question was about the disruptive media system. It is a closed ecosystem. You HAVE to pay to play. Ryan Leslie had 2 major label albums that broke 100k (at least). With that large of a casual fanbase converting 10k of that into die hards is awesome but doable if you are willing to put in the work.
For someone with 400 fb likes and 400 twitter followers how does it REALLY translate.

Mac had 2 things in his favor.. Wiz’s success and some start up capital as well.
Rostrum is distributed by Fontana.. which is a different indie distro. But Rostrum has an entire staff.. so Wiz’s deal obviously helped staff the label before Mac Miler got there.
I do not doubt that Ryan can make things happen. I think Big data is crucial to any success. I just want to see something come from the ground up rather than top down to say “ok, this blueprint worked”
