Kendrick Lamar & Jay Rock On ‘SNL’

Touching Fire.

Kendrick Lamar returned as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this evening and brought Jay Rock for their collabo, “Pay For It”. Prior to their performance, a half-braided and black contact-eyed K-Dot recited his current single “i” with a new verse. All praise Black Hippy.

TOO MUCH ACTIN… HE PLAYS BIG SHOWS I GET IT I GET IT, BUT TO ME IT WAS ALOTTA FLUFF.. I RESPECT KENDRICK , BUT I THINK IT WAS TOO MUCH & IT TOOK AWAY FROM THE SONG… IVE SEEN HIM DO THIS SONG WIT LESS DRAMA & IT WAS BETTER.. 1. mindcatalyst says:

      1. bronxbillyunz says:

I SAID I SEEN HIM PERFORM THIS SONG BEFORE MY G.. THAT FLEW OVER UR HEAD – YOUTUBE IT – IT AINT THE 1ST TIME

  20. IKEEPIT100 says:

So many dick riders on this site seeingg shit like” i got lost in the performance” smfh whata fag….this shit was dame shit hes been doing..boring performances..this guys a decent spitter ..but when the rap game is over saturated with shittt rappers..yall make the decent ones look like GODS smh this guy wouldnt of been shit if it was the 90s or 2000s Gimme a break..an let the “old head” hate start…btw im 25 an got more alot more sense about this rap shit then the main majority..I Jus Kept it 100

    1. 305 says:

Kendrick is a God for the new age of rap because their are very few “NEW” rappers doing what he does, face it the nigga dropped one of the best rap albums and out sold damn near every OG rapper that dropped that same year. Kendrick would have been perfectly fine as a MC back in the days because everything the OG rappers stood for he stands for… Lyricism, Aggression, Word play, Metaphors, samples and more. Also the OGs in the game love him, so what are you talking about?

  21. LookingAssNigga says:

Damn CuHz killed it, this nigga is on some other shit.

  22. I HATE THIS SONG AND I CANT SEE WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS WACKASS SONG

    1. 305 says:

You hate the song why, cause it has a positive message and a soulful sample. Would you rather K dot rap about guns he never shot, models he never fucked, drugs he never sold, lean he never drunk? Cause the records that you niggas think are hot is what 95% of the rappers rap about… The sample of this record which is classic record played by are grandparents, fathers, mothers and at the backyard bbq’s that ALONE lets you know the record will still be in rotation 10yrs from know. It’s a great record not a turn up and wave your toy guns in the air record…

      1. not because of the message because the way it sounds

        1. 305 says:

The sound is soulful sample from a legendary song… Keep it real you just looking for something to hate on, are you prefer the new age turn up records produced by Mike Will and Mustard? How can a record that sounds so soulful with a live band not appeal to your ears, i’m missing your point. Don’t get me wrong I like turn up records too, but a record with a soulful sample and dope message is what hip-hop is about…

          1. quick question did i ask for you opinion

          2. 305 says:

Ha sucka I knew you would type some kid shit like that… Nigga to embarrassed to admit he was just hating… It’s ok homie we all got a lil hate in us… “quick question did i ask for you opinion” is the legendary response for i’m hating just let me hate… LOL this is Hip-Hop we all have opinions, and your opinion is you don’t like the song because it sounds soulful? & My opinion is you just looking to hate.

          3. wow you have waaaaaaay to much free time on your hands

          4. 305 says:

Nah just love Hip-Hop and know how to engage in topics like Hip-Hop.

          5. you like it i dont not everything you hear your going to like thats just being real

          6. marty mcfly says:

Yeah but sometimes people just don’t like a song. It’s not always hating. I don’t like the song and its not because of the message or the sample, its because I dont like the beat or the voice effects or the overall sound of the song period. There is no hating involved, some people simply do not like the song.

          7. Starpoint feat Renee Diggs says:

            Right On Bro.

        2. cmonhomiewemajor says:

you probably hate melody..you one of them bars-on-bars rappitrap papoose fans

          1. marty mcfly says:

I think people try to downgrade bars now as if having dope lines aint cool only because the most hyped new rappers don’t have many dope lines. You can still have bars regardless of the melody or style of music.

          2. cmonhomiewemajor says:

don’t get me wrong..bars are necessary, but every song? nah fuck that…the greatest hiphop artists of all time made sure they had balance in everything…melody is necessary just as much as bars

hiphop started with melody, not bars

          3. marty mcfly says:

but once its gets to a point where whole songs don’t have any dope bars then melody can’t be an excuse. Its not 1977 anymore either so regardless where Hip Hop started, it has evolved passed just melody.

          4. cmonhomiewemajor says:

everything has a time and a place

          5. marty mcfly says:

and for MCs who are supposed to be held in regard for their bars. First singles are that time and place.

          6. cmonhomiewemajor says:

dj premier just said that an MC is somebody who has bars AND/OR can control a crowd and make a fun performance

so yes, young thugs an emcee, im sorry that hurts you

          7. marty mcfly says:

You can pretend that when I say “bars” that I mean it in the context of Young Thug? But you know damn well thats not what I mean. Dj Premier can think Brittany Spears is an MC cause she can control a crowd but when I say “bars” thats not what I mean and you and Dj Premier both know that…

          8. cmonhomiewemajor says:

you can live your sad life and think hiphops dying bruh and stress over things like that

its strong as fuck right now

          9. marty mcfly says:

I didnt say Hip hop is dying? You just did. The reason Hip Hop is strong is because of the niggas in it with bars, not Young Thug and some of these niggas who are supposed to have bars are really just rapping at the speed of light so you don’t really notice they lines is basic and non specific while they ramble shit and hide behind the melody.

          10. marty mcfly says:

The point is people make excuses for not having bars because they don’t have them bottomline. Melody is not an excuse for not having bars and just because you could say a Iggy Azlaea is an MC cause she can make a crowd but they hands up? Thats not an excuse for not having dope lines.

          11. not a fan of the sound the message is cool its just the way it sounds that it

  23. El Fenomeno says:

‘i’ like this song more because of this performance. we need this in MP3

    1. baby of stan says:

      No accent thats why!

  24. Marley71 says:

What I like most about this is the brotherhood of the TDE camp. Jay Rock was the original soldier, and for Kendrick to give him so much, deserved shine, on this is beautiful. And the song works, the song rocks, I need to hear what they are saying exactly, but musically it builds and delivers.

  25. Thirtyyearoldmillionaire says:

That was amazing – his like an old soul 60s blues guitar player – fucking well done mate !

  26. EarlNigga says:

Kendrick is the man I first I didn’t get what he doing until i get ODB reference and Method man. King Kendrick

  27. Donn says:

I love the energy and I love the songs but let’s be honest none of those ppl watching at home knew one word of what Kendrick was saying. I get it. Lyrics are everything but bro, the music on top of u rapping as fast and loud as u can I can’t understand one word. But great performance tho. Would have liked to hear the words.

    1. Megamind says:

And you think they understand with Eminem say?? Real talk in today’s era, there’s not to many DOPE audible rappers….meaning ones you actually want to hear from…Jay, Nas, Drizzy, Ross, Common…you catch my drift.
I’m one of TI biggest fans…but you think “America” knows what he’s spitting most of the time…we do bc we’re fans.

Kendrick KILLED this shit!!! MURDER…and as an old head myself…as soon as I saw the half braid and black-out contacts…i thought Ticallion Stallion

      Megamind

    2. FREE MAX B says:

if you dont understand it the first time you go back and listen to it again, thats how its always been. that or get on rapgenius.

  28. diggz says:

Love the fact that he payed homage to Method Man. New cats probably didn’t even get it, which makes it even better. Tical a CLASSIC hip hop cd that no one could hate on.

  29. VJay213 says:

Amazing. Hip hop. A message. Performance. Respect to pioneers. Goosebumps.

  30. Joshua says:

this has nothing to do with this post…but when Rap Radar gonna talk about that new J.Cole album

  31. TrickTricktheMayor says:

method man 20 year anniversary tical album tribute was nice

  32. tipp0183 says:

too animated for me in this one. Kendrick is dope but this ‘I’ song isn’t.

  33. tipp0183 says:

    Jay Rock slaughtered this verse

  34. Forbidden Fruit says:

Saw K.dot sweating before the performance even started and thought he was about to OD! Forgot to fix his hair and everything…

Then I realized the ODB thing. That was a close one.
