D.R.A.M. On “Cha Cha” Jack; Drake Explains

Stick Up.

Although Drake is on pace to his first solo number one thanks to “Hotline Bling”, not everyone is eager to spread the love. D.R.A.M, who rose to prominence this spring with “Cha Cha”, accused Drizzy of biting his track. To the untrained ear, both songs have a similar soundscape. Following a show in Toronto nonetheless, D.R.A.M. broke his silence on the matter via Twitter.

Just performed in Toronto for the 1st time tonight and it was bittersweet. Sweet cus I’m out here sharing my music, my sound with the people..Bitter though, cus after my performance all I’m seeing is Cha Cha/Hotline Bling comparisons on my timeline. Niggas want to know how I feel about that…Yeah, I feel I got jacked for my record…But I’m GOOD. I’m happy that the VA sound that me & @GabeNiles are steady working on is growing. And in 2016 we gon’ own it, GAHDAMN!

In other D.R.A.M. news, the Virgina rookie released “Caretaker” with SZA in support of his mixtape GAHDAMN! dropping October 23.

UPDATE: In this excerpt from his Fader story, Drake explains the comparisons of the two.

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”

  8. Joni says:

A dram you should’ve said this when the song came out not when it’s about to be number 1 in the country now 👎🏻

  9. Joni says:

All we need now is for Sean Paul to say he jacked my video concept from “I’m still in love ” 😂😂😂

  10. MassConglom says:

He took your song because he’s doing the Cha Cha in his video…smh? Pretty sure The Super Mario Brothers feel they got jacked too.

  11. Sonic says:

Who? This talentless scrub gives a bad name to Drake, the 6 God. “Hotline Bling” is an amazing rap song, everything Drake drops is a masterpiece. All I can say is that I’ve listened to it a million times and it’s still my favorite song.

  17. BlactrickSwayze says:

unless this nigga paid royalties to nintendo for jacking super mario he can stfu

  18. thedeamkid19 says:

of course drake didnt invented the singing flows, the thing is a lot of people discoverd singing thru drake and actually he is not even a good singer compared to the real ones

  19. DoughboyToad says:

  24. Belize says:

That singsong dope till I heard his struggle voice tryna sound like Luther badross

  25. @_illuminegro_ says:

I swear yall be letting this nigga drake get away with murder. This nigga is WELL KNOWN for stealing lyrics from other artists. Having a ghost writer. Didn’t grow up in the hood or didnt have to struggle for shit but tries to impersonate a thug. Was on tv since he was 13. Sings. And steals songs. I swear if this was the 90s he wouldn’t still be here bro. Im not hating on the man but damn yall drake stans be in denial like a bitch. (Side note) that hotline bling video is lame cuz this nigga just tried to blend like 4 different latino dances an just made it look gay cuh

    1. T says:

Well known? This is how wack ass rumors start? What songs is Drake Well Known for stealing?

      1. @_illuminegro_ says:

Well without even including the cha cha record. You have the hood from the diamonds dancing song. The wu tang forever record(which is why they didn’t want to do a remix). The hyfr record. The shit he did with aalyah. And like 2 clipse songs (which is why him and pusha t went at it). The mans got a history of this shit bru. Nobody ever says anything bout it cuz niggas made drake out to be the golden child of hip hop or some shit

        1. T says:

Stop reaching the WU tribute, wasn’t a record Hip-Hop heads didn’t want a remix to because the track lacked energy, it wasn’t stolen, The “U Kno” by ABRA sounds nothing like “Diamonds Dancing”… Which Clips songs did Drake steal? Where was “hyfr” stole from? LOL… I feel like Hov is right when you reach the top niggas start reaching… & Drake’s Aaliyah record wasn’t stole; it was a fucking tribute, just like when Chris Brown payed tribute to Aaliyah with “Don’t Think They Know”

          1. Slim Jesus GOD Mc says:

He clearly stole rappin 4 tay whole verse on “who do you love” Not to mention this song oh and he still has ghost writers. Drake is clearly not capable of writing his own lyrics or forming his own songs. He’s the biggest fruad in the game besides for Ross

        2. cmonhomiewemajor says:

whoa whoa don’t get it twisted

Pusha said he showed love to Drake for taking those Clipse records

the reason they started beefing is because Drake became shady and refused to work with Push and said some insulting shit about him and kanye when he signed with GOOD because Drake was signed to Wayne

      2. Marko V says:

I think he’s referring to how he takes popular songs adds a verse then extends his run off another person’s work. Jay Z was the king of that

        1. aikens todd says:

Jay will say a line. Drake uses the whole verse big difference.

          1. Marko V says:

I’m referring to how Jay remixes songs he deems worthy. Like Ha from Juvie or how he tried to hop on Cam song Oh Boy. In between albums Jay perfected that piggy back scheme to extend his term of being the “hot” rapper. Jus like what Drake does now.

          2. aikens todd says:

I’m sorry to say but I’m not a Drake fan so I wouldn’t know what songs he’s hopping on thats so called hot nowadays. I was referring to him taking another rappers verse and putting it in his song that shit is crazy. Question: Was the verse that jay put on Ha wack? I’ll answer that for you HELL NO!! Name another popular rapper that he just put a verse on their song without them knowing the only one I can think of is Kendrick and Cam wasn’t all that popular at the time he got hot once he got on the Roc before that he was local only poppin in NY. I’m from NY and not a youngin.

          3. Marko V says:

Oh I’m definitely not a Drake fan either I just acknowledge patterns in Hip Hop. He hopped on Migos and Makkonen and Fetty Wap too so that’s just a chess move he uses that he probably got Jay-Z. Cuz Jay Knocked Kiss off that Mya remix and let’s not forget how he completely jacked Young Chris style of rapping. So it’s just what gets done. I don’t condone it and all but it’s a strategy. Can’t hate it if it’s worked. And side note I’m from St.Louis and u mean to tell me Cam and the Dips wasn’t running Harlem and all of New York when they was on the Roc dropping them mixtapes even before Oh Boy? Dang

          4. aikens todd says:

Migos, Makkonen and Fetty Wap!!…….. All fuckin sanitation garbage. How do you know Jay was the one who knocked Kiss off of that remix he didn’t have the power to make executive decision’s at a label he wasn’t signed to at that time. He was just more popular thus the executive decisions was made. As far as that he jacked Chris style is bogus listen to R.D his style didn’t change much after Beans and the rest of the phillie crew came aboard the Roc and those tapes you were talking about that got Dipset hot came after he was on the Roc. I knew about them because my fam is from Harlem and Juelz lived right down the block. The general public didn’t know who Juelz was before Oh boy. Try again my dude your accuracy is way off.

          5. "R°£" says:

He stole some kiss shit! That R-Kelly fiesta jawn and that mya song

          6. aikens todd says:

Here we go with the bullshit rumors what did he steal from Kiss? Didn’t R. Kelly and Jay make an album together? So him jumping on Fiesta was the start of their relationship and Mya was a artist that worked with the Trackmasters who Jay had a relationship with. Yall niggas hate for no reason and have no idea what yall are talking about. LOL

      3. ONLY FACTS says:

BRUH STOLE KIRKO BANGZ WHOLE STYLE.

LISTEN TO COMEBACK SEASON AND ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.

HE RAPPITY RAPPIN LIKE NICKLAUS F AND CLIPSE (VIRGINIA INFLUENCE… NOT TO MENTION THE TREY SONGZ LINK).

THEN BRUH WENT TO THE H, LINKED WITH J.PRINCE N EM…
and SWAGGJACKED THE FUK OUTTA LIL KIRKO.

DROPPED SO FAR GONE ON THAT SLOWED DOWN H-TINE SINGING MELODIC RAP..LATE NIGHT RIDING MUSIC SHYT AND TOOK OFF…

NIGGAZ BEEN KNOWN DIS SINCE 2010… AND SAUCE WALKA JUS EXPOSED HIM EVEN MORE BASICALLY SAYIN THE SAME SHYT WE WAS ALREADY SHARP TO…

DRAKE BEEN KILLIN THE MUSIC GAME BUT ITS DEFINITELY A LOT OF FLAGS ON DA PLAY IN HIS CAREER… YA HEA ME…

HE NOT CREDIBLE FRFR BUT HEY, ITS “JUST ENTERTAINMENT”

    2. D Jants says:

I agree. There’s plenty of reference tracks by Quinton Miller that proves Drake lacks original material. The Weeknd gave up half of his first album for Take Care… Which explains the change in sound from the first album to the second album to the third album. He has a Houston Astros tattoo and has been seen on stage doing a known Houston rapper’s dance while calling it his own dance. He’s steals culture, pretends to be hard… But in the end he fake. Kendrick murked that nigga at the hip hop awards. Wale said it best, Drake could say he’s going to the bathroom to pee on a record and the masses would go crazy. He’s a swagger jacker, overrated lyricist, but he has more money and bitches than me so my opinion on real hip hop culture don’t matter. Stay woke.

      1. @_illuminegro_ says:

Thats all I’ve been saying in a nutshell bro. Dude a low key culture vulture

  26. Jazz June says:

Lets be honest it was called cha cha remix when it first came out. No matter how different the shit sounds.

    1. T says:

Don’t say “No matter how different the shit sounds”, that’s what the whole debate is about….

  27. Jazz June says:

yeah drake may have not directly took D.R.A.M’s song but he most likely wouldve never even made Hotline Bling if Cha Cha never dropped. The flow is basically the same along with the style of the beat so i would be mad if I was DRAM too

  28. thedxn says:

    you nxggas is reaching

  29. RickyUnos says:

    i don’t hear the resembelance..–RickyUnos

  30. Marko V says:

Drake is a machine now. He’s in that Hov lane completely untouchable. Yes he has a team of writers. Yes he hops on bubbling songs and adds a verse that makes radio wanna play the remix only. Yes he took DRAM Beat and has a new hit. Lol this dude isn’t rewriting the rules he’s playing the game to win and let’s all just acknowledge it and accept it. A true fan would support another artist u think should be winning and hit the artist on Facebook Twitter and Instagram repeatedly with strategy on how to reach more people. Flat out.

  31. Belize says:

Very good comparison. Only in hiphop niggas act like divas and shyt on some “I had that man first”. These rap niggas nowadays need Prozac and some testosterone

  32. @SkiYewNiverCity says:

Nigga Please! Caretaker…. Take Care… lmao

  33. Ricky says:

I can’t believe you guys actually bite into this. Like the similarities are bareeeeeeely there. This record does not give you the same vibe as Hotline Bling at all.

  34. Gusto0810 says:

I’ve listened to both songs and they kind of have the same vibe but they are definitely different musically. The issue as I see it is that when Drake dropped Hotline Bling it was titled ‘Hotline Bling (Cha Cha Remix)’. That lead me to believe D.R.A.M might have been on the track, but he wasn’t. So Drake was really just capitalising on D.R.A.M’s hit song to further solidify and build on his own momentum. I recall seeing it still titled ‘Hotline Bling (Cha Cha Remix)’ on Soundcloud not that long ago, although now the song appears to have been removed from Soundcloud.

  35. jaja420 says:

How the fuck did he jack it when he called it a Cha Cha Remix when he released the song?

  36. diggz says:

He made it a hot line, drake made it a hot song. Come on now with this. This sounds nothing iike hotline bling.

  37. THE REAL mac DIESEL says:

    ^

    Translation: Fuck that nigga.

SIDEBAR: BUT WE AIN’T IN JAMAICA THO!!!! HA!!!! WE SEE YOU AUBREY!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

    1. diggz says:

SIDEBAR WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? JESUS YOU ARE FUCKING DUMB

  38. leetocold says:

niggas been using each others beats in the rap game forever. Lil Wayne has done it multiple times. Wassup with these new niggas and why they think it all comes so easy????
