Lil Nas X “Old Town Road” Becomes Billboards Longest No. 1 Single Ever

Horse to the top

Other than no. 1, not even the other spots on the Billboard 100 can tell him nothing. For its 17th week in a row, Lil Nas X’ hit “Old Town Road” reigns supreme, making it the longest-running no. 1 single in Billboar’s 64-year history.

The previous record holders, at 16, were held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” back in 1995 and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber in 2017.

Lil Nas X’ country-rap phenomenon began initially as a viral dance on the TikTok app. In March, Billboard announced the song was ineligible for the country charts. It soon led to country legend Billy Ray Cyrus hopping on the remix. After dominating the charts ever since, the 20 year-old rapper from Atlanta released his 7 EP in June. Most recently, X released another remix featuring Young Thug and Mason Ramsey. Congrats, partner.
