BET Awards 2020 Performances & Winners

Black stays winning.

On Sunday night (June 28), BET aired their 20th annual BET Awards and celebrated the network’s 40th anniversary.

In the midst of the current events, the annual ceremony promoted the Black Lives Movement throughout the evening and it was held virtually due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Hosted by comedian, actress, and television personality, Amanda Seales, the show kicked off with Public Enemy, Nas, and Black Thought for an epic performance of “Fight The Power”. Megan Thee Stallion brought the BLM movement to the Las Vegas desert with her Mad Max-theme performance of “Girls In The Hood” and her “Savage (Remix)”.

Pulling up in a Ferrari, Roddy Ricch brought “High Fashion” to his set and segued into his hit single,”The Box” in a backdrop of his city and a series of Zoom chats. Roddy also joined DaBaby for their hit “Rockstar” during a tense showdown with police. Anderson .Paak and Jay Rock brought their aftermath of a tense showdown with police for their performance of”Lockdown”. D Smoke and SiR represented for Inglewood with their live rendition of “Let Go” and “Black Habits”.

Coming off their recent Verzuz battle, Alicia Keys recited her heartfelt single, “A Perfect Way To Die” in the deserted streets, while John Legend stroked his keys inside an abandoned warehouse for latest single, “Never Break”.

Lil Wayne paid tribute to the late NBA star Kobe Bryant with a performance of his his 2009 track “Kobe Bryant”, and Summer Walker and Usher brought summer love with a medley of “Session 32” and “Come Thru”.

Elsewhere, Chloe x Halle dazzled in dual screens with their performance of “Forgive Me” and “Do It”. Jennifer Hudson brought Black Excellence with magnificent rendition of “Black, Gifted & Black” and Masego saluted Black women with his performance of “Queen Tingz”.

A few winners throughout the evening gave their speeches virtually including Roddy Ricch who won Album Of The Year with Please Excuse For Being AntiSocial and Megan Thee Stallion, who was up for five nods, was honored both Best Female Hip Hop Artist and the Viewers Choice Award for “Hot Girl Summer”.

Other winners throughout the evening included Lizzo (Best Female R&B/Pop Artist), Chris Brown (Best Male R&B/Pop Artist), Migos (Best Group), DaBaby (Best Male Hip Hop Artist), Roddy Ricch (Best New Artist), Burna Boy (Best International Act) and many more.

Beyonce was honored the Humanitarian Award by former First Lady Michelle Obama, for her philanthropic efforts from her BeyGOOD foundation.
