H.E.R. “Fight For You” Wins Oscar Award
Flawless victory.
H.E.R. earned her first Oscar Award with “Fight For You” taking Best Original Song during the 93rd annual Academy Awards.
The prestige film award ceremony was held virtually and took place on Sunday (April 25) at Los Angeles’ Union Station and Dolby Theatre.
After performing the song during the pre-show, Gabriella Wilson accepted her award alongside producer Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and co-writer Tiara Thomas. “I am so, so, so grateful, not only to win but to be a part of such an important, important story,” H.E.R. said during her acceptance speech. She continued, “Thank you to the Academy—I’ve always wanted to say that! I have to thank God for giving us these gifts. And my parents, my beautiful mother who’s here with me today and my father at home, all those days of listening to Sly & the Family Stone and Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye really paid off, so thank you dad”.
“Fight For You” is off the soundtrack to the film, Judas And The Messiah. Earlier in the evening, Daniel Kaluuya won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal as Fred Hampton in the film, which he was nominated with his co-star LaKeith Stanfield, who played William O’Neal.
H.E.R is now just an Emmy and Tony Award away from an EGOT recognition. In March, H.E.R. won two Grammys including Song Of The Year for “I Can’t Breathe”) and Best R&B Song with “Better Than I Imagined”.
